Lesson 7: Demons

By: Admin Vorst

Live class date and time: To Be Determined

Demonologist, demonolator and Satanists.

Demonologist study demons.

Demonolators study demons and worship them as divine beings.

Satanists adhere to Satan and or may not include demons in their religion or practice.

These terms can overlap, but don’t need to.

With this I’d like to quickly introduce myself. Hi, I’m Vorst and I’m both a Satanist and a demonolator, though Satan is my God, above everyone else. I’m also oath-bound to Him, which means I’ve promised to worship Him my entire life.

With this a warning: don’t make oaths for the fun of it. Changing your mind can happen, and in experience: neither gods nor demons will take kindly to oath-breakers.

Where does the word ‘demon’ come from?

The word comes from the Ancient Greek word 'δαιμον’, which the Romans also wrote as 'daemon’ later on in their own literature.

The meaning of the word 'daemon’ is: a spirit between gods and Man. You can see that the Greeks nor the Romans ever saw daemons as malicious spirits.

That changed with the rise of Christianity and Abrahamic religions in general. In contrary to Roman tactics, some of the now newly conquered Christian countries slowly began to forbid and shun any worship of gods and spirits outside of their own pantheon.

To the eyes of the Christian in these places, foreign beliefs were seen to be evil, corrupt and disfigured. Their gods being viewed as evil beings, out there to ruin people’s lives. They were to be portrayed as such that no one would ever want to associate themselves with these deities, and so previously normal words to describe certain entities had now gotten a sinister meaning.

That is the reason why people in modern times have taken it upon themselves to use 'daemon’ again instead of 'demon’, to distinguish themselves from the people who see them as solely malicious.

What are demons?

In modern shows and TV-series most hold on to their favourite stereotypes: terrifying evil creatures constantly possessing humans. In the more obscure films and media forms, they’re starting to slowly get to the truth of demons, usually portraying their wit and intelligence. This is most likely due to Christianity becoming less influential - and the fact that controversy is a great hit in everything.

Darker parts of the human self. Our darker emotions, such as fear, anger and sadness are seen as our personal demons. But also addiction, violent behaviour and sexual acts, as demons themselves are often associated with exactly these. These inner demons, as they are called, are obviously not the demons I will be discussing.

In reality, the entities known as demons are spirits and/or gods from ancient times. Most of the time, however, there is a line between when an entity is considered a demon, and when a god. Satan, per example, is referred to being both “the God of this world” and the king of demons. Some say he is not a demon, and some say he’s a demon but not the leader.

Another example of this is Astarte. Both seen as the female counterpart of the demon Astaroth, but she is also known as the Middle Eastern goddess Ishtar, worshipped from the Bronze Age in the ancient Levant among the Canaanites and Phoenicians.

Another example being Beelzebub, the Lord of Flies, as Biblical scholar Thomas Kelly Cheyne suggested that it might be a corruption of the name Ba‘al Zəbûl, “Lord of the High Place” (i.e., Heaven) or “High Lord” - a god previously worshipped.

The line between whether demons are gods or spirits is fairly vague. It is also worth noting that some have mentioned that some, like Astarte, might take offence to being referred to as a demon, so do be aware when contacting them and ask them what they want to be referred to as.

Possession.

When people do feel like they’re possessed it’s usually either that they’re not well in touch with their inner selves, or that they’re influenced by negative energy of maybe a spirit. Though it is far more often the first scenario that’s causing the sensation. Of course, this excludes people with mental issues, who I advice to seek professional help in these cases. Also, therapists can help too.

Are demons evil?

Demons are as equally evil as gods are, as demonolators see them as divine beings. We all know gods of war, and yet they were worshipped. We know of gods who have murdered, assaulted and committed various human crimes and were and/or are still worshipped. There are various reasons for this, one being that gods can never be wrong, as they are not bound by human rules and transcend human morality. This, however, is more of a philosophical idea so I will not elaborate on that now.

Because demons are often portrayed as having characteristics similar to humans, one could never fully call a demon solely evil, nor could they ever be solely good.

This will probably make you wonder:

Is it reasonable to fear demons?

Absolutely. Whereas not per se evil, all are capable of acting hostile - this being their one trait everyone agrees on.

