cool presidents

“Gilman Street was the best education I got. Walking through that door the first thing I saw was a sign saying ‘No Sexism, No Racism, No Homophobia’, and I think that’s had an impact on me for the rest of my life,” he recalls.

“Now when people come to our shows the main thing is I want them to feel like they’re in a safe space. If you’re gay, straight, white, black, brown, transgender, if there’s one place you feel you can go to it’s a Green Day gig.”

y’all white tumblr commies: obama whether or not he seems like a hip cool president, has killed many using drone strikes and deported millions. this is not justice and just because he’s the “lesser evil” doesnt make his actions excusable - its disgusting how under liberal capitalism certain groups of people are considered okay to be “scarified” so the leader who could have accommodated all can appear to be ideologically pure

me, a leftist: yes this is all true and important

y’all, continuing for some reason: any criticism or discomfort of any [usually nonwhite] persons towards Our Great Leaders like Castro or Mao or Pol Pot makes you a capitalist and a useless liberal! maybe some people died under their rule but people die under capitalism all the time! see how they are the lesser evil and that in all actuality, we are better and it is just the nature of the revolution that some groups need be scarified for the progression of all! isn’t that right comrade?

me : *shoots you in the shin with a glock*

Alright so I’m in a public library right now, using the computers, when I sat down I noticed this guy next to me quite clearly tapping out an angry response to a post on facebook. Obviously I want to know what’s up, so I try and glance out of the corner of my eye as to the post that he was replying to, but all I could make out were a couple of phrases and mostly just “Clinton would…” followed by “Trump would…” Now this guy sitting next to me was a middle-aged white guy, and basically fit the description of what I would say is a stereotypical Trump supporter, and the fact he was typing something about Trump on facebook and seemed to be upset about it only added to the fact. But it wasn’t until I actually started to read his post when I realised that all my assumptions were wrong. He was actually telling off the poster because they were praising Trump for the misogynistic/racist/just plain awful things that Trump has said and done. So you go dude for making me rethink my stereotypes, and for standing up for what you believe in

I love this speech. She’s funny. She’s herself. She has chill. She makes people laugh. She roasts her co-worker like a boss she is. You can feel that everyone in the room admires and loves her.

That’s Hillary. A person who is funny. A person who knows her co-workers on a personal level. Who knows their pet-peeves.Who knows who their favorite team is, who cares about them.

That’s Hillary.

I could not love her more. You could have had this cool cinnamon roll as president, America. You fucked up. You’d rather have a sexist, homophobic narcissist as the head of state than a woman who is all what I’ve just described and so much more.

Yet there is still the matter of first principles. There is no way to unite the view that one should deport the children of illegal immigrants with the view that one should not deport the children of illegal immigrants. This is what Martin Luther King Jr. meant when he deplored “the luxury of cooling off.” If the presidency of Donald Trump inspires anything, it should be a fierce spirit of opposition.
