Sisters of Mercy - Walk Away (1984)

Another flawless single from the first Sisters line up. “Poison Door” and “On the Wire” are as important as the A-Side, and the latter sounds like something straight off the Reptile House EP.

Eldritch’s admittedly unimpressive drum duties were permanently taken over by a Boss DR-55 drum machine, lovingly referred to as “Doktor Avalanche”. A fellow Motorhead and Suicide enthusiast Andrew met in a bar, Mr. Craig Addams, was called in to play bass and to contribute his higher pitched voice for back up vocals in contrast to Andrew’s brooding ‘Frankenstein’ timbre. Andrew would now be in charge of programming the Doktor and producing the records, leading to him taking over the whole fucking band and running it like a dictatorship.

These new changes would play an enormous part in establishing not only the band’s future sound but the sound that would define countless 3rd wave goth bands from 1990 to 2009 (ie. from Rosetta Stone, House of Usher to Elusive and Blacklist).
