courage to resist

a town that pushes against the storm

i opened the door to the freezer and just stood there
staring in at all of the food until it began to thaw
and with the cold air billowing out into a warm room
i thought about calling out into an empty house
to ask if you wanted to do something easy for dinner

if i’ve learned anything it’s that you
don’t always need the courage to move forward
just the resistance to turn back
and the composure to remain still
even when the air is cold

i want to stand like a monolith at the center of
a town that pushes against the storm
or anything that distracts me from the fact
that there’s still food in my freezer
that belongs to you

but i don’t think i want it to change
i want it to continue to exist as
the preservation of an era
the remnants of a life
that we used to live
anything to remind me
that it happened
and that it was good

2016 took so much from the world
i’m sorry that we too
got swept away in its tide

Resistances and Dalliances

Chapter 1: Stormy Skies

“You did what?” Evfra demanded, leaning fists onto his table as he loomed over it towards Ryder. Aya’s peaceful, bright sky seemed entirely out of place behind that dark expression, just a hair’s breath away from throttling her, she was sure. He had sent everyone out reluctantly at her request, but seeing his face she wasn’t sure if it had been prudent after all. Private matter or no, she wanted witnesses around her suddenly with him in that mood.

Post-run vegging. I did ~1.75 miles + back and biceps for the first day of Navy-Air Force Half training. Starting a bit early but technically I’m 10K training first and then starting the half plan in June, but it all builds on each other! Really hoping for a great race. I’d love to break 2 hours but I doubt I’ll hit it after this much time off of real distance training.

ALSO check out this book I’m high-key obsessed with (is that a thing?) if you like learning about nuclear weapons, science, history, the military, morality and/or ridiculous stories about successfully breaking into a nuclear facility in Tennessee. All true.
Tackling sexual assault

Ahh people in my sexual assault law class. They just don’t really get it because they’ve never actually experienced it.

You have to start socializing boys to respect and view women as human at a young age. But with porn being so rampant, how do you do this? This girl in my class said that was a “flowery” idea. So then what do we do with today’s generations? Toss them all in jail? Do anti-rape posters really help?

Men who rape know it’s wrong - they just don’t care. They don’t respect women and I don’t believe you can really change them. I can’t see my perp being “rehabilitated” into thinking women deserve respect. Maybe the only way they won’t rape is if they know they could get in trouble for it and if women were actually believed when they reported it. For a rapist it’s worth the risk - they feel entitled to sex and women’s bodies and don’t think they will actually face the consequences.

But there is a grey area- of women being coerced or pressured until they say yes…girls who say yes because they don’t feel like they can put their foot down and say no. What about those girls? I think that goes to socialization. We are socialized into being accommodating from the time we are children. Men are taught to go get what they want and not take no for the answer. There is a power imbalance - we feel pressured to give in to assertive men. I believe we need to be empowered with the tools to say NO to hookups we don’t actually want. Then, if he still rapes us- we still did what we could and it will never be our fault. Then it’s a crime.

I wish I had been raised to be more assertive. These are tools women need. This is not a “flowery” idea. I’ve had many guys throughout my uni years pressuring me into hooking up and sometimes I didn’t have the courage to keep resisting. I didn’t feel the confidence to assert myself and leave. I didn’t want to feel that I “misled” the guy after we had been flirting for a long time. Of course that wouldn’t be considered rape under the law, right? So, what then??

Poster Boy [Chapter 1] - Poe Dameron x Reader

A/N: Inspired by that page in the Star Wars Propaganda book 👀 ( ). Also a bit by the Rouge One VR thing on Playstation. Also I didn’t mean for this to be multichapter story but?? It just sorta happened?? Whoops.

I remember how I stood in line with the numerous other recruits, dressed in the iconic orange coveralls, hands folded behind our backs. Finally, I had gathered the courage to join the Resistance, to fight, to fly. General Organa herself had looked each of us up and down, silently judging us, seeing for the first time what we could be capable of. Since then we’d come far. We’d long since completed training and began to make a name for ourselves at the main base.
