Brisbane Valley Rail Trail -  19 MARCH 2016

Have you tried the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail? You should. Over 100km of trail in South East Queensland, and the community is actively working with the local councils to turn this into a tourist destination and trail. As winter rolls around, the trails should get even busier, especially with the cooler weather. It was way too hot still in March when we went. By 10am, it was scorching hot.

Here are details of our route:

  1. We started from Fernvale and parked at the Fernvale Futures Centre.
  2. Fernvale to Lowood (8km)
  3. Lowood to Coominya (12km)
  4. Coominya to Cooragook Bridge (10km) and return to Fernvale. We opted not to go any further beyond the bridge as it was getting too hot.

It’s a great trail, and if you have a cyclocross, MTB or fatbike, we encourage you to give it a go. There are other sections of the trail which we havent done, especially the western part form Yarraman-Blackbutt-Moore (which takes 1hr 45mins to drive from Brisbane).
