Author’s Note: I wrote this a while ago for a friend of mine. I hope you like it! Feedback is appreciated - I’d love to know what you think about it!

You wake up to the sound of your cell phone ringing and groan inwardly. Getting calls his early in the morning is never a good sign. You grab your phone from the nightstand and accept the call.

“Agent Coulson?” You mumble, sleep clear in your voice.

You grew up with your mother in Brooklyn and were recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. when your were fifteen. After the events in New York and your father’s death your Godfather and Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nicholas J. Fury, suggested that you join the Avengers initiative.

“Agent Coulson.” You’re not surprised when you recognize his voice. Fury is the only one that calls at this ungodly hour. “I need you to come in right away.”

“I’m on my way, Sir.” Ending the call you bury your head back in your pillow, suppressing an annoyed groan. It’s not that you’re not used to getting up this early, but this particular morning you’d rather stay in bed. Steve and you rarely get to spend the night together due to missions and the fact that nobody, except your best friend, knows about you two.

You gently remove his arm from around your waist, trying to get up without disturbing him, and slip out from under the covers. Before you can move even another inch he grabs your waist and pulls you back against his chest. “Where are you going?” He mumbles into his pillow.

“Work.” Turning around in his arms you lean down and quickly kiss his cheek before trying to get up a second time. “I’ll see you tonight, Captain.” Actually making it out of bed this time you grab your things and quietly leave his room, heading to your own room to get ready.

Thirty minutes later you arrive at the Triskelion and head straight to Fury’s office. “Y/N!” You turn around to see your best friend and colleague, Agent Tamara Lopez, heading towards you. Tamara is an amazing Agent and the best friend anyone could ask for. You hated each other when you first met, but after working together for a while you realized you actually made a great team. She saved your ass more times than you’d like to admit.

“You heading to Fury’s?”

You nod, accepting the coffee cup she’s holding out to you. “I’m guessing you’re coming?”

“Always am.” She teases, smiling like an idiot. You say these exact same words to Steve every time he tells you to be careful when you’re going on missions without him and the other Avengers.

“Don’t even get me started.” You sigh, thinking about Steve in his warm bed. It’s hard sometimes, but those are the lives you both chose.

“I get it. You were with him this morning, weren’t you?” You don’t even have to say anything for her to know that she’s right. Sometimes you wonder if she knows you better than you know yourself.

Arriving at Fury’s office you knock on the door once and wait for his response. “Come in.” Taking another sip from your coffee you open the door and step inside, Tamara hot on your heels.

“Agent Coulson. Agent Lopez. Take a seat.”

“Director Fury.” Even though he’s practically family to you at the office you still call him by his title. Fury gives you details about your next mission. You’re going to gather information about Hydra, recovering data from an abandoned location.

“You’re leaving in an hour.” Fury explains. “Coulson you’re going in alone. The less people know about this the better. Agent Lopez is going to fly you out.” With a single nod you’re dismissed. You know why he chose the two of you for this mission. He can trust you like no other Agent. You’ve been on missions like this several times before. Usually they’re very simple. You go in, you gather your intel, you get out.

Two hours later you’re on a quinjet, awaiting your arrival at the abandoned Hydra base. “We’re touching down in five.” Tamara yells from the front of the yet. “You ready?”

“Always am.”

Finishing copying the files you grab the flash drive and make your way back to the yet. You run down a hallway on the east side of the building when suddenly a big metal door at the end of the corridor opens, revealing at least ten Hydra soldiers.

You grab your gun from your holster and open fire without hesitation. You take down eight of them before you suddenly feel a searing pain in your left shoulder. Cursing you round a corner and lean against the wall for support, trying to catch your breath.

“Y/N, we got incoming.” Tamara informs through the intercoms. “Incoming already came in!” You yell back, carefully checking the other hallway.

“Head to the exit on the north side of the building. I’m waiting for you there.” Tamara instructs. Leaning your head against the wall you close your eyes for a few seconds and take a deep breath, fighting the pain in your shoulder.

