How to Save a Life- Chapter Fifty (Epilogue)

Here is the final chapter of How to Save a Life!!! A huge thank you goes to Karley of dwyerdaily for helping me come up with ideas for this epilogue! I hope y'all enjoy this last chapter and please hit the heart and leave your feedback!! :D

***12 years later, 2025. Hadley’s Point of View***

“It’s been so long since the last time we did this” Conor says heavily, trailing his lips down my neck and moving his hands to the bottom of my pajama top. “I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you too, darling” I reply between happy sighs. My husband’s mouth feels so good and familiar on my skin, sucking on that sweet spot that always drives me wild.

Our bedroom is dark, but the room suddenly fills with a quick flash of light coming in from the windows, but we’re too caught up in each other to notice or care. Followed by the flash of light is a huge clap of thunder.

“Crap, it’s a storm” I whisper.

“So?” Conor hisses back, starting to push down my pajama pants. “Its perfect weather to get close to someone.”
“Yeah, someone meaning the kids” I remind him. “You know Rory and Mackenzie are scared of thunderstorms.”

Conor sighs and pulls away, bracing himself above me, his huge hands on either side of my head. “They went to bed two hours ago. I bet they’ll sleep through the storm.”

As if on cue, the pitter-patter sound of two pairs of tiny feet makes its way down the hall. I hear a squeaking of a doorknob and the thud of the bedroom door as it hits the wall.

“Mommy! It’s thundering!” our 4 year-old daughter shrieks in her high pitched voice.

“I’m scared!” Rory, our 3 year-old son shrieks alongside his sister. Conor sighs again and just shakes his head at me in disbelief. I respond with a silent, smug smile. Mother always knows best.

Where Ever The Current Takes Us

Hello world! My it’s been a long time since I’ve done this but I got some inspiration to write again. So please let me know what you think! Also sorry for any typo’s I was doing this on my tablet and it didn’t like me a certain times, or ever. :) -Ash

Please god, I will do anything to see her through this. In all 25 years of my life, I don’t think I have ever prayed harder, nor have I wanted anything more. Not a gold medal, not to be an Olympian. Nothing.. I silently looked around the room. The faces of my loved ones and Ariel’s silently sitting there, her mother in the corner sobbing quietly into her fathers shoulder. Her brother starting out the window with Spencer. My mother and father sitting quietly there eyes brimming with tears as they watched the pain there dear friends felt. I felt a gentle hand touch my arm. I turned my face to see my younger sister pati sitting there, her eyes bloodshot from tears “She’s gonna be fine Conor. She’s a fighter” she whispered to me. I looked down a ever so slightly nodded my head. “I hope so Pati, she’s everything to me. I would change places with her in a heart beat if I could, I just wish I would have been home to protect her” I said. Tears were threating to spill over; I focused on the floor trying to regulate my breathing and push them back in. We’d been here since 11 last night, she’d been in surgery for 13 hours. I’d gone through every single emotion I could. I was scared, scared the only girl I ever loved wouldn’t make it.
Hurt, hurt that she felt this was something she couldn’t speak to me about. Angry, angry at god for making her feel this pain. Angry at myself that I couldn’t protect her.

I felt Pati’s hand stroke my arm ever so gently, it gave me comfort to know that our families could come together in my time of need. My mind wondered back to the day where I first saw her I could remember it like it was yesterday…

Thinking About You- Chapter 1

So this is my first fanfic!!! I hope you like it. Feedback is needed. And if you want something in the story let me know.

Conor POV:

We had one brutal dry land practice today. Once I got to my apartment I crashed on my bed. It had to be around 8 when I finally woke up. I checked my phone and I saw I had 5 texts and 3 missed calls, all of them from Ryan. So I called him back, and after about 3 rings he picked up.

Ryan: Bout time you answered. Thought you might have died or something.

Conor: I’m fine. Just tired. What’s up?
Ryan: Diggy!! The Kappa Deltas are turning up tonight!! You have to come with me tonight!!
Conor: Ry, I don’t think so, I’m pretty tired after today’s practice.
Ryan: Dude, it’s gonna be all kind of people there. This is the livest it’s gonna get. C’mon man, you are my wingman. Please! Please!
Conor: Alright I’ll go! Give me an hour to get ready.

