The new Fleet Foxes album, scheduled to release 3-May, has officially leaked to the internet. Aside from every song I’ve heard so far being really awesome, the band (or at least frontman Robin Pecknold) has taken an interesting approach to their music being illicitly shared throughout the blogging world. Via @fleetfoxes twitter:
I’m glad it leaked, but kinda bummed because I wanted the winner of the Japan auction to hear it first. Seems less valuable now. Hrm.
I think at this point its becoming more than simply progressive for artists to accept the uncontrollable spread of their music through the cultural outlets of social networks, blogs, and other online resources. The relationship between culture and the internet isn’t going back to the way it used to be, regardless of how we as a society perceive it. Might as well accept the way it is. Or better yet, learn how to use it to your advantage.
Anyway, listen to some of the new songs on Hype Machine.