With one last look over your shoulder you start running again, heading to the exit as fast as you can. Minutes later you reach the jet, boarding it without stopping.

“Dammit, Y/N!” Tamara curses as soon as the ramp closes behind you, setting the jet on auto-pilot.

Siting down in the back you take off your jacket to inspect the wound. “Son of a-” You hiss in pain as you slowly remove the blood soaked fabric from your shoulder. Tamara whistles as she makes her way over to you. “Damn.”

You glare at her. “It’s not my fault that I got shot. The base was supposed to be abandoned.” Whoever provided that information is so going to get an earful from you later. Even you couldn’t have seen this coming. “Just get it out.” You snap at your best friend, utterly frustrated.

Inspecting the wound she shakes her head. “I don’t think I should. Let Banner take care of it once we’re back at HQ.” Nodding your head you lie down on the seats and close your eyes. Steve is going to be furious. He hates it when you go on missions without him and he’s going to have Fury’s head when he finds out he send you in alone.

Tamara puts a makeshift bandage on the wound to stop the bleeding before she sits down next to you. “He’s going to kill you.” You don’t even have to ask who she’s talking about. “And then he’s going to kill me too.”

“I know.” You mumble, knowing it won’t be pretty.

After you arrive at HQ Tamara insists on taking you to Bruce herself, but of course you wave her off and tell her to can it. “I’m a big girl. I can go see the green doctor myself.”

“Tiny flesh wound. Nothing more.” You yell over your good shoulder as you leave the jet and head down to the infirmary, carefully putting pressure on your wound.

Halfway there you suddenly feel light headed and lean against the wall for support. You must have lost more blood than you thought. Taking a deep breath you try to fight the dizziness washing over you.

“Hey, are you alright?” You look up to see Agent Aaron Taylor approaching you with fast steps. “Yeah, I’m-” He catches you as you collapse.

“Somebody get Dr. Banner!” He yells at the top of his lungs. “I got an Agent down!” He carefully lies you down on the floor, trying to get you to stay awake. The last thing you hear is an all too familiar voice call your name.

Steve walks out the conference room, talking to Agent Carter, when he sees Agent Taylor kneeling on the floor next to another, apparently wounded, Agent. “What the hell is going on?” Sharon asks, trying to get a better look at the situation.

“Somebody get Dr. Banner!” Agent Taylor yells, supporting the Agent on the floor. “I got an Agent down!“ Getting a closer look at the young woman on the floor Steve recognizes you immediately. Y/N.

“Y/N?” He sprints down the hallway towards the woman the loves without hesitation, not caring about the eyes following his every step. Steve falls to his knees beside you, pushing Agent Taylor out of the way. “Y/N?” Gently tapping your face he tries to get you to respond to him. Nothing. “What happened?” He turns to look at the Agent now standing behind him, worry flooding his entire being.

“I don’t know. I barley caught her in time before she collapsed. But it looks like she caught herself a bullet to the shoulder.”

Steve looks at your shoulder. Bullet wound. He carefully picks you up and carries you down to the infirmary, holding you close to his chest.

After carrying you to the infirmary and making Bruce promise to call as soon as you're awake, Steve heads straight to Fury’s office to find out what the hell happened. Reaching the director’s office he doesn’t even bother to knock. Throwing the door open, causing it to crash against the inside wall, he walks straight in, finding a concerned looking Fury and Agent Lopez sitting at Fury’s desk.

“Rogers!” Fury clearly didn’t expect such an unannounced and rather forceful entrance into his office. “We’re in a private meeting here.”

“Oh no.” Tamara whispers to herself, already suspecting why Steve is here. You’re worse than you looked on the jet.

“Oh great.” Steve crosses his arms in front of him. “Is it about Y/N? Because I’d love to know why my girl collapsed in the hallway with a bullet in her shoulder!”

