55 years ago today, photographer Albert Korda took his most famous and iconic picture of Che Guevara at the memorial service for the victims of the ‘La Coubre’ bombing.

The French freighter was being unloaded in Havana harbour when the first explosion took place. Che was one of the first on the scene and gave medical attention to the victims. Two further explosions took the total death toll in this attack, which has been widely attributed to the CIA, to between 75-100 and more than 200 injured.
