Why Commenting On FanFiction Is Important

Alright kids, Boo here with a hopefully non-arrogant PSA.

I’m a writer of FanFiction because I like it and it’s my preferred genre (also a great way to receive feedback on writing that I can use on originals, bref). But like with most artistic work posted online, I have very little feedback.

When I was in a slightly writing rut, I cranked one shots left and right, nothing out of the ordinary. But instead of people commenting with their thoughts and good feedback, they just gave me requests.

I don’t think I could ever put into words what that felt like, but I’ll try (the irony of being a writer). It suddenly felt tiring, being a writer, and very quickly I stopped writing altogether. I only ever showed my friend what I wrote and left it at that. I haven’t published anything for a while after. It felt like people were treating me like a mule wanting me to do work for them, and I just wasn’t up for that. I lost my will to write, and then I began to think, “If I post something else other than what was requested, will people even read it?”

Then you get the infamous comments, “You haven’t forgotten about my request right??? Here’s another.”

That just adds anxiety and guilt. I’m purposely ignoring the comments to save my own uncreative ass, at least that’s what it feels like.

After weeks of convincing myself that my stories are worth sharing no matter how many people read them, I started writing and publishing again while working on some longer pieces. Slowly it got better.

Now this week, I remembered I joined another fanfiction platform, and realized I had never published anything on it. I had an idea, and so I started writing. It didn’t come out as I imagined it would, but I was so proud? Like, I started feeling happy about what I created again. Like genuine happiness that I haven’t felt in months since my last published work.

A few hours later, I get this comment:

I cranked out three 3k stories after reading this.

In four days.

It never happened before, and I don’t know how many times it will happen again. It was one comment, but it gave me so much fighting spirit that I think I’m on my way to regaining my initial writer mindset.

Fanfiction writers depend on feedback as a validation that their stories matter to people. If you’re wondering why your favourite author hasn’t updated/posted in a while, ask yourself, “Did I do everything that would convince them to continue writing this?”

Assassin!Harry (Part 1)

Harry is a trained, experienced assassin hired to kill Y/N but ends up, to his horror, starting to fall for her.

He may be human, but he operates like a machine: identify target, plan, stalk, kill, collect cash, repeat. What one may consider sociopathic or psychopathic personality traits, Harry considers a blessing. After all, it is his lack of regard for human emotions and his own conscience that has made his career possible. The only proof he has that he is not, in fact, heartless is when he feels his pulse throbbing in his neck as he sprints between alleyways, hops fences, climbs walls, desperately trying to escape any chance of pursuit after the murder is done. Although pursuit is something with which Harry has become unfamiliar; he dealt with it in his career’s infancy, but as he has grown so have his skills. His eye for quick, accessible escape routes has grown keener, his aim tighter, and his remorse…well, nonexistent. He works alone, and he prefers it this way, but his work is so precise that many law enforcement officials cannot accept the possibility of the unidentified murderer being just a “murderer” instead of “murderers.” He’s lost track of how many kills he has made, yet, amazingly, he has yet to be caught or even identified. Nobody has ever suspected him of anything due to his brilliant planning, charming exterior, and cunning way with words; he comes off as a sweet, regular guy. All of this, coupled with the fact that he truly is heartless in the figurative sense of the word, makes Harry Styles the most successful, feared assassin on the planet. He never gets off track, never gets caught, and–most importantly–never misses. So, when he woke up and saw the folded yellow envelope lying on the floor under the windowsill of his first-floor, high-class apartment, it was just a normal day for Harry. He receives one to two requests every month, and as screwed up as it is, he can’t help but feel a rush of excitement whenever he wakes up to an envelope lying crisp and unopened on his tiled floor.

Harry picked up the folder, heavy with cash, and opened it to reveal 5 crisp stacks of 100 $100 bills each. Assassinations don’t come cheap, and Harry prioritizes the higher-paying customers. In other words, the sooner you want someone dead, the more money you should be willing to shell out. $50,000 isn’t much compared to most of his other offers, but because Harry wasn’t planning any other kills, he decided to go about prioritizing the operation. He flipped through the information, identifying the twenty year old college student that he was supposed to kill. He laid out the three included photographs of the girl and identified her address on a map. He read through her daily schedule, put together by the unnamed person who had hired him, and went about identifying the lowest-risk time to pursue and kill her. He ventured into the depths of his expansive closet, retrieving the black duffel bag that contained his gloves, his attire, his shoes, his ammunition, and his small, silver handgun as well as his perfectly sharpened steel knife. He never uses both the gun and the knife in one killing; he just likes the option. He grabbed the roll of heavy duty black tape from the bag and went about taping the bottoms of his shoes so that the patterns they would normally leave behind were masked. He put the bag by his front door and went about his day, eagerly anticipating nightfall.

“You okay Newt?” You asked the blonde after you shot the crank who had attacked him. Newt stared at you with wide eyes.

“You just saved my bloody life”.

“Duh. What was I suppose to do? Let you die” you helped him to his feet since he had been knocked on to the ground.

