Two dolphins dead after a two-day rave at Swiss dolphinarium.

Two dolphins are dead after the Connyland themepark in Switzerland allowed a two-day rave to take place just a few yards from their tank.

The pair died agonizing, drawn-out deaths, seizing and foaming at the mouth. Veterinarians now say their deaths were likely caused by the ear-splitting music of the rave and drugs that ravers threw into the dolphins’ tank.

Carin Zellerman is an animal activist living in Sweden. After hearing about the tragedy – and the fact thatConnyland ignored protests by local activists who warned a rave would endanger the dolphins – she decided to start a petition on Change.org to save the remaining dolphins from Connyland’s negligence. Please sign Carin’s petition calling on Swiss officials to shut down the Connyland dolphinarium where two dolphins died after a rave last month.

Eight dolphins have died at Connyland in the past three years, and a 2010 investigation into alleged violations of Swiss animal welfare laws at Connyland is still pending. Meanwhile, the health of the remaining dolphins at Connyland is slowly deterioriating  (due to illness and chemical poisoning as well as claustrophobia that results in depressive behavior and sometimes self-abuse).

The good news is that a  global outcry over this disaster is fueling the longstanding domestic movement to get Connyland’s dolphin tank – the last dolphinarium in Switzerland – shut down. Swiss officials can’t ignore this gross violation of animal welfare; they need to know that the world is watching, and that thousands expect them to save Connyland’s remaining dolphins.

Dolphins Die After Rave at Connyland - Please sign this petition to have the Connyland dolphinarium shut down.

Two dolphins were found dead following a rave at Connyland. The Swiss marine park had initially been accused of killing Shadow and Chelmers by allowing a deafening two-day rave to be held just a few yards from the dolphins’ pool. According to Andreas Morlok from Prowal, this is comparable with that of a pneumatic drill on top volume. It has now been suggested that the dolphins also may have been drugged and poisoned by ravers.

i’m all for drugs and dancin’ but please rave responsibly..this is cruel and unfair. it’s not the first time this Connyland has had issues with animal cruelty, either.

Two dolphins who died after two-day techno party at marine park ‘were fed drugs by ravers’

A pair of dolphins may have died after being fed drugs by ravers after a second animal died.

Police looking into the deaths in Connyland, Lipperswil, Switzerland, initially thought the deafening music from the rave may have killed dolphins Shadow and Chelmers.

But zoo vets are awaiting toxicology test results to see if they were poisoned by narcotics thrown into their enclosure during the rave.

Shadow was found soon after the event but Chelmers died two days later after a ‘drawn out and painful’ death.

Connyland keeper Nadja Gasser told local media: 'The death was very drawn out and painful. The death went on for over an hour. It was horrendous. I have not been able to sleep since.’

'When we went to start the dolphin training we noticed the same thing that had happened to Shadow was happening with Chelmers.

'He was drifting under the water and was clearly in trouble and so we jumped into the water. We tried to hold him. He was shaking all over and was foaming at the mouth.

'Eventually we got him out of the water. His tongue was hanging out. He could hardly breathe. He was given adrenalin, but it didn’t help. After an hour the dolphin died,’ she added.

And dolphin expert Nadja said: 'I do not think Chelmers or Shadow died of natural causes. I think our dolphins have been poisoned.’

Now Swiss prosecutors have confirmed that they are investigating the deaths of both dolphins.

Public prosecutors department spokesman Patrick Muller said: 'We are investigating. We are looking into the death of both dolphins this week.’

Furious animal activists say they warned both the marine park and local planners - who gave permission for the rave - of the dangers before the event.

They had been concerned that the high levels of noise could damage the marine mammals sensitive sonar and hearing and harm their delicate immune system.

'At this stage we don’t know whether they were poisoned or bludgeoned to death by the noise. But one thing is certain - two healthy dolphins don’t die within hours of each other for nothing,’ said one campaigner.

Connyland has denied any wrong-doing.