Demons are ancient and powerful entities that often care not for human problems. They often view humans as either acceptable or downright worthless to them.

And why would they in any other way?

In most religious practices, a god grants a human their prayer to come true when the human has presented themselves favourable to said god.

In the case of demons? They require no worship. Some gods don’t need worship either, but in the case of demons they appear completely separate from humanity. Despite that, as demons are closer to the raw core of human emotions than the general god would be, demons feed on the strongest of feelings: sadness, anger, fear, love and happiness. Demons are seen as spiritual predators in this regard.

As they require nor seem to desire an active response from humans, they are not inclined to mix themselves with mortals.

This does not mean a demon will never be genuinely kind. They will be. But do note that demons are skilled tricksters in getting what they want through fake promises and sweet lies.

When assured a demon expresses interest, kindness and acceptance a mutual agreement can be agreed on.

Banishing a demon?

So before I go into working with them, I’ll discuss how to get rid of them. First of all: ask them to leave. Be polite. Maybe they’re just simply approaching you.

If that does not work, try salt or spells to make others distance yourself from you.

You could also try and evoke another authority figure, like your god, to protect you.

Don’t engage them in a fight. Antagonized demons are the last you would want.

Working with demons?

Demons are wise teachers and are willing to share their secrets when either politely asked or forced to do so.

Either way seems to work fine, and have different names as well.

Evoking a demon is the act of forcefully conjuring a demon in your space, as in shown and described in the book of the Lesser Key of Solomon.

Invoking a demon is the act of inviting a demon in your space. You leave it up to the demon whether or not they show up.

The latter is obviously far more polite; modern demonolators prefer that one and I will be discussing that one the most.

Invocation differs from person to person. But, I will now state the general idea of doing this safely.

Always go for an invocation and never an evocation. This is personal advice. Demons will not be pleased if you force them. When casting a circle, during invocation the demon will be inside the circle together with you, with positive energy.

During evocation, the demon will be trapped inside the circle, the person outside looking in. Honestly, it’s terrible to start an acquaintanceship like that.

In order to prevent antagonizing the demon, be polite and go for an invocation. An invocation can be as difficult as you want it to be, in its simplest form it can even be as small as a prayer.

In my case, I cleanse my room, surround myself with a mental barrier (or through a smell I associate with Satan) where I invite the demon in. Then I draw a general summoning circle in the air. This can be done with a ritual knife, athame, wand or you hands. When using a sharp object do remember not to stab it in the air as if it’s an attack.

We don’t tend to attempt to knife our guests.

Afterward, or during, I say the Enn for the specific demon I wish to invoke.

Enns are short sentences in an unknown language, claimed to be demonic, of invitation, admiration or requests of protections. There are various theories on how they were found. The first demonolator who wrote them down was Alexander Willit in the 16th century. Later, other demonolators used them in their practice too. We know it is a language, with grammar, but we do not know the grammar itself yet. We do know the meaning of some sentences. Because we know little, we also do not know how to correctly pronounce these enns. Say it how you want.

Some examples of this language and their translation: “Ganic Tasa Fubin Flereous” could be translated as Fire protect the flame, Lord Flereous, per example. Another example is the enn for Barbatos, which is: “Eveta fubin Barabatos”.

After that, I go and meditate until I feel a presence. When I do, I politely try to communicate with the demon, mentally or verbally. There are various ways a demon can show itself depending on your spiritual state. Experienced demonolators reported manifestations so strong they initially thought someone had broken into their house.

When done, I thank the demon and end the invocation. This can be as simple as saying goodbye and as complex as an entire ritual. Do what you feel works best.

Ardyn Headcanons

Part of my ongoing Ardyn fic. I posted the first bit a WHILE back, and will be updating it soon(ish).

