So, I have many ways of cutting out characters, and I pick which way to use depending on the scene. In this tutorial I will show you 3 ways to cut out characters for gifs. Let’s get started!

  • Program: Photoshop CS6 Portable
  • Difficulty: Easy (it’s just time consuming)
  • Previous Knowledge: Basic knowledge on how to make gifs (any PS resource blog will have tutorials on how to make them)

put under a read more because it got quite long

If you have Chrome, an alternative to linkclump for bonding, open all your tabs for a page, save it as a bookmark folder (ctrl-shift-d), name it page no. whatever, then when you need to bond, just rightclick on the folder, click “open all bookmarks”, zoom out and you’re good to go! I’m not sure how well this works on other browsers, though.

this should be 100% legal as it’s a basic function of your browser and not an extension.

Before I dived straight into my tutorial on beard editing, I thought I might aswell show my technique for getting rid of green backgrounds without deleting any of your sim’s luscious locks, or ending up with a green halo.

Step one: Take a well lit photo of your sim on a bright green background. I just use a plain wall and change the color to a nauseatingly neon green in game.

And for fucks sake don’t put your sim in a green top or you’ll end up with something like this

If your sim specifically has green hair or something, you can use a different neon color such as yellow, red or blue, but make sure they are neon as it could pick up tones in your sim’s skin.

Step two: Double click on the background layer, you should get a box like this. You can name it if you want, but it’s not really necessary. Click OK.

Step three: At the top of photoshop there will be a bar where you find your options such as File, Edit, Help and so on. Find ‘Select’ and go down to 'Colour Range’.

Step Four: A box will pop up that should have a black and white image of your sim in it. Don’t mess with any of the options, with the exception of 'Fuzziness’, you can play around with this if you want and it will make the selection a bit tighter, but it is not necessary.

Step Five: On your original color picture, click on the bright green background. The black and white picture should change to the background being completely white, and your sim being completely black.

Step Six: Hit OK. The green background will now be selected.

Step Seven: Hit delete and you will delete the green background. Press CTRL and D to deselect the selection. Alternatively, you right click the selection and choose deselect.

Step Eight: Now since the background, we might be left with some green tinges on the hair and face. To get rid of this, we will go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.

Step Nine: Now the Hue/Saturation box will pop up. There will be a pop down list which will be on the default 'Master’. Go down to 'Greens’.

Step Ten: If your sim has dark hair, you can take the saturation and lightness all the way down, and this will get rid of the green.

If your sim has lighter hair, you can change the 'Hue’ to the color of your sims hair, and take down the saturation and lightness until it matches your sim’s hair.

Extras: If your sim still has a little green tinge on parts of their face, I usually take a soft brush will the opacity set VERY low, and use a red to go over it. Red cancels out green, but make sure to not go overboard on this otherwise your sim will look like they have a weird disease.

That is everything! If you have any questions regarding the steps, or are confused at any point and would like help with your photo, feel free to send me a message!

I was asked before to make a tutorial by an anon but I accidentally deleted my answer (fuck me) SO here is another tutorial (which is basically the same thing I wrote the other day!).

yo you got any essential features of photoshop? like right now ive basically only just discovered the thing where you make a layer that doesnt go outside of the lines of the layer you connected it to. i was just wondering since youve got some crazy effects in your art that i probably couldnt replicate without serious manhours

Haha you mean clipping masks? Ah man I do a lot of stuff subconsciously so I don’t really think about it much but uhh… some random things:

- holding shift lets you draw in a straight line. putting your stylus down on a certain point then holding shift and touching another part of the canvas connects the dots

- to make a quick glow: set a new layer to Screen and airbrush a bright color over the area. adjust opacity accordingly.

- you can use gaussian blur to quickly indicate depth (blurring the background or foreground)

- if your values are messed up you can go into Curves and fiddle with it. no need to repaint anything lol

- ctrl + h hides the marching ants that show up when you make a selection. the selection is still there and you can deselect easily with ctrl + d

- if you drew something and you realize it’s out of proportion/perspective/etc: edit>transform>distort and tweak it until it’s right. no need to erase and redraw.

