Curious learners go deep, and they go wide. Consequently, they are the ones whose jobs are least likely to be taken by intelligent machines. In a world where technology is rapidly replacing humans even in white-collar jobs, it’s no longer enough to be merely smart. Computers are smart. But no computer, however sophisticated, can yet be said to be curious.

If you’ve never seen Meet the Robinson’s before, you really need too. The whole movie is based around the phrase “Keep Moving Forward” and how failing =/= failure.
why do you hate yoda? not an attack I'm just really curious
I appreciate your curiosity because I am ALWAYS up for the chance to rant about my hate for that lil green fucker. Ok so here goes:
To me, Yoda represents everything that is wrong with the Jedi Order. The way he interprets and enforces the code is just highly misguided and allows for no exceptions, and this is one of the things that ultimately leads to Anakin’s issues and the downfall of the Jedi.
Let’s start with Anakin. So you have this nine year old kid who was literally just rescued from slavery and whose life has changed drastically within a matter of days. He’s going through a whirlwind of extreme emotions, as would be natural for anyone in that situation, especially a NINE YEAR OLD CHILD. It’s fucked up enough to not expect any child in that situation to feel fear, but this isn’t even a typical case of a padawan who is recruited by the Jedi from a young age from a healthy family environment with parental consent. This is a boy who was rescued from slavery in order to become a Jedi, and who is reconciling the fact that he is now a free person while the mother he loves dearly is still enslaved. That’s a big fucking emotional burden to deal with. Considering the situation, Anakin actually deals with it in a much more mature and controlled way than many other kids his age would. But nooo, apparently that’s not good enough for Yoda, who can “sense” his fear. How dare Yoda, who is NOT a slave, has not EVER BEEN ENSLAVED (to our knowledge) try to police the emotions of a child who is fresh out of the system of slavery. Who the hell is he to know or say what is right to feel in that situation. But not only does he condemn that Anakin feels afraid, he acts in a way that suggests to Anakin that his fear and emotions might keep him from being trained as a Jedi. Mind you, this kid had JUST BEEN FREED in order to BECOME A JEDI. From Anakin’s perspective, he might think that if he doesn’t get to be a Jedi he has to go back to being a slave on Tatooine. So this is a pivotal moment for Anakin, where he is told that his fear and emotions will not be accepted, and he makes the decision going forward that he needs to repress these things. Right here in this moment is when Yoda already predisposes Anakin to be vulnerable to Palpatine’s influence. He is already putting this kid on the defensive and setting the path for him to repress his emotions in a dangerous way. Then, even after Anakin is granted status as a padawan and then a Jedi Knight, Yoda never fully accepts or trusts him. He is always wary of Anakin and is pretty damn obvious about it. And he’s a representative of the Jedi Council. So instead of Anakin seeing the council as people who are on his side who he can trust and turn to in times of need, he sees a council who does not like him, does not trust him, and who he can’t be open with about issues he’s facing. So many of the bad events of RoTS stem from a lack of communication between Anakin and anyone else. Because he’s been taught that his emotions and fears are not normal to have or an ok thing to experience, he doesn’t feel comfortable talking about them—not just to the Council, but to anyone. So he doesn’t turn to the council, he doesn’t turn to Padme, he doesn’t turn to Obi Wan, because he believes that what he’s feeling is unacceptable and should be pushed aside rather than discussed. And THIS is what makes him vulnerable to Palpatine. And I would argue that all of this is primarily Yoda’s fault.
So if THAT wasn’t enough… this little green nugget of bad kush learns nothing from his mistakes. How do I know that? Because he tries the same bullshit with Luke. Like, fucking up one Skywalker apparently wasn’t enough for him. He goes into hiding for a long time and you would think that during that time alone on Dagobah MAYBE he would find some time to take personal responsibility in his role of failing Anakin and realize what practices and shortcomings led to the downfall of the Jedi. You’d think that he’d realize that maybe the “no attachments” part of the code was outdated and wrong and partially responsible for what led to Anakin turning to the Dark Side. Nope. None of this happens. On Dagobah when Luke realizes that Han and Leia are in trouble, Yoda tries to stop him from going to save them! He tries to argue that Luke should let Han and Leia die so that he can “honor what they fight for.” What bullshit is that? Luckily, Luke doesn’t listen to this mess and still goes and saves Han and Leia, but honestly after all this time Yoda STILL doesn’t realize that MAYBE he’s been doing something wrong.
I won’t go into it, but he’s also kinda a piece of shit regarding Ahsoka’s trial in TCW. Basically,to me, Yoda represents this pervasive toxic masculinity of the Jedi Order that views having emotions as weak and dangerous. I’ll finish my rant with this excerpt from some book that I think is in the legends-verse now.
Have you ever thought about how much kids would love Combeferre? Kids always have very intricate and complicated questions no one has answers to, “why is the sky blue?”, “Why do we have fingernails?”, “Why does earwax taste so disgusting?”
And you know who has all those answers? Combeferre! Combeferre pushes his glasses up his nose, sit next to the kids to be at the same level, and uncovers a whole world of wonders. He doesn’t look down on kids, he wants to elevate them and help their curiosity grow.
Anyway. Combeferre and curious kids. A wholesome combo

