curious science

You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish. I have no responsibility to be like they expect me to be. It’s their mistake, not my failing.

is an egg a solid or a liquid

you know what? that’s an excellent question. let’s think about this.

at its simplest, an egg is a single reproductive cell. can cells be defined as either solid or liquid? i’d argue that they can not be classified and that they’re more of a heterogeneous mixture, but i do not have much expertise in this area.

assuming you meant a generic, uncooked, unfertilized chicken egg, i believe i can claim with confidence that its outer shell is solid. whether this counts as a part of the egg or more like bonus content is up to you

Extracting Bismuth from Pepto Bismol!

So today I extracted bismuth from pepto bismol with the chemistry teacher and my partner for a project.  I have pictures explaining each step.  Enjoy!

So I went out and bought 180 pepto bismol pills (obviously not all of them are shown here).

Then we put them in a mortar…

…and ground them with a pestle:

When we were done grinding them we had a beautiful beaker of powdered Pepto Bismol.

Then we got to the fun part.

We dissolved the powder in a solution of six parts water and one part muriatic acid (also known as hydrochloric acid (HCl)).  While we were trying to dissolve it we got this (Ignore the NaOH it was on the flask originally and has nothing to do with this project):

You can see that we got a lot of foam. It even overflowed and we had to put it into separate flasks so we wouldn’t lose our work.  I found this to be hilarious.

I know the flask only shows a little bit of overflow but there was a lot more after! The end result of the dissolved pills was a foggy white solution with foam still present but the powder was dissolved.  Then we filtered it.

This type of filter was not sufficient enough so we switched to a coffee filter which was faster but it was still filtering slowly.  While the solution was being filtered the chemistry teacher was curious and wanted to know if the next step worked so he took some of the filtrate and put the aluminum foil in and it worked!

The black stuff that you see is the bismuth powder which formed as a result of the reaction between the aluminum and the filtrate! We filtered that too but it is not done yet but it probably will be done by tomorrow.  I will post an update if I can.  I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed doing this experiment!

I don’t understand people. I thought maybe I did a little, but I know absolutely nothing because everything is so confusing. Especially when it comes to love. Because if you give someone love and affection you have to give them the “right amount” because if it’s too much it seems like they eventually pull themselves away or feel suffocated, but If you give them too much space they think you’re being cruel or they just let you go because apparently your presence has no effect on them. I try to play their games, but it always results in me being ignored. I’m nice to people, I hold conversations, I’ll make you happy, I’ll make you feel important and be there when you’re sad. I’m passionate, curious, and I’m into science. I want to be something in this world. Why doesn’t anything work? What am I not doing right? I try to tell myself it’s them and not me, but how many times do I have to be shut out before it can’t be “just assholes” or the “wrong person”. How could it be anything except me.

Can someone link me to any articles about scientific research behind gender identity/ sexuality?
(What in our biology affects these things/ what is different in individuals that creates different gender identities and sexualities)

hi! My name is Ani (Ah-Nee) and I’m really passionate about physics, computer science, electronics, architecture, and European history. I love DIY and journaling. I love learning and I’m hella cuirious and hella bi. I also love music and sketching buildings and structures. I’m a fan of Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and PJO. I tolerate all viewpoints as long as they are reasonable and not violating anyone’s rights. I wanna attend MIT and become a scientist. Currently learning how to hack. I also enjoy conspiracies and scary things. I also write sometimes and read a lot. Memes are good.

FUN FACT: Humans have explored less than 5% of the ocean…

How much of you is left to explore?

What YouTubers do you watch? Just curious.

SCIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL CHANNELS:

The King Of Random: A channel about SCIENCE!!!!! They do a lot of stuff with Liquid Nitrogen, Melting Metals and fun experiments. They have a few little science stunts that you can do at home too! It’s really educational! I own two of his limited edition shirts.

The Backyard Scientist: Another Science Channel! They also play with liquid nitrogen, but the channel is exactly what it sounds like; a Science Major doing science in his backyard!

Cody’s Lab: SCIENCE CHANNEL NUMBER THREE!! now THIS Guy is seriously impressive. He refines metals like gold and silver using chemicals like Nitric Acid and their stuff is super interesting! He also has a dang mine in his yard!!! that’s nuts!!! And he owns bees and shows how to take care of them!

Thoughty2: An educational channel that answers your simplest questions that you’ve probably never thought about!

VSauce: Kind of like Thoughty2, but with more Math and science!

COOKING/BAKING CHANNEL:

Rosanna Pansino: OKAY. REALLY CUTE BAKER. HAS REALLY CUTE RECIPES. Wanna do a nerdy little pastry??? Check out her stuff!! She does things like Crème Brulé Dragon Balls and MotherBoard cakes!

BIRDS:

Gotcha The Cockatoo: an adorable Cockatoo called Gotcha, has the sweetest voice, the funniest reactions and hilarious subtitles!

Pebble The Crazy Cockatoo: the one and only, swearing cockatoo.

Mr. Max TV: The Sassiest Cockatoo around.

Peekaboo Parrots: the adorable little adventures of Bowie the Ringneck, Koolaid and Smokey!

I watch Gaming channels too, but mostly just Markiplier and Jacksepticeye.
