These are the types of houses the people who built our neolithic passage tombs lived in.
There was an excavation in corbally in co. kildare and they found 3 houses. All with birtch bark roofing.
Its a contrast to the technology in the passage tombs that show up in myth as the homes of deities. The tombs have corbelled roofing that is still water tight 5000+ years on.
The thing is normal people living a hunter gatherer life style didn’t have the time and energy to make their own homes to a higher standard. They lived hand to mouth before the advent of agriculture and if theyd tried to gather 2 tonnes of reeds to thatch a house theyd have starved.