we go over the steps of real contact with spirit, let’s go over some
warnings and some advice on technique. This guide will work for

do you have to give back to this spirit? (Offerings? Time? Energy?)
my experience, all spirits get something out of an interaction with a
human. It could simply be that their curiosity is sated. A spirit
could just be curious as to what kind of human is sending out a call
in to their world! It could be that helping or aiding you assists
their calling in life or a job they currently have. It could also be
that they would like some kind of payment in return, such as
offerings of incense, food, or drink. If you have the ability and
inclination, have some small offerings on hand. Coffee, tobacco, any
foods (I find they seems to like processed foods less), and any
alcohols are good. Even a glass of fresh water and/or a little
incense will be good.
you have your intent written down, formulate your call. Here are
three example calls that I would use myself.

me that someone uses their true name immediately with spirits. It’s

in a quiet place. Make your environment as witchy as possible to get
you in the right mindset. Candles and incense work great if you have
them, otherwise try atmospheric music. Do whatever it takes to make
you feel like you are connected to the “other” world. Try praying
for protection or wearing protection amulets that you may have.
you are ready, read your call. Read it out loud or mentally, it
doesn’t matter; nothing on this plane of existence will hear it
this point one of two things will happen: a spirit will visit you, or
it will not.
a spirit does not appear within a few moments, read your call again.
Repeat this for three calls total, then try again the next day or the
next week. If necessary, do divination to discover why spirits did
not want to appear for you. Is it possible the spirit you called for
does not exist? Try a different call (more will be listed below) for
practice. Is it possible you just do not know how to detect a spirit
if it does appear? If nothing seems to be working after a week or so
of trying, send me a message. Please send me the exact calls you
that spirits are not physical.
It is extremely uncommon that a person will see a spirit with their
two eyes. A being isn’t just going to appear three dimensionally in
your bedroom. Most likely, that being will appear within your
imagination. The imagination is an extremely powerful magical tool
and should not be ignored because it is “make believe”. If you
call an air elemental you may imagine a whirlwind, a bird, a cloud,
or anything else that is ‘airy’ in nature, for example.
your imagination suddenly changes with an image of something,
mentally or verbally greet it. Try, “Hello, you may call me
[magical name]. Are you replying to my call?”
what a spirit is communicating to you is tricky. If only they spoke
plain English! Look for any sign that the spirit has responded. The
image of the spirit may seem to move closer to you, or further away.
It may appear to be happy, sad, or upset. You may suddenly get
empathetic feelings of agreement or disagreement. You may actually
hear, feel, or think words. It is your job to interpret what the
spirit is trying to communicate with you. If you like, ask the spirit
to influence your divinatory tools so you can communicate through
repeating questions. They do not seem to like it. Ask once, and if
you can’t interpret, apologize and ask another question instead.
absolutely nothing seems to happen, take it as a sign that the spirit
did not respond to you. In this situation, if the spirit does not
respond, say, “if you are not here to answer my call and assist me,
please leave. Thank you for your time.” There is no need to be
hostile or rude, just send them away. If they refuse to leave, it is
time to banish.
something does happen, for example if you sense a feeling of
agreement or the image seems to nod at you, take this as an
affirmative that the spirit is here to answer your call. Continue
with your line of questioning. Try these questions:
may I call you?” (Do not ask for their name directly, I have never
had good results when I do).
you [the spirit I asked for]?”
you like to continue communicating this way?”
is your role in my life?”
you are here to make a deal and get it over with, don’t drag out the
small talk. “Are you the spirit I called for? Will you protect my
house for some brandy? Awesome, I’ll pay you once a week and we’ll
revisit the contract in a month.”
you are there to make a lasting connection, speak for as long as you
like or until the spirit appears to become restless or bored.
the spirit departs, or when you ask it to depart, the mental image of
them should leave their mind. Carefully distinguish between having
that spirit actively within your imagination, and memories of the
spirit within your imagination.
this first meeting, you can call the same spirit by the name they
gave you. Try, “the spirit that gave me the name [spirit’s name] on
the date [the date you first met the spirit], please come to me so we
don’t have the time or inclination to include full banishing rituals
in this small guide. Simply google “how to banish a spirit” or
ask a friendly Tumblurian to help :)
so here’s what you gotta do. Just pay attention. If
something feels disturbing, wrong, or scary, DO NOT IGNORE THOSE
FEELINGS. Fear is an instinct
that exists to keep us safe. It is not you being a scaredy cat. It is
not you being silly, nervous, or having stage fright. Ask the spirit
to leave immediately and do a quick cleansing on your space.
about what you asked for and judge a spirit by those standards. An
air spirit is not going to take the form of a boulder. A rain spirit
is not going to take the form of a candle flame.
something sounds too good to be true, it is. If a spirit is telling
you that you are the chosen one, that you need it to be powerful,
etc., you are going to be dinner. Send it away.
would consider these calls to be relatively safe and good just to get
a little experience in. Ask these spirits to come visit you for a
short time, then bid them farewell. There is no need to get a name
from them unless you really want to call them back. The offerings are
just suggestions, to give you some ideas.

NOT call human relatives to you at this point. It is way too easy for
a demon or spook to pretend to be a human relative. It is okay if
human spirits come to you in general, but it is a suckerpunch to the
gut to realize that your beloved departed is really an evil spirit in
disguise. Stick with animal friends for now.

