An aside, re:disembodied teeth

As work progresses (and on some days, regresses) on the Crown of Teeth etchings, there has been discussion about what actually makes them so intensely creepy. I put it to you like this…

• We take animal teeth—fangs—and put them in human mouths and we call those monsters. Vampires, werewolves, even manticores. The classics.

• We take human teeth and put them in beasts and they are so terrifying, the word monster is inadequate. Creepy only barely scratches the surface. All words are inadequate. IT IS A THING OF WRONGNESS.

While I am not thrilled with Micron line quality—to put it mildly—it does have the advantage of not goobering ink unexpectedly on my work?

(Is it extra creepy to know that these are renderings of my own teeth? They are, after all, the ones I know best.)
