You should check out Welcome to My Life by Elizabeth Ito! It’s a Cartoon Network short that was just released and it has garnered quite a bit of totally deserved critical praise. It’s like a warm blanket you just wanna wrap yourself up in. I love it!

One of the things that bothers me so much about this Broadway season is that many of Great Comet’ defining aspects were things repeatedly praised in Hamilton only last year, yet they were largely ignored in GC’s production.

Everyone (not just the Broadway tumblr fanbase, I’m also referring to the mainstream media) praised Hamilton for its diversity, and rightfully so. And while Great Comet was not as diverse as Hamilton, its use of racially blind casting should be used as a model for all future productions. Denée Benton, a black woman with natural hair playing a romantic lead of a prominent musical about old Russians, is damn groundbreaking. Oak’s upcoming turn as Pierre proves this commitment to diversity by the show. Yes, Hamilton did this last year, but one show acting in this way does not excuse ignoring others for doing the same.

Everyone praised Hamilton for seamlessly blended together multiple genres of music; again, rightfully so. Great Comet did this to an even greater extent. Dave Malloy’s score beautifully combined seemingly every genre to create a cohesive, genius piece of work. He utilized these different genres to describe his characters so subtly no one realizes he’s doing it. I could take for pages about how his score is a damn masterpiece, but the point lies in that Hamilton was widely praised for doing the very thing Great Comet is being ignored (or even downright criticized) for.

Finally, many praised Lin’s using of an unconventional source material to tell an excellent Broadway musical. But, again, Dave Malloy looking at a tiny sliver of a classic novel and deciding it should be an electropop opera musical? How? He took something so frequently adapted and made it incredibly original in ways many do not realize. It’s quite frustrating to see writers using the War & Peace origins as only an introductory statement instead of the praise it should be.

tl;dr: I’m just really pissed so many people ignore Great Comet’s successes in the very categories they praised Hamilton for okay sorry for the rant

Jordan Peele will executive produce the new series “Lovecraft Country,” which has been ordered straight-to-series at HBO, Variety has confirmed.

Based on the book of the same name by Matt Ruff, the anthology horror series follows 25-year-old Atticus Black, who joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find his missing father.  They must survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.

“Underground” co-creator  and showrunner Misha Green will write and executive produce the series, with Peele executive producing through his Monkeypaw Productions banner.  J.J. Abrams and Ben Stephenson will also executive produce through Bad Robot, with Warner Bros. Television producing.

Peele, who broke out on the Comedy Central series “Key & Peele,” has been in high demand ever since the success of his low-budget horror film “Get Out.”  The film, about a black man who discovers a dark secret at his Caucasian girlfriend’s family estate, has grossed almost $215 million worldwide on a $4.5 million budget.

He recently signed a first-look deal with Universal Pictures based on the success of “Get Out.”  Under the deal, Universal will develop Peele’s next film, an untitled social thriller, which he will write, direct, and produce based on his original idea.  In addition, Peele will also produce a wide range of movies for the studio through Monkeypaw Productions, including several micro-budget projects with Jason Blum, as he did with “Get Out.”

For Green, the new series comes along as the fate of “Underground” remains uncertain.  Despite critical praise, the WGN America show saw a drop in the live-plus-same day ratings during its sophomore season.  In addition, Sinclair Broadcasting recently announced they will acquire WGN parent company Tribune Media, with plans to shift focus away from producing original series.  To that end, WGN recently canceled their other original, “Outsiders,” which enjoyed higher ratings than “Underground.”

In Young Justice: Outsiders, the teenage superheroes of the DC Universe come of age in an animated world of superpowers, super villains and super secrets. In the new season, the team faces its greatest challenge as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.

Praised by critics and DC fans for its impressive visuals and rich storytelling, Young Justice aired for two seasons on Cartoon Network, from 2010-2013, before it was cancelled, triggering a crowdfunding effort to bring it back. The series won a primetime Emmy for Individual Achievement in Animation for Bousassa for the “Independence Day” episode in 2011.

Following months of speculation, Warner Bros Animation last November announced it has begun  production on a third season of all-new episodes. At the time there was no network, with the series testing the marketplace, and was rumored as a possibility for Netflix, which carries the existing two seasons of Young Justice. But Warner Bros decided to run Young Justice: Outsiders on the new DC platform.

Coming in 2018.

Im sitting on the floor of my office with the lights off because I just read my Course Instructor Surveys from last semester, and there were over 100 responses from across my assignments and literally every student…

said NICE things and rated me ‘very good’ or ‘excellent.’ That is not reasonable. At least one person should have disliked me. That’s how the world goes. This is a trap.

And their comments were so awesome and nice.  They talked about how much work I put into reaching each student (aka the most important responsibility of my entire life and I can’t handle being told I did the thing). They are so kind to me and I don’t deserve them for a minute.