prompt: can you please write another 13 reasons why imagine? one with jeff atkins where you’re clays younger sister? + I know you have a lot of request so I don’t want to overwhelm you so you can ignore this you need to, but if you’re not could you do a Jeff Atkins imagine of being Clay’s twin sister who he has a massive crush on and Clay finds out and thinks it hilarious because Jeff needs his help with girls but then he actually helps him get his sister???
warnings: fluff !! nervous!jeff, light swearing
a/n: i love jeff and i thought i would be cool to combine both of these requests !! hope you enjoy ! like always requests are open and feedback is appreciated :) xx
You were Clay Jensen’s younger sister, twin sister be more specific. He was older than you by 10 minutes and he would always make ‘When I was your age.’ jokes which made you want to strangle him. But life wasn’t all bad, you were friends with Hannah, who always made jokes about you and your brother bring nerds. Then occasionally you would hang with your brother while he tutored the one and only, Jeff Atkins.
To say he was attractive would be an understatement. Jeff Atkins was a big ball of sunshine and he was adorable. You would sit a couple chairs down away from your brother when he tutored Jeff. You didn’t want to bother him, so you either listened to music, take naps, do homework or sometimes read. You remembered once Jeff helped your brother with Oh My Dollar Valentine’s. You overheard Jeff say, “Dude, why not just say you watch Lord of the Rings on repeat.”
“I don’t do that. Anymore.” You heard your brother say and you held in a laugh when both Tony and Jeff gave him looks. Then Tony chimed in, “You used to do that?” You scoff, “What do you mean used to? You still do it now.” You chimed in, looking up from your book. The three boys looking over at you, Clay looking at you wide-eyed. “Shut up Y/N!” Clay exclaimed, you shaking your head and laughing. “Who is that?” Jeff asked Clay looking back towards Clay.
“That would be my annoying twin sister, Y/N.” Clay answered, reading over his questionnaire. Jeff looked at your quiet figure, you had looked fascinated in the book you were reading. Jeff got up and walked over to you, sitting down across from you. “Hello there.” You greeted not looking up from your book. The thing was that you and Jeff never really spoke, it would just be an occasional “hello” and smile. “Hey Y/N. I’ve been wondering if you were gonna do the Valentine questionnaire thing?” Jeff asked, feeling himself get nervous with every word he spoke.
You looked away from your book and at him. “Um, not really. I would rather try and find my soulmate then let some algorithm and machine pair me up with someone.” You answered. “Why do you wanna know Atkins?” You ask, leaning towards him, curiosity in your voice. “I’m just curious, and because I’m helping your brother with his love life.” You give him a small smile, “well good luck, my brother’s love life is pretty small and sad.” You spoke quietly, trying not to let Clay hear. Jeff let out a chuckle, then got up. “Until our next talk Y/N.” Then he walked over and sat down next to Clay and their tutoring session continued.
Over a course of many weeks, you and Jeff had started talking more, leading to Jeff having a massive crush on you. It had gotten to the point where he would get nervous sitting near you. So Jeff being Jeff had confided to Clay. It was a normal day, Clay was tutoring Jeff but you weren’t there, you had gone with Hannah to Monet’s. Jeff decided this would be a perfect opportunity to ask about you. “Hey Clay, do you think you could help me?” Clay looked up from the textbook and nodded his head.
