crocheted man

So I’ve made my own crochet sweater pattern for the first time! It’s gonna be a silver and black Venom pullover based on the one featured in @hannahblumenreich‘s wonderful comic, which you can read here:

After I read it, I HAD to looked at pretty much all of her spiderman art, so I REALLY recommend you at least look at the comics on her blog, they’re ALL good. (now that my nose is good and brown, let me talk about something else) After I saw the sweater in the comic, I realized that I NEEDED that sweater, but I couldn’t find one like it ANYWHERE!! So I just went “fuck it, I need that, I’m making one.”

For those that crochet, I made a chain of 45, skipped the last stitch, and single stitched until I reached the end again. Then, I did a 1:1 pattern of front-back double crochets for three rows. I switched to single stitch for the rest, and I’m basically going to do this for the entire sweater. Once that’s done, I’ll slip stich the sides and tops together and do the same 1:1 pattern of front-back doubles around the collar. I hope that was coherent. This pattern is pretty much free for anyone to use, just tell me if you make this, I’d love to see what other people make!!! (I’d also love it if you checked out @hannahblumenreich seriously I’m pretty sure she’s one of the few people I know of that loves Spiderman more than me) Also this is taking like six balls of THE SOFTEST yarn i’ve ever felt, I highly recommend Lion Brand super bulky, IT’S SO SOFT THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST SWEATER!!!

#229 Houndoom

OH MY GOSH. THIS ONE WAS SO HARD. Also I’m a day late with this one (it’s supposed to be for day 17, and I was gonna finish it last night/this morning, but spiders) so I’ve got to do another one today haha.

Saitama from One Punch Man is one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite comics of all time. It’s one of those where every couple months, I remember to check for new chapters and, you know, while I’m at it, reread the entire thing. Granted, I have a lot of favorite characters in this case. Genos is great, and Sonic (whatever the rest of his name is) and King and… everyone is great, okay? I have determined if you don’t like the show/comic, it because you haven’t seen enough hero and/or martial arts anime.

Crocheting a bald character was weird. Nice, but weird. The hair is normally the most time-consuming part of a character, so it was nice to not have that. But then, I’m so used to doing hair that I couldn’t remember how to do a head without it for a moment. It was an odd feeling.

I’m thinking I might try Genos (even though I have no idea how I’ll manage that), but in the meantime, Saitama’s Etsy listing is here

so i just picked up crocheting so now i'm thinking about that knitter tony au you do, like what if tony makes little plushies of each of the avengers and just leaves them in the common room and bucky makes the little iron man and little winter soldier kiss (and maybe steals the iron man for himself)

I think you know they do

Haha this is so adorable oh my God. You can’t see it but I’m grinning like a loon.

Aw and of course Tony’s first reaction would be that Crochet Iron Man was lost or misplaced so he spends time lifting furniture and digging in the couch and he can’t find him so he has to sit and be sad a little. Clearly CIM got lost. Tony tries to be positive–CIM was clearly well-loved if he was played with enough to be misplaced, right?–but it’s hard, because all of the other Avengers are out in plain sight. (He takes a moment to prop Crochet Black Widow into a sitting position. It’s very unladylike and very unassassinlike for her to be flopped over like that.)

Even Black Widow’s still here and you thought Natasha would steal her, the little voice at the back of his mind mutters. Is it even worth it to make another Iron Man if he’s not going to be taken care of? Tony grips the front of his shirt in his hands tightly and tries to force those intrusive thoughts away. CIM was misplaced because he was played with a lot. That was all. He’d show up. …Wouldn’t he?

Tony doesn’t realize he’d said the last part out loud until JARVIS replies Sir, if I may, and projects a screen up in front of him, and he sees Bucky playing with all the dolls, and Tony–Tony is pleased, because he hasn’t really been able to help with Bucky’s therapy in person but he had kind of hoped that the dolls would–

“Thanks for the save, Iron Man,” Bucky says in a high pitched voice, wiggling Crochet Winter Soldier like he’s talking. “You’re the best!” Bucky turns to glance around the living room suspiciously before turning back to the dolls and carefully tapping CIM and CWS’s faces together. “Mwah!”

Tony clutches his chest as he watches Bucky put the dolls back in their regular spots. Bucky hesitates in putting CIM back in his spot on the coffee table before he carefully tucks CIM inside his jacket and he begins the most suspicious walk back to the elevator in the world. Sam is getting off when Bucky is getting on and he makes a joke and Bucky acts so suspiciously as he answers that Sam squints at the doors for several minutes, trying to decide if he needs to go after him.

“Oh,” Tony says, “Well.” There’s a warm feeling deep in his chest.

