country born

“when connie is president what will that make me? first boy?”

honestly I think that might be my favorite (non-singing) line in all of steven universe because it makes my imagine the craziest/best presidential term in U.S. history.

“Mr. Universe, many republicans are claiming that your birth certificate was faked and that you are an illegal alien. What would you say to these allegations?”

“Well definitely not illegal, but I am an alien.”

“you were born outside of the country?”

“no, I was born here”

“then how are you an alien?”

“I mean a literal alien, from outer space. My mother and guardians are all aliens.”

“I’m sorry, what?”

“Well I’m half alien anyway. I thought we made that clear from early on in the campaign?”

(conspiracy theorists have a field day)

“Madam President, why is your husband carrying a huge crystal disc out onto the white house lawn?”

“oh, that’s a warp pad, It lets Gems travel around”

“Isn’t that a security issue?”

“Well only gems can use it, and the only gems on the planet right now are friendly”

(the secret service has their work cut out for them)

and then theres other things- like the time the president and her husband combined into one person at a state dinner. Or how the president is ridiculously badass with a sword. Or how the fist gentleman has five (or possibly six?) adoptive mothers. Or that time the president, her husband, and an insane eldritch monstrosity defended Washington DC from an alien spaceship. (approval ratings skyrocketed)

what I’m saying is: Take some time to imagine the shenanigans President Maheswaran would get up too. It will not disappoint.

I condemn the Muslim ban. I am Australian, I would never have the life I have now if I hadn’t been welcomed into this country. Why should someone’s religion or the country they were born in prevent them from having the same opportunities that I have been lucky enough to have. I don’t care what side of the political fence you are on, this ban goes against everything that the United States of America was built on and stands for.

Just so we’re clear.

I’m not here for white tears about the fact that y'all can’t have white pride without being seen as racist. I know some people haven’t opened a history book in the last decade, but that doesn’t make the historical context of it go away.

Whiteness is a construct made specifically to oppress non-whites. And yes, some Europeans weren’t considered white, like the Irish. But guess what? They assimilated to whiteness. Today in the United States, they are considered white and they reap the benefits of whiteness. There are no longer “Irish Need Not Apply” signs in businesses. Gingers are not oppressed for their hair color. “Leprechaun” is not equivalent to the n-word or slurs hurled at Latinxs or other POC. Saying you have “white pride” is literally saying that you are proud of your oppressor status.

You can have your German pride, your Irish pride, your French pride. Those are nationalities, not races. This means that Irish/German/French Pride is NOT the same as White Pride. There are Black Irish, Black Germans, Black French, who could all have pride in the country they are born in. They may be a small percentage of those populations, but they still exist. Erasing them is an act of racism, point blank.

White Pride is the precursor to violence against non-white people. That is the historical context we have today. If I’m out and about and I hear someone shouting “White Pride!” I have to worry about my safety. White Pride rallies call for violence against Black people, Jewish people, Latinx people (and even if they are just saying “Mexican,” you know they’re talking about all of us), Asian people.. basically if you’re not white, they want you gone. And whether that’s voluntarily or by force, they don’t care. hell, I know some of them would love to try and violently force us out.

This is not the case for Black/Latinx Pride.

Black/Latinx Pride rallies don’t lead up to violence against whites. We are showing pride in our cultures, which white people have tried over and over to destroy or steal. We are showing pride in ourselves and our families and our ancestors for making it. For surviving the violence that has etched our history. We are showing that we still love ourselves despite being taught that we should be ashamed.

It’s not the same.

Like at all.

And saying so, quite frankly, is racist as fuck.

So is coming to a person of color, a person who would be targeted by the neo nazis at UVA, with tears because saying that “white pride” is equivalent to “”“pale shaming”“”“ which is not a thing, but that’s a whoLe ‘nother argument.

Unbelievable that this has to be explained.

…and brought the water with him like a hungry flood, devouring all that wasn’t yet his.

My favorite theme for Gilbert remains water. Prussia, the country born along the Baltic sea.
Vague context here is the battle of Waterloo, Gilbert’s uniform is based on the uniform Blücher is depicted with. The Iron Cross was introduced in 1813 in honor of the late Queen Luise. It was established on her birthday.

I think based on the fact that the Daroga also knows Erik as Erik and they go way back it’s more likely it is his real name. But since he told Christine he had taken the name Erik “on accident” I personally think he might have used that alias since a long time. Maybe even since a young age because he doesn’t know what his actual name, the one he was given at birth, is. Which would make his statement still true, even though Erik is at that point basically his real name.

Proud to be who i am. Proud of my body. Proud of my tattoos. Proud of where i come from. Proud of my struggles. Proud of what i’ve been through. Proud of both my internal and external scars. Proud to speak my mind. Proud that i never cower to anyone. Proud i can handle myself. Proud to eat a steak when the world is eating salad. Proud to be different. Proud to be strong. Proud to never stay down. Proud to have no fear. Proud to trust in the lord. Proud to be a cowgirl.

anonymous asked:

what does Chalo's full name mean?

“Chalo” is the Malawian-ization of Charlie, “Chalosi” is the Malawian-ization of Charles, “Chambezi” is the Malawian-ization of my last name, and the leg bone’s connected to the hip bone, the hip bone’s connected to the back bone, etc.

His full name is Astronaut Chalosi Chambezi Esq., MFA, because he’s an aerospace lawyer with a degree in poetry.
