connecticut shooting

so, this girl made a song about the Connecticut shooting, and it’s amazing and made me tear up, please listen to it and spread the word about it.

(I’m sure all of you know about the massacre that occurred today at Sandy Hooks Elementary School in Newton Connecticut. Please pray for the children and their families, they’ve been put through so much. No child should have to die so young and so close to Christmas. This picture is just a small offering to commemorate the 20 students and 6 teachers that died today

It seems like there’s been a lot of shootings happening recently, the most recent being one in Oregon at a shopping mall only a few days ago.

Everyone, please be careful while going out for your holiday shopping and stay safe.)

Cenk weighs in on the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn., asking again what it will take for politicians to act on gun control.

“There’s no way in the world they all would have been dead if that shooter didn’t have a gun,” he says. “No way, no how. People will make their ridiculous arguments…about how you can kill people with other things… but they don’t. They kill them with guns. And they killed 20 young kids today with a gun. They tell us, not now, not now. Don’t talk about it. Don’t politicize it. It’s a trick. They don’t want you to talk about it now because they don’t want you to talk about it ever. Because they don’t want to fix it.“

Green & White - For Sandy Hook.
everyone must watch this, this utterly heart-wrenching.

“This is inspired by the horrific tragedy of the Connecticut shooting. I saw a photo on Instagram that said, ‘Wear Green and White on Monday; those are Sandy Hook Elementary School Colours’ … and that was when this song came to me. I want everyone to know that I didn’t write it for the recognition, but simply because the song came to me; I was inspired and I just had to write it."

You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here’s why.

It’s because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he’ll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN’s article says that if the body count “holds up,” this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer’s face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer’s identity? None that I’ve seen yet. Because they don’t sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you’ve just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man’s name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news.

—  Morgan Freeman on the Connecticut school shooting

To those who have lost their lives today at the shooting in Connecticut. I deeply feel sorry for those who have lost a loved one today, espically someone who is still a child. I can’t even fathom the pain and suffering those parents must be going through right now. It is a terrible shame that this horrific event took place so close to Christmas. I can imagine all those presents under the tree that will never be touched by that child. It really is a shame that our country has ignorant people who think it is okay to just go and kill whomever they see fit. I send out my prayers and grief to those parents who lost their child today.

In memory of all the lives lost in the elementary school shooting, the lives lost in the stabbing in China, & all the lives lost daily that aren’t always publicized by the media. May they all continue to rest in peace. I’ll continue to pray for all the families who don’t have that special someone to spend the holidays with, to grow old with, to joke around with, to love.. to hold.. and to adore. Hopefully, the world will become a better place. A place where kids can go to school and not have to worry about not making it home that afternoon.. xo

‎In the face of unimaginable tragedy, our first instinct is to pray. This isn’t a fruitless, or insufficient, or unhelpful practice. It’s a choice. It’s a choice of light over darkness, good over evil, the love of Christ over hate and injustice. The more we do it, the better we, collectively, become. Join us in praying for the children and families of Newtown, Conn., and all our children, and that we — humanity — move toward love, and in turn, toward peace.
—  Fr. Barron

this was on facebook, don’t know if someone already posted it on here, but it’s just so heartbreaking I felt the need to post it. I still don’t understand why anyone would do that to kids. My heart goes to the families, especially Brian’s mom. I hope she got this note.

tell me why adam lanza is a 'quiet bright loner'.

if his name was ahmed, not adam, no one would be calling him a quiet bright loner. no one would say he was misunderstood, that this was something that could have been fixed, that he was brilliant and odd, shy and socially awkward.

they’d be calling him a radical backward terrorist who hates america and wants to see it brought down and al queeda and look at what these terrorists did during 9/11 we ought to kick all these muslim fuckers out of the country.

tell me why after 9/11, my mother was once spit on because she wears the hijab, but after the murder of 20 children, the american people are fighting over gun laws. tell me why i was once ‘jokingly’ called sadam hussein’s niece but adam lanza is just a defect, a mistake, something that can be argued about for a few weeks, then thrown under the rug.

what was the name of that guy who shot up that movie theater a few months ago? do you even remember? maybe, maybe not.

i just get so angry sometimes.