  • Ardyn rarely sleeps. Being immortal, he doesn’t need to, and when he does he ALWAYS has a recurring nightmare about a liquid darkness entering and consuming him (he wakes knowing that’s what actually awaits him if he ever loses control, except it will happen from within).
  • The daemons are like a personality disorder. They manifest as impulses and voices in his head, which he can barely distinguish from his own. Over the years he’s managed to quiet them and differentiate, but it’s still a daily struggle. He tries and keeps his emotions in check to prevent them from surfacing.
  • He likes a high shelf brandy. It’s classic.
  • Ardyn has always had a bit of a sweet tooth. People are surprised to discover this; he doesn’t seem the type. Yet as a child and adolescent, the palace kitchen staff were well familiar with and supplied his penchant.
  • He hasn’t felt at home anywhere in Eos since before being exiled. He roams constantly, and knows almost every inch of the world. The only places he feels remotely at home at are the ruins scattered across Eos— the ones that no one can explain, the history long forgotten. These ruins are from before even his time, and he enjoys that there is still something he hasn’t experienced.
  • Aside from a spare change of clothes, some odd souvenirs, and his car, he doesn’t own anything.
  • He doesn’t have a cellphone, and it’s a running joke in Niflheim that the Chancellor is “old-school.” He’s impossible to get in touch with, but he always seems to be in the right place at the right time despite this, so Aldercap and the others leave him be.
  • Ardyn feels an intense loneliness if he allows himself to feel. Not only does he keep to himself, having little in common with anyone and feeling everyone to be inferior, but people are wary of him. He is used to being ignored and shunned, but it’s only made him bitter over the years. Sometimes he finds himself trying to attempt normal interaction, but it rarely goes well. People seem to sense something’s off with him, and this only makes him feel more corrupted / desperate for his end game to come to fruition.
  • Ardyn is tired. Not physically tired, but in his soul. If he isn’t occupied, it strikes him. He has seen and done just about everything over the eons, and no matter how the landscape changes due to natural or human influence, he can feel the familiarity of places in his bones. He is tired of Eos and craves release. He would never admit this, and it’s much easier to pretend that revenge against the Lucis Caelums is the sole reason behind his actions. He’s angry at the gods and Lucians for what was done to him in the past, but mostly he’s angry that he’s had to remain alive for so long— friendless, his soul corrupted, and with the daemons his only true ever-present companions.
  • After his failed execution, Ardyn was placed in the stone tomb on Angelgard by the gods. The imprisonment was three-fold: One, Angelgard is an island, and at that time, his daemonic powers were not known to him / undeveloped (so escape that way was a no-go). Two, the swords / stakes surrounding the tomb were once magically-imbued to keep him from escaping. And three, the narrow window is aligned with the opening in the crag behind the tomb, allowing sunlight to directly enter the tomb and weaken Ardyn due to the daemons in his body (over the years he grew used to the light, but for a long, long time, it pained him, and only darkness brought relief— which is why he grew to resent the light). We don’t hear much of Ardyn through history after his own time period because he was imprisoned. It wasn’t until rather recently that the magic was lost and he could escape. This would also explain how his speech is still fairly archaic.
  • When Ardyn first escaped his prison and “re-introduced” himself to modern society, the idea of having a paid job was abhorrent. He stole and shoplifted to get everything he needed (he did this for years). In his mind, everything was stolen from him, and his own needs outweigh anyone else’s.
  • Ardyn keeps the full extent of his power hidden from everyone. Why? For one, because the more he uses them, the more the daemons have control. Two, because having his powers known would complicate his place in the Empire, and thus his plans. He could easily achieve his goals by being 100% evil and killing everyone until Noct makes his covenants and enters the Crystal, but he isn’t SURE that Noct is chosen until he actually gets pulled into the Crystal.
  • Ardyn does (or did) feel some small shred of pity for Noctis because he’s essentially just a kid who gets screwed by fate as much as Ardyn did, but his resentment over Noct being chosen and able to Ascend (as well as Noct’s bloodline) vastly overwhelms his pity.
  • He gets his clothes custom tailored because he doesn’t like the current fashion trends (and doesn’t feel he needs to adhere to them); because it makes him feel important; and because it reminds him of a time when he had this privilege.
  • His humor and  charm took a while to redevelop (post-imprisonment). At first he was highly self-deprecating, but no one understood his plight or jokes. It wasn’t until he began to try to seem friendly and good-natured that people began to warm up to him and he realized this made it easier to get what he wanted. However, in recent years he’s allowed his contempt to poison the facade and now his “charm” just seems creepy.

