craft kids

So this morning I was talking to @ithilienbjd about a hamster I made a few years ago out of pipe cleaner fuzzies (I covered a pet-shaped plastic base in glue then added fuzz I shaved off of pipe cleaners to it).

Anyway, I don’t think I’ve shared these photos on Tumblr before so… ta-da! I also made the cage and pet accessories. The cage is a plastic tub originally for herbs that I poked holes in, the water is a clear pen cap filled with hot glue and a paper clip tip, the “wheel” is cut from a hair roller, and the food dish is a small button filled with tiny beads.

Shopkins Yo-Chi White Chocolate Mousse

Yields 12 cups

The things you’ll need

  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 packet gelatin
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • 3 ½ cups white chocolate
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Mint for garnish
  • Small pot
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatula
  • Medium bowl
  • Hand mixer with whish attachment
  • Spoons
  • Decorating bag fitted with a large open star tip
  • Cutting board & knfie
  • Paint pens
  • Blue paper cups
  • Yo-Chi template

Let’s get started!

  1. Mix gelatin and cold water and then set aside, allowing it to bloom.
  2. In a small pot, mix together 1 cup of cream, butter, yogurt, and vanilla. Bring to a scald and then mix bloomed gelatin.
  3. Place white chocolate in a large bowl and then pour the hot cream over it. Allow the chocolate to melt for 3 minutes and then wisk until smooth.
  4. Pour in 3 cups of cream and whisk until well combined. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 12 hours.

Time to decorate!

  1. Meanwhile, use paint pens to decorate blue paper cups to look like Yo-Chi (optional). If you would rather use a template you can print out as many as you need and then wrap one around each blue cup.
  2. Once chilled, use a hand mixer to whip the mousse until it is light and fluffy.
  3. Fill each cup with chopped and then use an open star tip to pipe mouse over the fruit.
  4. Decorate with fresh fruit and a garnish of mint.
  5. TaDa! A Shopkins Yo-Chi sweet enough to eat!
