Some lovely examples of Czech/Slovak embroidery. I saw where one viewer says they are from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Thanks! You know the internet, most of the time no one bothers to cite where things come from anymore and I certainly want to give credit whenever I can.
The biennial “Ride of the Kings” in Kunovice, southeast Moravia has its origin in the legend of Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus, who was camouflaged as a woman and fled the battlefield in 1469. In the festival, a boy aged 10 to 12 acts as the king, wearing women´s costumes and ribbons over his face and holding a rose in his mouth, so that he remains silent and would not reveal himself.