Jess POV:

My girl had convinced me to go to this party tonight. I really didn’t want to go since I had just moved on town but hey you only live once, and she told me it was time I have a little fun. So I quickly showered once I got home and picked out this super lacy dress that came a few inches before my knees. And then I did my makeup. Not too much, just enough to cover up some spots. Like I said I had just moved up here to Gainsville, and made quite a few friends. Most were from sororities. I was downing my 2nd shot when I heard knock on my door. It was Anna and some of her “sisters”. I didn’t quite understand the whole sorority thing, but they were still my friends. Anna quickly said, “OMG! Jess you are drop dead gorgeous tonight!” “Thanks, this dress is so old, and I haven’t finished unpacking, so I just through it on.” Anna said, “Well bitches its time to roll and not remember anything from tonight.

Conor POV:

Ryan arrived at my apartment at 10 on the dot, and I could tell he was already buzzed. It was a good thing Sorority Row was a short walk away. When we arrived the party was in full swing. Ryan went straight for the keg and started drinking. I already knew he wasn’t going to remember anything in the morning. I moved through the crowd to the backyard of the Kappa house and that’s when I saw her. She was dancing with a group of girls. She had long straight brown hair and legs that went on forever. I had to go up to her. She was too perfect to pass up.

Jess POV:

We had arrived at the party and I quickly got a drink to calm my nerves a bit. I think I was on my 4th beer when I finally started getting buzzed. The DJ had put on “till the world ends” by Britney Spears, and I just had to start dancing. I found Anna and the group and we just started dancing. It was then when this tall, muscular, eyes to dream in for days walked up to me and said hello.

Conor: Hi! I’m Conor.
Jess: Hi! I’m Jess.

We started dancing and the DJ slowed it down a bit, and “Thinking Bout You” by Frank Ocean came on and Conor asked me to dance with him. I kindly said yes. It was then when the cops showed up. Some of the boys started fighting in the street and the neighbors called the cops. We all ran from the house. I couldn’t find my girls and I was so drunk. Conor took my hand and we ran together.

Conor POV:
The party had come to a close because some dudes were really immature. I grabbed Jess’s hand and i ran to my apartment. Once I got there I called Ryan to see if he got out alright and he told me he left with 2 blondes and he would talk to me in the morning. I noticed that Jess was really drunk, so I offered for her to go to bed in my room ad I would take the couch. She said she didn’t have any sleeping clothes so I gave her one of my Gator shirts. Before I knew it she was stripping in front of me, and she was perfect in every way.
I was about to leave out the room when she told me to stay. So I hopped in bed and she cuddled up next to me and we went to sleep.

I hope y’all like it. It’s my first time really writing and like I said I would love some feedback!

Just As You Are (a prequel to Make You Feel My Love)

Chapter 4

Summer 2010

Grace was waiting on the sidewalk outside the practice facility when a voice behind her said, “Hey, Henley.”

She turned around and saw a pair of hazel-green eyes under a mop of curly light brown hair. “Oh hey, Dwyer. Good practice today?”

“Yeah. Pretty good.”

“Hey, congrats on Swimmer of the Year!”

Conor Dwyer was an up-and-coming swimmer whom Grace had met the previous summer when he transferred from the University of Iowa. He had just won the SEC and NCAA Swimmer of the Year award.

”Oh, thanks. Yeah, I was kind of surprised by that.”

“You shouldn’t be. You’ve had an amazing year. Coach Troy is expecting great things from you. Think you’ll make the national team?”

He scratched the back of his neck. “Yeah, actually. I think I might have a good chance. I don’t know. We’ll see, I guess.”

She smiled at his humble answer.

“Hey, uh, I was wondering—”

Just then a car horn blared. They looked over and saw Ryan poke his head out of his window and yell, “Come on, woman! You promised me dinner!”

Grace glared at Ryan. ”Ignore him, please,” she said to Conor. She turned around to face him again. “I’m sorry. What were you wondering?”