Tiny chapter, but mostly something to get the plot advanced. Still hope you enjoy, as always tagging the soulmate AU buddies @blindbae and @nifwrites

For the first couple weeks at HQ Cam went on as many hunts as she could handle, and as many as Greyson’s time permitted. A routine developed; up at eight, an Ebony to go, handful of hunt flyers stuffed under her arm and ammo clips stacked in her pack at the ready. They’d plan a route based on the locations and do a circle around, one after the other, snapping pictures of their slain and dog-earring the hunts they’d completed. Cam’s cellphone gallery became a grotesque slideshow of dead daemons, but after so long she treated them as trophies, the more the merrier.

FFXV-2 Ardyn Story

Ardyn Part 1

Ardyn’s journey won’t be solo. His companions could consist of all the guys that potentially betrayed him and were tying him up (as seen in the official Artbook).

I wonder if those black hoods have any connection to the one you find in Pitioss Ruins. Ardyn’s era is after Solheim. But their technology should still be around and reinvented. Just like how Ardyn introduced Magitek Troopers to Niflhiem once he joins them.

  • I based Ardyn’s story mostly on what was available from the timeline released in the Ultimania.

Daemon!The8 | 13 Days of SevenWeen

Word Count: 1950

Genre: Fluff, Angst

It was another usual day in the Underworld. The night sky looked like a whirl pool of red clouds and black stars; very typical of the season. Minghao was going about his usually duty, rowing a black wooden canoe through the murky waters of the Oceanus river.

Minghao was like a personal assistant to the god of the Underworld, Joshua. Though, daemons by nature are never referenced in art or literature, so Minghao scarcely received any credit for his hard work. But that didn’t stop Minghao from trying his hardest every day, he was a loyal employee of Joshua’s, and didn’t mind being in the background. However, that isn’t to say that Minghao never got curious about what life would be like if he were the center of attention. He wanted to know how it would feel for his existence to mean something, instead of just doing mediocre tasks for someone else.

Just as Minghao started to drift out of reality and into his own thoughts, the side of his canoe scraped against the river bank. Hastily rowing back to the center of the river, he pushed through his own boredom, as he was on his way to pick up Joshua and escort him to Mount Olympus.

It wasn’t often that Joshua met with the other gods, but when he had to, Minghao was always his chauffeur. Charon, the gatekeeper of the Underworld, was always the one who got the credit for that job, but as always, Minghao didn’t mind. Charon was the one who knew the rivers of the Underworld best, so Minghao could understand why people made that assumption. But if there was one river Minghao knew like the back of his hand, it was Oceanus.

Oceanus was the river that encircled the Underworld, separating it from the living world. If ever Minghao had a day off, he would aimlessly row down the river and fantasize about the living world. It intrigued him, but he never had the courage to enter it, until that fateful day.

The canoe bumped into the shore once more, and for some reason, it seemed like a cosmic sign to Minghao. He decided that it was finally time to explore the living world.

Abandoning the canoe and its paddle, Minghao took the river bank, starting towards the living world, and not looking back once. The border between the Underworld and the living world was like a warped, clear wall. Souls usually entered through the main gate, so the border wasn’t normally talked about. Minghao was seeing it for the first time. It looked like a window, but on the other side, everything was different. The clouds were white, the sky was blue, the grass was green. Minghao had never seen anything like it.

He took one stride through, and crossed over to the other side. Immediately, his ears were greeted by some kind of ringing sound. It sounded like a high-pitched squeak being repeated over and over again. He turned his head, to see that the sound was coming from a bird in a tree. Though, the bird was a strange red color, at least it was to Minghao, since only ravens and vultures can live in the Underworld.

Studying his surroundings once more, Minghao realized that he must’ve been in some kind of town. But, he’d never seen a town like this before. The buildings were different colors, flowers hung in baskets from the lamp posts, the sun illuminated everything and filled the air with an alien warmth. Minghao strolled around for a bit, admiring the beauty of everything, when all of sudden, he felt something bump into him.

“I’m so sorry.” He heard someone say.

Turning around to face the person he’d collided with, Minghao was immediately mesmerized when he saw your face.

“It’s fine.” He replied.

You sent him a grin, as a response to his acceptance of your apology. Your eyes were sparkling, cheeks plump and full of life. Minghao could only stare in awe.

“Are you okay?” You asked, noticing his blank gaze.

