It’s been just over a year since the Department of Awesome Anamorphic Artwork first discovered the experimental 3D calligraphy of Istanbul-based graphic designer and electrical engineer Tolga Girgin. Since then, in addition to defying gravity and dancing across the paper in various way, Girin’s amazing letters have been imbued the characteristics of animals and inanimate objects, learned to intertwine with the lines on ruled paper, and even suspend themselves between opposing side of folded paper cards:

To check out more of his enchanted letterforms follow Tolga Girin on Instagram, where he also posts process videos, or check out his Behance portfolio.

All artists and activists can learn from the way Beyonce switches seamlessly from commercial pop to avant-garde political. It’s because she does the former that she has the platform to make people pay attention when she does the latter. And more important, you don’t have to just choose one stream. You can play in and leverage them all.

Had a couple of followers ask to see photos of my art room where I do my Blacklist fanart and videos (and also regular non Blacklist related art too lol) so figured I’d post them…

Small room (used to be a laundry room) painted all white, mostly repurposed pieces, Ikea wire curtain lines for hanging art, Ikea desk(s), boxes, file organizer, and floating shelf, reupholster yardsale reading chair and matching ottoman (thanks grandma!!!), $20 walmart rug, $20 Craigslist painting easel, tv monitor that hooks up to my computer screen, homemade curtains (thanks mom!!!), wire laundry shelves, an old painted medicine cabinet (doors removed) with orange spray painted containers for art supplies (yes, those are soda cans holding my pencils)…

Oh, and a family sheepskin rug that my cats LOVE to lay on :)

Favorite items… Micron drawing pens, Prisma colored pencils and markers, Derwent drawing pencils, iMac desktop computer, Macbook Pro laptop, Wacom digital drawing tablet, Bluetooth wireless headphones

So welcome to my calm, quiet, cozy sanctuary where I get to be creative!!!  And for those who say you’re either right or left brained… I’m living proof you can be BOTH!!! Creative artist side with a touch of OCD ;-)

Btw… see any familiar faces in the photos?  There’s more than a couple “Reds” up there lol

Love my new journal. In the back there is a cool blurb about where the design originated. The cover features a tendril motif which was reproduced from a 1688 binding. The journal was far too affordable too assume traditional bookbinding techniques were used but it is still beautiful. Hoping I will feel inspired to do much writing and perhaps find the creative spark once more.
