crown & glory

of a forlorn tigress

stephanie w.
you become more of what you are capable
of becoming when you touch my hair
with fiercest knowing in your eyes

the lilies stabbing needles all around us,
fearfully exhuming every stem gone
autumnal, like a deer that worships the
Word, more than deed,
and thought, receding

whispering our farewells to faithless prayers
that patiently receive the crowned glory
of the ages,

pensive and fulfilled of prophecies long
ceased, she eyes him with the emptiness
of a forlorn tigress,
sighing laden with her lungs collapsed,
and fickly sharpening her teeth

with a monstrous gleam still seeping through
the light, pretending to uphold this
darkly fashioned spurring –

making love to lost souls once spirited away
by the sound of maidens rapping, now released
upon a time

that lurches sweet in water,
finitely broken, ablaze.

Roses grow upon briers, which is to signify that all temporal sweets are mixed with bitter. But what seems more especially to be meant by it, is that true happiness, the crown of glory, is to be come at in no other way than by bearing Christ’s cross by a life of mortification, self-denial and labor, and bearing all things for Christ. The rose, the chief of all flowers, is the last thing that comes out. The briery prickly bush grows before, but the end and crown of all is the beautiful and fragrant rose.
—  Jonathan Edwards, Shadows of Divine Things

“Hear my words, and bear witness to my vow,” they recited, their voices filling the twilit grove. “Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.”

Rio 2016: Fiji's first medal is gold after crushing sevens final

Fiji’s maiden medal in their Olympic history was a gold as they thrashed Great Britain 43-7 in the Games’ first men’s rugby sevens final.

The island nation - appearing at their 14th summer Games - had never previously stepped on the podium, but their crowning glory rarely looked in doubt at the Deodoro Stadium.

A breathtaking display of running power and a penchant for incessant offloading helped Fiji stretch out an astonishing 29-0 lead at half-time, Leone Nakarawa a particularly devastating presence as GB completely wilted.

Five of the seven starters helped themselves to tries before the interval, leading to a processional second-half outing for both sides.

Dan Norton touched down for GB, although that score was sandwiched by further Fiji tries through Josua Tuisova and Viliame Mata.

Fiji celebrated their victory with a rousing group song as their emotional players cherished a national milestone.

The bronze medal match preceding the final perhaps set the tone as South Africa hammered Japan 54-14.

While not to be confused with the blue variety of corundum after which it was named, this rare mineral is a silicate with magnesium and aluminium that forms in high grade metamorphic events such as mountain building, when stacks of rocks are subjected to extreme pressure and temperature gradients and the minerals within transform into others more appropriate to the geological environment, though some deposits show evidence of formation in volcanic lavas and intrusive rocks in particular circumstances.

One of the most important ways that the Old Covenant foreshadows the New is in its use of the image of the sacrificial lamb.

…Then one of the elders said to me, ’Weep not. Lo, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, he has conquered so that he can open the scroll and seven seals.’“ You could almost feel the hallelujah rising up from within your soul. The Lion of the tribe of Judah! You turn. You look and John turns to look and what does he see in verse 6, "And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw,” what? Aslan, the lion? No. David crowned with glory? No. You’d think so, a lion and a king are the words used to describe it. “I turned and I saw a lamb standing, looking as though it had been slain.

Jesus Christ is the son of David and the king of the new and heavenly Jerusalem. He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah and He is the Lamb of God, slain from the foundation of the world, as it said elsewhere in Revelation. But here in heaven on the throne of glory, after His crucifixion, His resurrection, His ascension, His enthronement, He still looks like a lamb. He still looks as though He had been slain. Why not clean up the body? Why not wipe away the wounds? Why continue resembling a lamb? Because He’s continuing the Passover offerings, the sacrifice. Not by dying, not by bleeding and not by suffering but by continuing to offer up Himself as the firstborn and as the unblemished lamb, as the perpetual, timeless, everlasting sacrifice of praise to the Father.”

listen you. stop writing such amazing symmrat because it is inspiring me to write my own and honestly? I DON'T HAVE THE TIME FOR THAT COMMITMENT. ugh. your body is a weapon is going in my top five across all fandoms. hands down.

I WILL NEVER STOP WRITING unless I get utterly burnt out somehow but I don’t foresee that happening anytime soon because this is such a joy to do and everyone is so bloody nice so I WILL NEVER STOP WRITING.

Please do write, though! Everyone in the ship would greatly appreciate it, I’m sure, and I know our smallness compared to other ships has an unfortunate side effect of lack of content! Any and all is welcomed C:

Aaah, thank you so much! YBIAW is like. my crowning glory, honestly. I have never put forth so much effort into a piece of work before. I love the characters and the world and the ship and the idea of what I’ve got in mind for the plot, and I just feel so ECSTATIC that I’ve been driven to do this by unseen forces and I absolutely cannot stop.

Plus, everyone is so nice. So, so nice. I have never been treated so nicely by a fandom before. ;~;  All of you are so wonderful.

Could you Dec any fics through the PoV (I couldn't think of any other way to describe it! :L) of John's blog? Also some angsty fics about maybe John is secretly supposed to destroy Sherlock or something?