“There’s this girl I like and I don’t know how to talk to her or how to ask her out.” Clay was stunned for a moment. “Hold up, you, Jeff Atkins, is asking me, Clay Jensen, for relationship advice,” Jeff sighed at Clay’s words but let him continued. “This is amazing, who’s the lucky girl?” Clay asked and Jeff was nervous, once again. “Um, it’s Y/N.” Jeff answered quietly, hoping Clay wouldn’t be mad. “Really, my sister? But don’t worry, I’m not mad. You know what, I’ll help you Jeff.” Clay said with a smile and Jeff sighed in relief.
“So anything I should know?” Jeff asked. Clay told Jeff some of your interests but gave him some advice. “I know this is gonna sound cliche and shit but dude seriously, just be yourself. Y/N already likes you for who you are, you shouldn’t try and change yourself. Just be confident and ask her out, she’s at Monet’s right now. Go and ask her out now.” Jeff thought for a moment then gathered his things and got up.
Jeff headed out to Monet’s, he was practically running, hoping you hadn’t left yet. To his relief, you were sitting inside at the small circle table where Hannah usually sat. Hannah was nowhere to be seen so Jeff sat down in the seat across from you. “Hey Jeff.” You greeted with a smile. Jeff’s heart fluttered at your smile, which made him more nervous. “U-um, Y/N, I was w-wondering if you w-wanted to go o-out sometime?” Jeff ask causing you to giggle. “I would love to go out with you.” You answered, a huge grin appearing on Jeff’s face. “Wait, isn’t Clay suppose to be helping you right now?” You asked and Jeff nodded his head.
“I asked your brother for advice to asking you out.” Jeff said quietly. “Why wouldn’t you just ask me out?” You laugh, Jeff’s cheeks started to blush. “I really liked you! I get nervous around you!” He exclaimed, the two of you bursting into laughter. “You’re such a dork.” You smile. Jeff gives you a cheeky grin, “Only for you.”
Prompt: Derek, master of tight black jeans and tight dark henley's, shows up to a pack meeting wear a soft blush pink sweater and light faded blue jeans and he just looks so soft Stiles wants to touch.
Stiles had learned a lot of things
about Derek Hale, Beacon Hills’ very own grumpy werewolf with a dry
wit and a heart of gold, over the years of knowing him.
For one, Derek Hale was a nerd behind
the walls he had put up to protect himself – his feelings, his
heart – after everything he had been through. He owned so many
books, that they couldn’t even fit onto the many, many shelves he had
put in the loft after he returned to the town the year before.
He had a movie collection that easily
beat Stiles’ own, and he could talk for hours and hours about pretty much any historical event. Stiles knew from personal experience, had
listened to him go on and on for a seemingly endless time, and he hadn’t been bored for a single second of it.
For another, Derek had incredible,
although slightly boring, taste in music. Incredible because the
music he did listen to was good and calming. Boring because there
wasn’t a lot of variety, the same songs playing on repeat.
Stiles had only complained about it
once (okay, maybe three times) but then he’d seen the relaxed
expression on Derek’s face while the music filled the loft and he’d
For a third, Derek had pictures of his
family stored away somewhere. None of them were put up when the loft
got redecorated, and no one in the pack had asked. Not even Cora.
For a fourth, Derek was a damn good
cook and an even better baker. Stiles could eat his own weight in his
cooking, probably more than.
For a fifth, Derek was as much of a big
brother as he was a little brother. He could tease and annoy in his
own way as much as he could protect and glare away anyone coming
anywhere near the people he cared about.
For a sixth, Derek looked amazing in
dark colors, and his typical tight black jeans and dark henley combo
constantly made Stiles drool. Dark colors, Stiles had learned over
the years, were Derek’s color. Stiles hadn’t seen him in any actual
colors since that one blue shirt that was ruined in a fight all those