“Oh—nothing. It was nothing,” he said quickly. He looked down and studied his shoes.

“OK,“ she said, a little disappointed. She tilted her head to study him, but when he didn’t look back, she added, "Well, I guess I’ll see you around then. Bye, Conor.”

He finally looked up and she caught a shy smile. "Right. See you around, Henley.” As he watched her get into Ryan’s car, his roommate Sebastien walked up to him.

“Dude, she knows your name!” he teased.

Conor shrugged him off. “Shut up, Seb,” he replied, but secretly he was thinking the same thing.

“Ryan, do you think you can tone down the ‘woman’ talk? I don’t want people to think we’re together or anything.”

He chuckled. “I’m just messing with Conor. I think he has a crush on you.”

“Oh, leave him alone. He’s a sweet kid.”

“So, what’s for dinner?”

“I was thinking barbecue.” Ryan was letting Grace stay at his house for a few weeks while her new condo was being renovated. In exchange, she offered to cook dinner for him and his brother, Devon.

As she was preparing the ribs, Carter, Ryan’s sweet Doberman, followed her around. “Carter, don’t even think about it,” she warned as she caught him eyeing the meat. He tilted his head and looked at her innocently. “You’re just like your dad,” she said to him. “Ryan, if you don’t want dinner splattered all over the floor, please get Carter. I’m going to trip over him.” Ryan whistled for him and Carter was torn. He kept looking between the two of them. Eventually, he went to sit beside Ryan on the couch, but he faced the kitchen expectantly.

After dinner, Ryan helped her clean up.

“So, are you excited for your photoshoot?” he asked.

“No. I’m actually kind of nervous.”

Now that her college eligibility was over, Grace was free to find sponsors and earn money. She found an agent who was able to get both sponsors and modeling work.

“Why are you nervous? You’ve done this kind of thing before.”

“But it’s not the same. I’ve always been Grace Henley, the athlete. Now it’s just Grace Henley, the body or the face.” She knit her brows. “I don’t think I’m cut out for this. I’m not…pretty enough,” she confessed.

Ryan stopped loading the dishes in the dishwasher and turned to face her. “Are you serious?” He took her by the shoulders and said with such sincerity, “Henley, you are freakin’ gorgeous. I don’t understand why girls have such a hard time seeing how beautiful they really are.”

She sighed. Why are we so critical of ourselves, she wondered. And why does it take a guy like Ryan telling us that we are beautiful before we can believe it? She was mulling this over when he broke the silence.

“Besides, it’s probably not your face we’re looking at,” he teased.

“You’re such an ass.“ She swatted him with the dish towel she had in her hand while he grinned at her. She could never stay mad at him though and smiled back at him. "Promise me you’ll never change, Ryan.”

"Cross my heart,” he said.

Later that week, Grace was looking at some shots from the session that she had just finished. They weren’t retouched yet, but with the shadowing and all, she thought she didn’t look half bad.

She went back to her hotel room and saw a huge bouquet of flowers on the table. Thinking they were from her manager, she opened the card.

This is just the start of great things for you. I’m so proud of you, Gracie.

She picked up her phone.

“Hey, gorgeous,” he answered.

“Hey, Ryan. Thanks for the flowers. They’re beautiful.”

“Oh, you got them? Cool."  He sounded a little out of breath.

"And thanks for the note, too.”

“You’re welcome. I meant it, you know. Gracie—I gotta go! Devon’s throwing fire crackers at me! See you when you get back!”

“Don’t burn the house down!” she yelled into her phone. She heard some popping sounds and Ryan laughing before the line went dead. It’s a wonder how that boy has lived to see his twenties.

She was looking forward to moving into her own place, but she had to admit, she was going to miss living in Ryan’s crazy house. Maybe I’ll get a dog and name it Ryan, she thought, then nixed the idea when she realized how busy she was going to be.

Grace bent over the flowers and inhaled deeply. There was certainly more to Ryan than his good looks and goofy ways. She was glad that she looked beyond first impressions. Otherwise, she would have missed out on getting to know this incredible guy.