- go to windows>actions and create a new action. press record and record yourself flipping the canvas horizontally. bind it to a key and you can now flip your canvas back and forth with the touch of a button

If there’s an effect in my art you’re curious about just point it out and i’ll try to remember what i did.

Using: Photoshop CC

This one is more of a beginner tutorial. Here I’ll show how I prepare the cap for coloring, including coloring the lineart.

Before you start to color, you have to make sure that your cap is the right size, so your colorings can look sharp, tumblr doesn’t stretch them etc. For that, check THIS post.

Now, obviously, you erase whatever you don’t need in your cap. And if necessary, add/fill in some areas.

Now, this is the most important part. We will make the background transparent, so that only the lineart remains (which can be colored later).

First, make sure the cap layer is like this:

Then, go to Channels and click on the circle button and then press DELETE on your keyboard.

The background should be transparent now, like this:

Important: Now DESELECT (Ctrl + D)!

Next, go back to Layers, make a new layer and fill it in with any color.

To color the lineart you have to lock the layers transparency by clicking here:

Now you can color the lineart.

Coloring the lineart is very important! Here you have an example of Mira with colored and with black lineart. Which one do you think is better?

In the next tutorial: The highly requested color palette. Stay tuned :’)

Sabrina’s Icon Tutorial

So you wanna learn how to make simple icons, and make them fast? This is the post FOR YOU. I constantly brag about my 1,500 icons for each of my muses, all simply edited and edited fast with minimal effort on my end.
(Note, this tutorial ISN’T how I edit my icons, but how I make editing them easier on myself.)

For this tutorial, you will need:
Photoshop! I use CS6 and while these features might be in earlier versions, I suggest getting CS6 to make things easier on yourself!
Icons to edit! Make sure you’re allowed to edit your icons if you download them from someone else’s icon set.

If you are cropping your icons yourself, try to save the image with the artist’s URL- that way, you can credit the artist if someone asks for it, and you can delete the icon if the artist comes and asks you not to use their art.
If you didn’t crop your icons yourself, don’t worry about it, but please remember to be respectful if an artist approaches you and asks you to stop using a certain icon that uses their art! If they say to stop, stop using the icon and delete it like they asked you to.

That said, let’s get right into this! If a part has confused you, please don’t be afraid to head to my inbox and ask me for clarification!
Also note that this is MY METHOD of making icons- there is no Right or Wrong way to make icons. This is simply how I do them, and how I edit 1,500+ icons in a matter of 10 minutes.

Image-Heavy tutorial below the cut!

I tried so hard to figure Photoshop out but it’s literally a beast all it’s own… I’m so used to Sai that like, I nearly had a breakdown trying to figure it out. Ya might think I’m exaggerating, but… really here’s a few of the things that got me:

There’s no clear layer button?! If you wanna clear the layer without deleting it, you gotta do THESE steps: ctrl+a, delete button, ctrl+d

UNDO AND REDO?! They’re more complicated?! Undo went from ctrl+z(sai) to ctrl+z for ONE undo OR ctrl+alt+z for as many undo as your heart desires in photoshop! AND REDO. Redo in Sai is ctrl+y. But in photoshop. ctrl+shift+z.

There’s no good blending tool? It makes me wanna weep. I tried using the blur tool to find that it does zip on paint/color stuff. And then I changed it to the smudge tool and OOF, did that just drag the colors around without giving it a nice blending effect.

ANYWAY this whole experience gave me 100x more respect for the artists who use Photoshop as their primary art program because WOW FRIEND you musta really hung in there?!

anonymous asked:

Is there a way to get a gradient on only a particular part of the drawing instead of the whole canvas?

Yes. Use the selection tools to select an area first, then add the gradient - the gradient will only be applied in the selected area.

After applying the gradient to the selected area, use Select menu, Unselect (shortcut: Ctrl+D on Windows, Cmmd+D on Macs) to unselect the area.