Minghao snapped out of it, to reply with, “Yes. Absolutely. I’m great.”

“That’s good,” You said, “You looked a bit lost there.”

“Actually, I am lost. I don’t know where I am and I don’t have any money.” He stated.

“Oh no. Well, do you know how you got here?” You asked.

“Yeah, I just-” Minghao turned around, to try to show you the border of the Underworld. But, as he saw that the border wasn’t visible, he realized that the only way to the Underworld from the living world is through the main gate. Or, by Joshua’s golden chariot, but no daemon has ever ridden in it.

“You what?” You asked, interrupting Minghao’s thought process.

Minghao scratched the back of his neck, contemplating a way to explain his predicament without confusing you.

“I, uh, I don’t remember. Looks like I’m stuck here now.” He said.

You felt sorry for him. He was lost, confused, broke, and admittedly very cute. You decided that it was the right thing to try and help him.

“What’s your name?” You asked.

“Minghao. And yours?”

“(Y/N).”

“That’s a lovely name.”

“Thank you. So, there’s this really nice cafe down the street, I know this is quite sudden but if you want, I could get you something to eat. I just… Feel bad that you’re all alone here.”

“I’m fine. You really shouldn’t spend anything on me. But, I’d love to see more of this place.”

You happily obliged and began taking Minghao on a quick tour of the town, walking by all the major landmarks and interesting destinations. Along the way, the both of you talked quite a bit. Minghao was very endearing and genuinely fascinated by the town, and by you as it seemed. But, as he told you bits and pieces of his own life story, some of it didn’t seem to add up. Every few details he’d explain would just sound completely out of this world. Although, as the two of you finally sat together in the cafe, he revealed that it was because he truly was from another world.

“You’re what?” You asked in disbelief.

“A daemon.” He answered, chuckling slightly, as he didn’t anticipate such a strong response from you.

“What is that?”

“I’m basically like an assistant to the god of the Underworld. I take him places, tidy his palace, and arrange meetings with his council.”

“No offense, but that seems very mundane for someone living in the most eventful place in the universe.”

“None taken, because it is, but someone has to do it.”

“Well, do you still have time to do other cool stuff?”

“Not really, since I’m always busy. But even if I do have a day off, the Underworld is kind of boring. Sure there are people there who torture lost souls or practice witchcraft, but I’ve never really been in on that excitement.”

“But why? Don’t you want to do some of that?”

“I do, but, daemons aren’t really… What’s the right word for this… Important enough to do any of that stuff. I mostly just do my regular duties and keep to myself.”

“Hmm, well, I think your job sounds very important. Without you, council meetings would never happen, the palace would be a wreck, and no one would be able to get anywhere. You should give yourself more credit.”

Minghao paused for a moment, just smiling at what you said. It was the first time anyone had ever told him that he was important. And he could tell that you meant it too. The both of you became silent, but luckily, a waiter delivered two coffees to the table before the atmosphere became awkward.

“Try it,” You said, taking a sip of your own coffee, “I guarantee they don’t have anything like this in the Underworld.”

Obeying your order, Minghao picked up the drink before sniffing it a bit, then taking a gulp. His eyes widened at the strange, new taste.

“Woah,” He marveled, “This is great.”

“I knew you would like it.”

“You know, (Y/N), everything in the living world is so much nicer. And for the first time, I feel like I have a friend.”

“Aw, well, I’m glad I could be your first. But, your personality is so kind and humble, I’m also kind of shocked.”

Minghao tried not to get flustered. As he felt a blush coming on, he simply let out an airy chuckle. You blushed as well, wondering where the surge of confidence that led you to say that came from.

“(Y/N), I’m really thankful for you, and this whole experience. No matter if I’m stuck here forever or I somehow manage to get back to the Underworld, I’ll never forget today.” He said.

You smiled at his sincerity, feeling touched that he had so much thanks to give you. And as a result, Minghao felt a surge of confidence too, and reached for your hand across the table. You couldn’t tell if it was romantic or platonic, but Minghao was genuinely the sweetest, most enchanting person you’d ever met, either outcome would’ve been equally pleasant.

For the next couple of hours, you sat with Minghao, having no shortage of deep discussions. The level of interest between the both of you seemed to grow with every story, every joke, every exchange. There was no denying you were attracted to him by that point, and it was safe to say that the feeling was mutual.