had missed seeing Derek wearing colors. Not until Derek walked in

Read all the books and other info you can, but learn to read critically.
Don’t be afraid to read things you might not agree with or identify
with. Study is study and just because you read it doesn’t mean you have
to believe it or incorporate it into your practice.
That being said, don’t appropriate cultures or cultural practices
that do not belong to your or that you have not be trained and/or
initiated in. There are ways to study cultures that are not
appropriative, pay attention and be respectful.
Let your personal curiosity lead your study. What are you interested
in about witchcraft? History? Divination? Plants? tarot? sigils? candle
magic? charms or talismans? knot magic? Energy work? Study what you are interested in and see
where it goes. There is a learning theory called “unschooling” that believes humans are naturally curious and that we should follow that curiosity to create our study. So, seek what interests you about witchcraft and find information about that.
You don’t have to buy all the fancy witchy stuff, especially if you
don’t know if you are even going to use it. Stuff you already have is
fine. Things from thrift store are cheap, and work just as well. You might not ever use that cheap athame from the witch shop, but you might fall in love with a thrift shop mason jar.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to practice witchcraft. Walk around your neighborhood and get to know the plants and animals, even urban spaces have unique magical things. Check out the spices in your spice rack and look up their correspondences. There are lots of books on witchcraft online for free as well as phone apps that could suit your needs.
Check out your local library. If they don’t specifically have books on witchcraft they will still have books on plants, history, and folklore. you might also be able to check things out with inter-library loans.
You don’t have to publicly document your path. I’m really happy
there isn’t a public documentation of my witchling years or my baby punk
years. Seriously, so much stumbling embarrassment. However, it is
always helpful to document your progress for yourself; a hidden blog, a
notebook, or google doc are just fine to start.
There is no universal witch. If you don’t want to work witchcraft in a religion, don’t. maybe secular witchcraft is for you. If you don’t want to work with deities, don’t. If forests give you the creeps and you love cities more, great, maybe urban witchery is for you. Make your witchcraft, your witchcraft.
There is little good in arguing with people that disagree with you,
especially on the internet. If someone is not being hurtful and they
just happen to believe differently than you, leave them alone. A witch
that believes differently than you does not diminish what you do.
Remember that witchcraft is a collected set of skills and practices. These are things that you hone as you find what works for you. It is not something that will be given to you or that you
will have instantly. It is something to be worked at that you can always
Basically, if you study and practice witchcraft, whatever that means to you, you can call yourself a witch. Also, if you do those things and don’t want to call yourself a witch, you don’t have to.