…aaaand I’m crying again.

That fucking ‘’Wonder Woman sends a bad message because it tells kids They can expect more quality films from DC lol’’ post pisses me off.

Aside from the fact that it’s a stupid fucking joke just like almost every other snide joke about how DC is so terrible, it plays into something that really fucking annoys me.

I heard people on this website complaining about not having a Wonder Woman film for years. Years. I had to listen to shit about how They were the absolute worst and how Marvel was so much fucking better because They had a fucking talking Raccoon or because Kevin Feige said he might consider a Black Widow film or some shit, about how They were sexist and how if Marvel had Diana, she’d have two films by now (Yeah, how’d that one work out?)

Now DC/WB have made a Wonder Woman film. They made a film with a female lead, doing something that Marvel has failed to do. They made a film that everyone loves. They made a film that’s exactly what Tumblr said They wanted from a WW film. They made a film that critics can’t stop praising to the point where it has a higher RT rating than almost every MCU film and most other CBM’s. They did exactly what everyone on here was saying They needed to do in order to win people over and be seen as worthy and it STILL isn’t fucking good enough for this website.

You know what?

You motherfuckers don’t deserve this film, these characters or this universe.

PLEASE stop posting the white devil emma Watson. PLEASE. I will pay u. I will give u my first born child. Watson has made men a priority in feminism and rewards men for doing the bare minimum. Which is insulting to every gender. She's got some REAL messed up stuff going on.

Look, I’m all for calling out White Feminism at every turn, and I have, but SJblur nitpicking on every white feminist they see and when you start calling them the White Devil coz you don’t fully agree with or misunderstand them, you already lost the argument. She didn’t kill nobody, nor advocated violence on anyone, so take it down several notches.

first of, she’s a UN Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women. Her main job is to use her popularity to give speeches actual experts and professionals on gender equality wrote for her, because if these experts give the same speech, no one will pay attention; but if she does, people will. Same thing that other celebrities do who are tapped to be UN Ambassadors: Angelina Jolie on refugees, George Clooney on South Sudan, Leonardo di Caprio on Climate Change, etc.

No celebrity chosen as UN Goodwill Ambassador are chosen for their expertise in the field, they are chosen because when they speak people pay attention. Those truly invested in the cause will sit on meetings or go on the field when they’re not making a movie, but their role as spokeperson remains. Their words are not their words, most of the time they are basically the executive summaries of UN reports.

Emma Watson’s UN speech was criticized as feminism 101, and it was, but to expect she gives a graduate seminar on feminism with her limited speaking time is imo ludicrous. She’s paid very well but that’s still above her pay grade. The main purpose of her speech was to get attention from the public, generate political will from lawmakers, and fundraise a shit ton of money for the cause.

And via the HeForShe Campaign, she was able to do that very successfully. She got powerful men from President Barack Obama to the President of Seira Leonne to not just make a commitment to gender equality but have their governments actually invest in gender equality programs in their own countries and/or give more foreign aid to women’s empowerment programs.

you know it’s possible to criticize nerd culture without praising/romanticizing jock culture right

like the whole crux of any worthwhile criticism of nerd culture is questioning that those are like, The Only Two Ways A Dude Can Be, that dudes gotta choose either football or warhammer 40k, either IRL hypermasc posturing or pretend fantasy hypermasc posturing

like the criticism should be “nerd culture actually is rife with many of the negative qualities of the sports community which it supposedly eschews” and not “jocks are good, actually,”

bad ending: Yakuza 0 goes unnoticed or is poorly received and the series fades into obscurity once again. future localizations are either outright cancelled, or nothing ever comes of them

normal ending: Yakuza 0 receives praise from critics. it’s not enough to put the series on the radar, but it remains a loved, niche series with localizations continued

true ending: everyone playing Yakuza 0 immediately awards it game of the year as they should because this happens

Friendly Reminder: The critics might praise Wonder Woman but if we don’t show up it won’t mean a thing!

Go see the movie.

Don’t like action movies? Stare at Chris Pine/Gal Gadot (whatever your preference) for the whole movie (Robin Wright anyone?)

Not into that? Cool, it also has some awesome historical designs that will make the history buff in you excited.

Critic Michael Phillips of The Chicago Tribune went as far as to say that “Jenkins and her design team make 1918-era London; war-torn Belgium; the Ottoman Empire; and other locales look freshly realized, with a strong point of view”

Hate History? take that annoying sibling/ parent/ friend/ neighbor who will enjoy it and suffer through because you are THAT great and just imagine the debt they shall now owe you.

No one you know wants to see it? Go see it anyway and write a blog about how you went as a statement piece.

This is important, and if you want to see future female superhero/antihero projects (Supergirl, Batwoman, Birds of Prey etc.) we all need to show up and bring whoever else we can to ensure that the film’s earnings reflect its critical acclaim.