Allright, Nonnie, here we go, two funny ones featuring John Watson’s Blog:

An experiment gone wrong results in endless amusement for John.

John Watson’s Blog by kyaticliketea

John Watson’s blog. Set post-Reichenbach, although there won’t be many mentions of that.

And two angsty Slavery AU fics, because I realised that I couldn’t think of many fanfics where John is not on Sherlock Holmes’ side.

In a world where the British Empire is still strong and slavery is her economic backbone, John has become a terrorist for the abolitionist movement.

Should these not be your cup of tea, or if you are looking for something even darker, you can always check out the Dark John tag on AO3… or Johniarty, but sorry, I don’t have any specific recs for this pairing.

Tempted By Insecurity

Psalm 8:4-5- “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou has made him a little lower than the angles, and hast crowned him with glory and honor.” (KJV)

Devotion: God has crowned you with dignity and honor, and you are made in His image. For this reason, you should not give in to temptation of insecurity. God does not see insecurity in anyone; only we do. Signs of insecurity include overreaction and anger towards someone or something. The next time you find yourself angry, dig deep and examine the cause behind your anger. It just may be from feelings of insecurity.

I’m so proud to announce my first ever zine, Crowning Glory! My mother said a woman’s hair is her crowning glory and that inspired me to create this zine which explores the relationship Nigerian women have with their hair. I loved being able to interview the phenomenal women featured in this zine and I learnt more about myself in the process. Click here to read the zine and like and share this if you liked it! This is a pdf copy with a different format, it is A3 so you will be able to see full open pages as opposed to one page (A4 sheet).

“I literally cannot trust you two to do anything!” Sokka howled, glaring at his sister and her boyfriend as they both stood sheepishly in the middle of his apartment kitchen, covered in paint. Behind him, Suki was shaking with silent laughter.

“The only reason I asked you two to help decorate, was because Aang’s out of town, Toph’s blind, and I wanted to take Suki out for a nice meal,” Sokka continued ranting. “And I stupidly, stupidly thought to myself ‘hey, my little sister and my best friend who’s also her boyfriend are gonna be left in my apartment alone, but nothing bad’s gonna happen! After all, it’s just decorating!’ But no! Look at yourselves!”

“It’s not as bad as you’re making it out to be Sokka!” Katara protested, as Suki let out several loud snorts.

Not as bad-!” Sokka’s voice rose to a shriek. “It’s exactly as bad as I’m making it out to be! I just-aaaargh!” He threw his hands up in the air, and stalked into his room.

Katara and Zuko exchanged looks, while Suki continued sniggering, and the sound of muffled screeching began to reach their ears.

“Suki,” Zuko mumbled, rubbing his neck. “It's…it’s not as bad as he’s making it out to be…is it?”

“Of course not!” Katara snapped before Suki could answer. “It’s just Sokka exaggerating, as usual. You know what he’s like.”

“Noooo,” Suki hiccupped. “Not as much as he usually does.”

“Hmm, getting flashbacks to when you first started liking each other, and we had to explain everything to you,” Suki muttered. “Ahem. Let me set it out for you. Sokka leaves you alone in his apartment, with the orders of decorating as much as you can, and no funny stuff. He comes back to find three walls with paint on them, the rest on you, and obvious evidence that you two have been making out in here while he’s been gone. This starting to make sense now?”

“What obvious evidence?” Zuko didn’t bother to deny her theories; Suki was like a bloodhound when it came to sniffing out bullshit.

Suki rolled her eyes. “Have either of you looked in a mirror lately?”

Katara frowned. “No. Why would we?”

With an exaggerated sigh, Suki rustled through one of the drawers for Sokka’s, sorry, her hand mirror (“I need to check if my wolf-tail looks alright, Suki! I can’t go out looking less than perfect!”), and brought it over to them.

“Katara, you’re covered in red paint. Zuko, you’re covered in blue paint. What do you get when you mix red and blue?”

Beneath the paint, Katara and Zuko’s cheeks reddened as they took in their appearances; their faces and necks spattered with incriminating patches of lilac.

Crowning Glory ~ Book 1 in The Decay Trilogy

Read it here

So I’ve been a bit quiet lately, and here’s one of the reasons why! This is the first book in The Decay Trilogy. The first features POVs from Aurelie, Dain and Grace, while the second and third will gradually add a couple more. Please let me know what you think!

Almost two centuries after the apocalyptic event that was World War III, Earth’s population is slowly dwindling. Eurasia is ruled by the Supreme Court, who impose strict rules - but not everyone is treated the same. The Fertile, the rare ones, are considered special. As the only ones who can repopulate the planet, they are exceptions to otherwise harsh laws. The Infertiles, the more expendable, experience often deadly punishments.

Aurelie Bancroft, a thirteen-year-old Fertile, is married to Dain Rochester and expected to produce children as soon as possible. Spoilt, passionate and fiery, she is naive to the cruel world faced by many others. Then she hears whispers of an Infertile movement fast morphing into a revolution, led by an inspirational figure known only as the General. Aurelie’s curiosity sends her stable world spiralling out of control as she is drawn further into the depths of chaos. The Supreme Council to shut it down…but they’re already too late.