Friendly Reminder that Dutiful Farseer ‘can crochet better than half the ladies of the court’ thanks to paging for Lady Patience.

Now consider:

- Dutiful crocheting during a quiet evening at an international diplomatic meeting. The Chalcedean delegates staring at him in horror like he’s affronting their masculinity. Dutiful, holding back a smirk, continues to crochet.

- Dutiful and some of the senior nobility getting stuck in a blizzard en route to something. Seeing as they’re stuck where they are for the time being, Dutiful gets out his crochet. By the time Fitz et al arrive to rescue them, there are six nobles and three soldiers attempting to crochet.

- Dutiful crocheting baby toys for Prosper and Integrity.

[  - Elliania, meanwhile, has already given their sons tiny wooden swords and is trying to teach them how to fight]

- All of the royal family end up with little crochet bobble hats.

- Including Fitz

- Beloved joins in and the two of them are crochet buddies forever.

Mental health is such sensitive obstacle I constantly need to be aware of at all times, but life is too finite to let it take control ⏳ Part of what makes me feel defeated sometimes is when my mind puts my body in a chokehold, and I can’t make my own moves; I feel like a pawn in a chess game ⚜️It’s a daily battle to fight for myself, but always worth it. I’ve learned that when my demons are playing my favorite tune, don’t sit and watch the show; get up and dance with them 🎶 Work with what you have, it’s still you. Take the time to talk to your enemy and work together. You have control. Take control. Sometimes it can be easy to feel like a ghost in the machine that is your body, but I promise you, there is so much life to breathe in. I write this with ease, but I still struggle with this often. Art and all of you bring me to life. Thank you for being the reason my socks get rocked off 💕So many of your kind messages have really been making me feel like a thousand bucks, and it means so much that you appreciate my words. Happy Monday, I hope you conquer this week 😊

skye07 replied to your postso i just picked up crocheting so now i’m thinking…

Ohhh how about they create an account where they take pictures of the dolls having adventures kind of what @feelingsinwinter does with Lego, or just tagging along with an avenger.

I dig it. Bonus: It’s just Bucky that does it. Tony has no idea until he’s doing an interview for Teen Vogue and the girl asks about it and he says “What?” And she opens up her Instagram to show him this very popular account called “Sim-Kwiss” (CIMCWS) and there–there’s Crochet Iron Man and Crochet Winter Soldier going on adventures.

“My favorite is when this Preying Mantis crashed the photo shoot and the guy just rolled with it,” she adds, scrolling down to where–CWS is the one being attacked by the preying mantis and saved by CIM. Teen Vogue has a great article plus great pictures of Tony in quiet awe of all these pictures.

(Tony thinks about this for ages. It’s never Iron Man in trouble; it’s always the Winter Soldier being rescued. He wonders what that means, that Iron Man is always saving the Winter Soldier. Bucky is quite good at taking care of himself, especially in battle. He hasn’t brought up that he saw Bucky make them kiss–that, that was private, Bucky didn’t even know he’d seen it. How does he bring this up? Should he? Bucky seems… happier these days. Tony doesn’t want to ruin it, if making CIM and CWS go on adventures is what makes him happy, what makes his shoulders relax.)

((Bucky sees the interview in Teen Vogue (he likes Teen Vogue, he thinks they cover things really well, he wishes more magazines did these things), sees Tony’s quiet awe as he looks through Bucky’s Instagram, and cuts the article and pictures out to put in his special little box that Bruce helped him make when working with his hands was the only thing that made him forget the blood on them. It’s full of articles and interviews with Tony. He keeps CIM in there sometimes too, when he can’t stand himself, can’t trust himself, and doesn’t want to hurt the little doll. The box is a safe place.))

What if Natasha hunts down crochet iron Man cuz she wants to cuddle with it too goddammit

“HE’S HOGGING YOU!” Natasha snaps, bursting into the lab. “He’s hogging you and I WANT TO CUDDLE.”

It says a lot about their relationship that Tony knows exactly what she means. “…Do… do you want me to make you your own Iron Man?”

“…Yes,” Natasha says after a moment, because CIM is in The Box. The Box is Bucky’s safe place. She would have no trouble grabbing CIM from anywhere else but Bucky… Bucky keeps the things he doesn’t want damaged in there, when he’s feeling like he’s pulling apart at the seams.

Tony has a new Iron Man ready for her a few days later.

(Bucky sees Natasha with CIM and feels betrayed for a moment that she’s gotten into The Box. But–this one looks different? The blues aren’t the same? Bucky creeps back to his room and checks The Box. CIM is still there. He sags a little in relief.)