Summary: Maria Hill is required to enter secretive information into shield’s files

Authors Note: In all the marvel movies they do a post credit scene that provides information and often sets up a sequel, I thought it would be cool to apply the same concept to a piece of writing. So here it is. If the print on the file is too small, just message me and I’ll send you a transcript

Again, thank you so much for following this story, I hope you all enjoyed it, and I hope you are excited for Live Wire: An Aftershocks Sequel. “Commander Hill, I apologize, we were not notified of your arrival.” An agent moves hurriedly beside Maria, trying to match her long strides as she makes her way quickly through the bowels of the hub. “That’s because you did not need to know.” Maria huffs, paying little attention to the Agent panting beside her. “My business here is of no concern to you.”

She turns quickly, rolling her eyes at the Agent still jogging beside her, “Commander Hill, I mean no disrespect, but there are still protocols in place…” “I understand the protocols Anderson, I just don’t find them necessary at this point. I am here under direct orders from Director Coulson, concerning the Avengers Initiative. Now,” She huffs, spinning on her heel and coming to a halt in front of Agent Anderson, forcing him to stop abruptly or bump into her “Will you kindly leave me to my assignment or have you suddenly been upgraded to level 8 since last I saw you at level 4 training?”

Anderson blushes and nods his head, backing away. “My apologies Commander, of course.” Maria continues down the hall, coming to stop before a guarded door on the third sub level, she nods to the guards as she swipes her identification card, opening the steel door, allowing her passage. She makes her way to a file cabinet at the back of the fifth row, pulling a piece of paper from her folder as she does so.

She glances once more at the report designed by her and Director Coulson only nights prior. She sighs as she enters it in to a manila folder, placing it back in the filing cabinet and locking it. Maria sighs heavily, shaking her head slowly as she retreats back out the steel door, allowing the room to seal behind her.

Part Three

Everyone was yelling.

Elena couldn’t understand any of them as she nearly blacked out from the overwhelming amount of pain she was picking up.

Fury was calling to Hill, trying to get ahold of the situation.

“Coulson, initiate defensive lockdown in the detention section, then get to the armory.” He looked over at Elena. “Agent Brandy, head to isolation, now!”

She shook the fog from her mind.

“No, let me help! I’m coming with you either way.”

The director muttered under his breath but didn’t try to stop her.

You, Tony and Steve soon separated to get ready. You ran to the bridge to see what was going on.

“Hill!” You heard Fury call through the comm.

“External denotation,” Maria replied. “Number three engine is down.”

You entered the bridge and saw all the agents frantically running here and there to see who invaded and the extend of the damage.

You followed Maria to one of the agents who said, “Turbine looks mostly intact but it’s impossible to get out there to make repairs while we’re in the air.”

“If we lose one more engine, we won’t be,” Agent Hill said slowly as she straightened up, looking at you.

You nodded and walked away, pressing your fingers against your comm. “Somebody’s got to get outside and patch that engine.”

“Stark, you copy that?” Fury asked through the earpiece when he heard your announcement.

“I’m on it,” Tony replied.

“Coulson, initiate defensive lockdown in the detention section then get to the armoury,” Nick ordered as you saw Coulson striding off to do what was needed. “Romanoff?”

  • May spit out the coffee that Coulson gave her. She initially thought that it was tea.
  • He can actually beat Melinda in a match.
  • Phil forced Melinda once to stay in bed because she was too sick to go to class.
  • They had a huge fight that resulted to a prank war. They almost gave Fury an aneurysm.
  • Phil was so scared of Mrs. May but Melinda didn’t tell him that her mom actually liked him.
  • Phil’s mom died believing that Melinda was the right girl for her son.
  • He kissed her several times on the forehead or cheek whenever she falls asleep beside him.
  • She was faking to be asleep because she secretly loved it when he does that.
  • When people started to refer to them as a couple, they didn’t correct them that they were just bestfriends.
  • They were like the FitzSimmons of Operations.

