corporate activism

When you step into yourself you do not find a single person, a single self. You see your multitudes, your planes, your peaks, your inconsistencies, your intensities. You will become cruel and benevolent. You will never fit in. How to fit a universe into another universe? People fear loneliness too much. It is being locked into one aspect of yourself, a crime that corporations actively excel in, that is the worst, that is the sin against existence. Better to be alone and live in your ranges than everyday say and be the same thing.

People say “Big corporations don’t actually care about LGBT individuals, they’re just pandering to you because they want your money.”

But have you considered, just for a moment, how it feels to LGBT individuals to know that they are considered important enough to pander to? The notion that corporations, plural, are actively chasing gay dollars, lesbian coin, bi bucks, trans tender, is huge. It would have been almost unthinkable even as recently as a decade ago.

It’s considered more financially lucrative, more worthwhile, to pander to us than it is to pander solely to straight white cisfolk. Don’t diminish the importance of that, because that is massive. It’s a huge step forward.

when women make posts saying hey libfems pls stop framing makeup as a radical feminist action, we aren’t asking everyone to stop liking or wearing makeup, what is being asked is that women who wear makeup not act as though it’s a structurally empowering, feminist, or liberating decision to wear it when beauty corporations actively profit off of misogyny especially against women who don’t live up to white thin standards of femininity.

when u say that wearing makeup gives u power to stomp the patriarchy that’s a disingenuous claim that somehow positions makeup as a radical decision, when in actuality is an act of conformity to patriarchal expectations. in fact some of the only power it does give you goes along with patriarchy aka the fact that you will be treated as more valued than women who don’t or cannot live up to that expectation (just to give a couple examples butch women and poor women). that’s not liberatory power that’s power men make u think u have over other women, and advantages u will indeed have over them in misogynistic environments. admitting that and wanting you to admit it too does not equal “I’m stealing all ur makeup u can never wear it or enjoy wearing it again”, it means acknowledge that you’re doing what is expected of u and women who don’t or can’t adequately are punished and compared to u, so maybe don’t brag about how empowered and anti patriarchy you are when other women are being dehumanized for not wearing makeup like you do.

Baby Buffett: Will Bill Ackman Resurrect The Ghost Of Howard Hughes And Build A Corporate Empire?

Activism gets the headlines on Wall Street, but its boldest practitioner, Bill Ackman, is quietly pivoting to a second act that has more in common with Warren Buffett than Carl Icahn.

Mike May passed away several days ago, and the community is heartbroken at the loss of such a beloved friend and activist. Mike was an outspoken advocate for social justice. I had the honor of meeting him at the “Get Money Out of Politics” rally at 26 Federal Plaza, in downtown Manhattan (pictured here). He was a kind man with so much tenacity. He will be missed. Rest in Power Mike May.

the mcdonalds tumblr (actually ran by mcdonalds) hasnt posted since valentines day.  why are huge corporations not actively pursuing social media?  it’s a single salary (or even an intern) and you’re making billions a year?????  mcdonalds i am unemployed and ready to work for you. i have more great ideas for your company other than not leaving your social media accounts unattended for two months

officialarcanines replied to your post “there’s no such thing as a legitimately good corporation, especially…”

pornhub is still a terrible host of amateur pornography and treats representation very badly, but just because they did a couple of insignificantly ‘nice’ things that don’t really impact anything on a larger scale, tumblr seems to be piling on to them and revering them like a capitalist god

exactly, it’s a shame so many people haven’t made the jump from “this bad company is doing good things” to “this bad company is doing good things to make itself look better, but the fact their ‘acts of kindness’ don’t address any of the issues of their business just proves that it’s a distraction”

but, i mean, it’s tumblr. on a site comprised of teenagers and young adults who were brought up in a society where corporate benevolence is seen as a ‘good thing’ regardless of the circumstances it’s not surprising that any corporation that isn’t actively poisoning someone’s water supply or advocating for the murder of indigenous peoples will be given ‘good corporation status’ just for plowing snow covered roads

they even had giant pornhub banners on the plow trucks… if they had even the slightest good intentions they wouldn’t have used it as an advertising opportunity

Firms Paid Bill Clinton Millions As They Lobbied Hillary Clinton

Former President Bill Clinton accepted more than $2.5 million in speaking fees from 13 major corporations and trade associations that lobbied the U.S. State Department while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, an International Business Times investigation has found. The fees were paid directly to the former president, and not directed to his philanthropic foundation.

Many of the companies that paid Bill Clinton for these speeches – a roster of global giants that includes Microsoft, Oracle and Dell – engaged him within the same three-month period in which they were also lobbying the State Department in pursuit of their policy aims, federal disclosure documents show. Several companies received millions of dollars in State Department contracts while Hillary Clinton led the institution.

“I’m going to change your face every time my train is delayed.

You are the CEO of First Capital Connect and my train is late almost every day."

I love the internet. Creativity + computer + healthy dose of (righteous) angst = power.

I once had an idea where I wanted to make a ‘BrandF#cked” site. People could upload logos and do obscne things to the brand logos that maligned them. It would’ve been a passive aggressive away to get back at them when you feel powerless.

Was a little too angst-y to spend too much time building it though. I prefer positive vibes.

But the methodical and persistent approach here – done while actually delayed – is what brings it to a level of genius we must bow down to. The humor elevates it out of sociopathic angst and puts it into the realm of performance art.

Corporate Activism: A New Hope?

Corporations are known neither for being benign, nor altruistic. From Enron to BP – destruction and greed have become shorthand for the multi-national. However, a change may be afoot…