As things began to wind down and the cafe started closing, the two of you took to the streets once more, and talked even more as you walked. Minghao was so intrigued by you, this time he hardly ever stopped to see his surroundings. But once he did, it was outside a shop that had reflective windows. He expected to see his own reflection, but when he looked into the glass, he saw none other than Joshua, gesturing for Minghao to come to him. In that moment, your phone rang, and paused to answer it. Minghao took the opportunity to go a little closer to the image of Joshua.

“Long story short,” Minghao whispered sharply, “I met this human that I really like. And I know you’re going to make me come back to the Underworld, but, let me just say goodbye first.”

“Listen, Minghao,” Said Joshua, “I was almost late for the council meeting today and Seungcheol nearly beheaded me in front of everyone. I can’t have this problem again. Plus,”

Joshua’s hand came out from the glass, to plant itself on Minghao’s shoulder, perhaps in an attempt to comfort him,

“Humans can never sustain romantic relationships with any being other than humans. It’s simply too complex for them. Besides, you can see this human again once they die, so their soul can live with us in the Underworld.”

Minghao took one last glance at you, relishing your beauty for a moment before turning back to the window. You were still on the phone, and Minghao didn’t want to disturb you, so Minghao scratched a small message to you in the corner of the window, before Joshua opened up the border and Minghao stepped through it for the last time.

Once he was back in the Underworld, Minghao could only reflect on what had happened, and tried to honor you by taking your advice. He gave himself more credit for the seemingly mundane but completely necessary work he did, and began feeling more important overall. He felt bad for leaving so hastily, but the message he left you really summed up everything he wanted to say:

‘Til death do us wait…

December Photo Challenge // Day 30 // Favorite of the Year

You cant make me pick just one, so here are a few of my favorites from this year.

Abnormal Daemon Forms

There are many daemon forms that are unusual or rare. Take the blue whale for instance. There’s maybe 4 or 5 people in the entire world that have a blue whale daemon, but each time they settled it made international news. Then you have people with insect daemons. Even though insects make 95% of Earth’s wildlife, only one in ten people will settle as one.

However, settling as an insect is normal. So is settling as a whale, however rare it may be.

What is not normal, however, is an adult having a daemon that’s in a juvenile state. A mythical daemon. A human shaped daemon. An extinct daemon. Multiple “daemons”.

An adult with a daemon in a juvenile state-say, a wolf cub-is a phenomenon that has to do with mental illness. It doesn’t suggest that the adult has the mind/soul of a child, despite common belief. No, what this means is that they likely experienced some kind of trauma during childhood, and the daemon being juvenile in looks is their way of compensating for what they’ve missed. This won’t last forever though-with proper psychiatric care and therapy, the daemon will eventually settle into an adult form.

A mythical daemon-like a unicorn or a dragon-is also almost always a sign of mental illness. If seen with anyone other than a child-which is a normal sign of childhood development-then one can assume that the person is not completely “here”. They may have some form of dissociative disorder, or perhaps be exceptional in some character trait. Vlad the Impaler is the one recorded example we have of this; his manticore daemon struck fear into the man’s many victims. The Dalai Lama, on the other hand, is said to have had the same “snow lion” daemon across reincarnations. However, science has proven that Jinpa is simply a lion that happens to be white.

Human shaped daemons are only ever seen in psychopaths. They’re usually hidden on the person somewhere, while the human wears a (usually opaque) insect daemon lanyard. If a child settles as a human shaped daemon, they’re taken into psychiatric care immediately.

Extinct daemons are extremely rare. Sure, there’s maybe a dozen in one century but most of the time they’re mistaken for regular animals. The last known recorded extinct daemon was an unknown farm woman in 900s rural India who had a mastodon daemon.

Finally there’s the issue of multiple “daemons”. Instead of having a honeybee, for instance, the person would have a swarm of them. This is always a sign of extreme trauma. Be gentle with these people and their daemons!

@striving-artist @avelera and everyone else who thinks about daemons and the Hobbit, I would like to borrow your opinions.