Avengers Initiative

There was an idea, Stark knows this, called The Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could.

martotheavenger  asked:

Coulson becoming the head of SHIELD: from storyline's point of view, he is the only possible option. The show was always about him struggling, him being an idealist and a leader, shouting "We are not agents of nothings, we are agents of SHIELD and that carries weight!" Maria, Sharon and Victoria have been leaders of SHIELD in the comics, but it wouldn't make any sense for the show to put them ahead of Coulson. Not saying you should LIKE that direction, just that it was always heading that way.

why wouldn’t it make sense for maria or victoria to be put ahead of coulson? like, honestly, please give me a concrete explanation why it makes more sense for coulson, who was just a background extra that managed to gain popularity and who has now taken the place of actual characters from the comics, to be made not only an avenger but also the director of SHIELD, and not just that it’s “the only possible option.”

the only, ONLY reason it makes sense for coulson to become the new director of SHIELD, the only reason it was “always heading that way” is because the writers decided to go that direction. every step taken towards making coulson director was a conscious decision the writers made, because you know this isn’t actually a documentary right? victoria hand was coulson’s superior and a far more competent leader, but the writers killed her off. like, sure, I don’t think they ever would have considered victoria for director because they were always going to give it to coulson but victoria hand being dead is probably the only in-universe reason she isn’t in the running for the position. they could easily have thrown a line in about hill not being a candidate because she’s off working for stark now, but they chose to focus the entire sequence on coulson and how super special he is, which has basically been agents of SHIELD’s entire narrative so far.

I know that coulson’s fans are happy about this, and they’ve been invested in this character’s development. but you have to understand this from the point of view of both comics fans and fans of the larger mcu in general, focusing so much attention on coulson and his narrative at the expense of other characters is alienating, and kind of a misstep when it comes to expanding the mcu. the agents of SHIELD writers made a deliberate choice to make this show about how special coulson is, when the whole point of the character was that he was an incredibly mild-mannered, bland company man, who is loyal and goes by the book and is pretty old-fashioned. coulson was not all that interesting of a person, his main appeal was in being a nondescript dude in a suit who could kick your ass, and I think the writers of aos realized that as soon as they tried to make him a main character. like joss whedon admitted that he had no idea how to make coulson interesting or appealing, so he turned him into a fanboy. that was his only way to try and make coulson’s death impactful, is making him obsessed with captain america. coulson is just not main character material, he works better as an extra, and they’ve had to overhaul his personality completely in order to make him more interesting and try to justify centering this show around him.

marvel has completely changed coulson from his initial introductions in an attempt to make him more appealing and more of a main character, and the only result is that it just emphasizes how he was never intended to work as a main protagonist in the first place. making coulson a main character and then director of SHIELD also highlights how goddamn white and male the mcu is overall, how they’re reluctant to introduce more female characters from the comics, or to give the female characters they have more importance. they’re even wrangling coulson into the comics, because lord knows they need more white straight men in the comic books.

like, I understand, the comics and the mcu are two very different animals, but people are invested in the comics characters and want to see them respected in the mcu. sharon carter has had her identity as agent 13 removed, victoria hand was apparently murdered, and from what I understand, maria hill was never even mentioned in the episode. despite the fact that in the comics currently, she is director. that is her role, that is what her fans know her for, and the writers of aos didn’t give them even a throwaway line addressing it. it’s insulting that they obviously never even considered mentioning why maria isn’t being made director, when in cap 2 maria was literally the only person fury trusted, not bloody coulson.

I don’t like this direction of marvel and yeah, that’s my personal opinion, but it was NEVER THE ONLY DIRECTION AVAILABLE. they could have done literally anything with this show, they could have used it to expand the mcu outward and pull the best bits from comics canon and make it a MARVEL SHOW, but instead it never really had a clear direction and focused entirely on original characters, and the nods to 616 canon and the greater mcu were all bizarre and half-assed. this was never the only option available to them, it was a deliberate set up by the writers because they chose to make this show about coulson. that’s what I have a problem with.