“I’ve got to admit. I didn’t really trust you until now”.

You raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t know if I should be offended or not. Nice to know I finally gained your trust though”.

20cc’s straight to the head.

@jayjay419 allowed me to ‘doctor’ his first ever jug-shot, which went very smooth. There’s a point in which I say “got it”. I was so relieved when it registered, which happens at 0:02 into the clip.

I would not recommend doing this at home. It is dangerous and, if done incorrectly, could potentially be fatal. It is better not to take the risk.

Quote from The Scorch Trial, pg. 233

You would never know how much I love this scene

Minho beating up the crap out of the Crank who just shot Thomas(and Newt taking care of him)

I mean TST has INTENSE thominho scenes in every 5-10 pages(or even more). Sometimes I wonder how Minho has come to trust and admire Thomas so much in such a short period of time. They didn’t even spend a year together, maybe not even few months. Thinking that Thomas was separated from them quite a time, it is really somewhat amazing how Thominho has built such a strong bond between them.

Awkward Meetings Lead to Strong Feelings.

Anonymous asked: I love your blog!! If requests are still open, can I request a Bucky Barnesxreader? Maybe the reader has ice or fire powers and they accidentally use them on Bucky the first time they meet? You can take it wherever after that but lots of fluff please and maybe a little romance? Thanks

I do not own Bucky Barnes or Steve Rogers. They are property of Marvel.

Warnings: awkward Bucky fluff

Pairings: Bucky Barnes x reader, mentions of Steve

You were wringing your hands when the elevator came to a stop. Steve Rogers, a.k.a Captain America, gave you a reassuring smile as he escorted you through Avengers Tower. With the help of Black Widow and the Falcon, Steve had rescued you from the HYDRA where they had been experimenting on you. “Are you sure about this,  Captain?” you asked nervously. You had no control over these powers of yours and it frightened you.

Steve replied, “Absolutely. And call me Steve. Just breath and be yourself, Y/N.” You nodded as the elevator dinged, announcing your arrival. Several pairs of eyes turned your way when you entered the room with Steve. “Guys, this is Y/N.” Steve explained that he had offered to train you and that you would have a room at the tower as long as you wanted.

You were soon being greeted by the rather large group of people, but you noticed that one man stayed off to the side. He was staring intently at you with his bright blue eyes. After the crowd dispersed, you took a deep breath. Before you could say anything else, you felt a tap on your shoulder that startled you. You jumped, turned and your powers made themselves known as your ice froze the metal arm of the blue-eyed stranger.

"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!“ you exclaimed. You looked up at his face, saw the shock there and ran from the room. That was what you had been worried about. Losing control. "Hey, hold on!” you heard from behind you. You turned and found your blue-eyed man running up to you, the ice melting as he ran. “I’m really sorry. I can’t always control it,” you said. You hated hearing the weakness in your own voice. “It’s alright, really. If anyone here understands losing control, it’s me. I’m Bucky.”

You took a moment to look at his face. His eyes sparkled as he looked at you. His lips were slightly upturned in a smirk. “I’m Y/N,” you replied then mentally face palmed. “You already knew that. I’m really bad at this.” Bucky laughed with you. “I am too. I know you’re here to train with Steve, but how about you and I go grab lunch?” For some reason, you felt comfortable with Bucky so you readily agreed. It was the first lunch of many.

You and Bucky became fast friends. You spent every moment together as you could. You could even anticipate each other’s moves so Steve often paired you up on missions. To make a long story short, Bucky was one of your best friends. He was the only one that understood how frightened you were of losing control and you were one of the only people that Bucky trusted.

Currently, you were in the kitchen baking an apple pie for Steve. “Hey, Doll. It smells great in here,” Bucky commented when he entered the kitchen. You flashed him a smile and turned back to the apples. Bucky sat at the counter for a minute, but then started pacing. That’s how you knew there was something on his mind. He always paced when something was bothering him. “What’s up, Buck?” He didn’t say anything. Just gave you a look and continued pacing.

Unfortunately, the one time that Bucky wasn’t paying attention was the one time Tony’s robotic vacuum  was making its daily rounds. He tripped over it and cursed loudly. “Language!” Steve called from the room across the hall causing you to laugh. Bucky wasn’t laughing and you glanced down at him. He was gazing up at you with fear in his eyes. “Bucky, what is it?” He  stood up and brushed himself off. “It’s nothing. Forget about it,” he said. He started to leave the room.

"James Buchanan Barnes! You get back here and tell me what the heck is going on with you,“ you cried. He turned back to you and you softened your tone. "Bucky, please tell me what’s going on.” Bucky came back over to you and held your gaze. “It’s just been a long time since I felt like this. I really like you, Y/N. Probably more than I should,” he said so softly you could barely hear him. Without a second thought, you wrapped your arms around his waist. “I like you too, Buck.”

(a/n: Here is your request, anon. I needed some fluff so thanks for the request. I’m cranking out one-shots quickly while I’m on vacation.)