Would Dwarven daemons have their own secret names or not? My thought is perhaps that the daemon’s name is the Dwarf’s secret/inner name, so the Dwarven daemons would rarely if ever tell anyone their name. Especially since they’d be in Khuzdul as well?

(I’m having huge issues finding Thorin’s daemon’s name even tho Bilbo’s was easy and I’m wondering if this is why. Daemons are basically souls after all, sooo)

Hello! Thank you so much for recommending the fanfic Welkin it was such a great read and I'm kind of sad that it's finished!! Daemon and Tsuna's relationship was something I never knew I needed... Do you have any other KHR recommendations that just really struck a chord in you?

Glad you liked that one :) Daemon/Tsuna wasn’t ever a pair I even considered until Welkin. I guess I could rec a few I’ve read just in the past few months that stuck with me?

Second Best by Luki

Sometimes Dino wonders if people remember that the tenth Vongola boss was actually Reborn’s second student.

The Bloody Boys by Luki

Nana heralds from a family of serial killers. She neglects to mention this to her husband, but when Iemitsu makes it clear he doesn’t expect Tsuna to join his family, Nana brings him into hers.

This becomes a problem when Iemitsu changes his mind…

Does Your Amber Heart Bleed Purple Gold by Adel Mortescryche (Mortescryche)

The last thing anyone expected was for the older twin to manifest Cloud Flames.

(Or the one in which Tsuna is Xanxus’ Cloud Guardian, flat-out terrifies anyone who’s heard about him, has a younger brother who loves him, is possibly in a queerplatonic long-distance relationship with Hibari but will never admit it, and is the big brother you never knew you wanted in your life.)

Force of Nature by Ramabear (RyMagnatar) (this one’s a crossover with Naruto; still very good)

He had died- honorably, he’d like to think, despite living as a villain and an assassin for over half a century- and that, as far as Xanxus had ever figured, would be the end of that. No heaven. No hell. Just life when you were breathing and nothingness when you stopped.

Except that it didn’t, quite, turn out that way. Except he came back as the son of the kindest, sometimes saddest father in the world. In both worlds. A father that he knew, without a doubt, to be his flesh and blood. All at once, Xanxus had everything he’d wanted as a child. A home. A family. Stability. And he was going to fight like hell and beat down anyone who tried to take it from him, no matter what his age.

(In which Sakumo raises a son who speaks multiple languages from birth, all of them gibberish to the poor single father jounin, spits vulgarity with the same ease as he does his praise and burns with an unshakable determination to build himself a family that will not fall, no matter who or what is thrown against it.)

Dearly Beloved by WizardsGirl (I recently reread this one, I do love the Bel/Sorako here, hopefully there might be more.)

I had died, and been reborn into the younger twin sister of a boy named Tsunayoshi. His life is pretty hectic, but I promise to be the best little sister ever, and help him through everything. Even the Mafia.

I've had this in my head all day, but just think: Daemons in Dragon Age.

Hawke’s daemon is a dog. Mabari strong like bull, barrel-chested and overwhelmed by affection, the doggiest dog to ever dog, ears perky, tail stubbed, king of the dogs.

Carver’s daemon is a dog. Small stubborn bulldog, squashed face with snores like foghorn, dog drool everywhere, embarrassing and impossible to ignore, little dog enormous man.

Bethany’s daemon is a dog. Elegant poodle, high as her hip, proud to be seen & to see, sharp eyes hidden by lovely hair, easy to love, not family dog so much as just family.

Aveline’s daemon is a dog. Watchdog, hunter, fox terrier with wiry coat and legs a bit too big for its body. Always digging, dirt, the truth, rooting out the things that need to go.

Alistair’s daemon is a dog. Golden retriever, of course, affectionate, loyal to a fault, golden hair that shines in the sun but just a bit too long, a bit too prone to tangle in brambles, in the mud. Always, always, always comes back.

Cousland’s daemon is a dog. Narrow dog & tall, grey whippet with a slender face and strong legs, good for fleeing heavy shadows. Quiet dog, not much to say, but better made as a sighthound anyway.

Cullen’s daemon is a dog. Small dog, a bit goofy, beagle for the flop and the enthusiasm not quite checked by proximity. Paws too clumsy for the rest of him, tail that curls like a noodle, unflinchingly loyal.

All Fereldans’ daemons are dogs.
