The making of Shoma’s ‘Turandot’ costume by Satomi Ito (x)
“It felt like destiny of some sorts.”
Figure skating costume designer Satomi Ito mentioned these words as she talked about Shoma Uno’s costumes.
“The program that was decided first was his free, ‘Turandot’. I was requested [to design the costume] very early on. We were already talking about it in January. His request was the earliest out of the ones from all of the other skaters. I even had a proposal of the design ready before the World Championships.”
The request and the choice of music of ‘Turandot’ came at an excellent timing for Ito. She had travelled to Rome at the beginning of the year. Amongst the numerous churches that she visited, there was one that had blue pillars decorated in gold.
