at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey on April 28, 2005. The Heat won the game 108-105, and would soon take the series 4-0.
During the game Jay premiered a remake of his 2001 track “Takeover” during the game. The new version, titled “The Takeover,” featured the Young Gunz and was recorded to serve as the Nets’ playoff anthem. Hov co-produced the remake alongside Tone and Poke of the Trackmasters. “We are thrilled that Jay-Z and the Trackmasters Tone and Poke has devoted their time to producing a song that captures the excitement of Nets Playoff Basketball,” said Brett Yormark, the President and CEO of Nets Sports & Entertainment. “Our fans are going to love this and the atmosphere at the game is going to be off the charts.” Yormark is the current President and CEO of the Brooklyn Nets organization and Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, and his twin brother Michael is the President of Roc Nation.
The week before the game, Luda had released “The Potion” as the third single from his fourth studio album The Red Light District. Timbaland had first played the beat for Hov during the sessions for The Black Album, but he passed on it in favor of the beat that became “Dirt Off Your Shoulder.”
