Ancient Romans built concrete sea walls that have withstood pounding ocean waves for more than 2,000 years. Now, an international team has discovered a clue to the concrete’s longevity: a rare mineral forms during chemical reactions between the concrete and seawater that strengthen the material.
Structural engineers might be able to use these insights to make stronger, more-sustainable concrete, says team leader Marie Jackson, a geologist at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She and her colleagues report their findings on 3 July in American Mineralogist1.
*I wrote this with the sun and mars signs in mind*
Aries: It was a cool summer night. “You’re crazy.” I said as you pulled me towards an abandoned building. “Don’t be scared, I just wanna check it out.” We wandered through the decaying concrete, graffiti on every wall possible. I was so scared but I was trying hard not to lose my cool. After all you were absolutely loving this. There was a loud creak and I jumped, grabbing your arm. “Babe calm down, look at me.” You said soothingly, rubbing my shoulders. We made out there in the middle of the building; in the middle of the night. Your kisses enthralling, and for a moment I forgot about everything else. The creak came again but louder, “Okay, fuck this.” You laughed, grabbing my hand and we ran as fast as we could out of there and into the summer air.
Taurus: It was pitch black, our kisses growing more urgent as you fumbled around trying to undo my buttons. “I can’t see anything.” you chuckled. I sparked my lighter and you looked around for a candle, finding one and lighting it with my flame; never taking your eyes off me. You undid my pants quickly with a smirk on your face and threw them dramatically across the room. Your lips finding mine again, making up for the loss of contact. “You are so fucking hot” you whispered, running your hands down my body, a trace of goosebumps forming on my skin. You pushed in slowly, moaning as you felt my heat. You buried your face in my hair I lost all focus. I just held on for dear life as the candlelight flickered erratically on the ceiling.
Gemini: Your bedroom was covered with so many posters I couldn’t see what colour it was painted. You had not one, but two lava lamps, one purple and one orange. We were laying on your floor, listening to Frank Ocean on vinyl, “Sometimes I think about faking my own death, and leaving the parts I don’t like about myself behind.” you said somberly, drawing lazy circles on my stomach with your finger. “Where would you go?” I asked. You propped your head up, your adorable face flushed purple in the light from the lamp. “Anywhere but here,” you said pulling me even closer, “only as long as I could take you with me though.” I ran my finger across your bottom lip and you bit it, we giggled quietly, then sighed. You kissed me so deeply, like an ocean tide that ebbs and flows. We made love, slow love right there on your bedroom floor. Every now and then, when things are quiet, parts of that night come back in flashes when I close my eyes.
Cancer: Snow had been coming down like crazy all day and everybody was staying inside. We had made the heroic journey to the store to get the bare necessities. Popcorn, paprika Pringles and those fruity toffees. Now we were cuddled in an abundance of duvets and pillows watching Spirited Away. “Are you cold?” you asked softly. “No I’m actually really warm.” I said adjusting the pillows behind me. Your eyes shot around the room, you bit your lip as your gaze landed on me. “What?” I asked when I noticed you staring. You grinned, “I’m kinda cold.” I couldn’t help but laugh as I lifted my blanket and pulled you into my cocoon. Your hand slipped under my shirt as you got comfortable. “Oh my god, your hand is freezing.” I shrieked. “Warm me up then.” you teased as you kissed me gently.
Leo: “You are such a goddamn hypocrite, why are you being so possessive?” I yelled at you. “Because I fucking love you!” you screamed even louder. My eyes shot wide as the words left your mouth. I felt like I was about to faint. Like everything I’d known for the past two months had been wrong. I put my hand on my forehead and slowly sat down on the sofa. “Since when?” I asked warily. You sat down next to me, leaving a little space between us, not wanting to scare me away. “Since the day I met you.” you said more gently. I shook my head in confusion. All these months I’d been crushing on you, telling myself I was a fool for thinking you could ever feel the same. “Look, I should go.” you said standing up, I grabbed your arm quickly and pulled you to me. I kissed you with my eyes open, I didn’t believe it but my eyes couldn’t lie. You picked me up and put me in your lap. “We can’t do this.” I whispered into your neck. You grabbed me even tighter, not ready to let me go. “Tell me to stop,” you breathed kissing down my collarbone, your finger toying with the band of my panties, “just tell me to stop.” Your eyes searched mine for an answer. Your finger inching further, grazing down the lace in front. I moaned into your mouth, giving you the answer you needed. The one we both needed.
Virgo: My phone buzzed next to my laptop. It was almost midnight and my chemistry notes were making less sense than ever. “Hi baby.” I half sighed as I answered. “Where are you?” you asked. “On my bed, what’s up?” I could hear your breathing through the phone, “Nothing, just thinkin’ about you. ‘Bout us.” you said cheekily. I closed my eyes as that familiar lightness hit my stomach. “Oh really, what are we doing?” I teased. You half groaned on the other line, “Thinking about your skin, running my tongue up your spine, and swirling it around your-” Now I was the one who moaned. “Can you come pick me up?” I panted. You laughed, “Thought you’d never ask.”
Libra: It was my first birthday in the new city and I was feeling more homesick than ever. You knocked on my door and told me to get dressed while you poured two shots of tequila. You took me on an adventure, stumbling through a regal museum slightly tipsy. I was laughing at this modern piece, you asked why I didn’t get it, I said the shape was a bit funky. From behind you wrapped your arms around my waist, pressing yourself up against me, “I think it’s a quite stimulating.” you whispered with a sly grin, and my entire body shivered. Then you took me to dinner, your eyes staring into mine the whole time and I could hear my heart beating in my ears. It was like moving between worlds, reality changing from hour to hour. I don’t even remember what we talked about, only what I was feeling. We couldn’t even last until desert, our minds running away from us. As soon as I opened the door to my place your lips crashed onto mine, and for the first time that night I felt like I could breathe.
Scorpio: “Do you wanna wrestle?” I asked you with a wicked grin on my face. “I’m not gonna wrestle you.” You said not taking your eyes of the TV. I jumped on you and the Xbox controller went flying. “You asked for it.” You growled as you started fighting me back. I knew I had no chance, I just wanted to get you all fired up. Before I knew it I was on my back, hands pinned down above my head and your strong thighs straddling my torso. “Who’s the winner?” you demanded. “You’re the winner daddy.” I purred, reaching up and biting your lip. Your expression shifted, your eyes going from that watery blue to devilish dark in a split second, and I knew I was in for a ride.
Sagittarius: It was 3 a.m. I knew I had school in the morning but at this point I didn’t care. Cruising around the city in your parents BMW, the bass in the sound system making our blood vibrate. Like it hadn’t been already. We didn’t say anything, we couldn’t. We couldn’t afford to lose control. Then L$D by A$AP Rocky came on. My hands were shaking in my lap, your knuckles white from squeezing the steering wheel so hard. The engine purred as you drove faster, now with a purpose, pulling into the beach parking lot. The car came to an abrupt stop and I couldn’t take this any longer. You moved your seat back as I jumped over the console. You kissed me like you were drowning and I was air. All that tension finally snapping like firecrackers as the music pumped through our bodies. Your strong arms lifted me up and pushed my dress up my thighs, the windows fogging up. I could feel your biceps trembling under the palm of my hand, and thought how could something that felt so right be so wrong?
Capricorn: The whole day had had a weird, electrifying feel to it. Now I knew why. We were standing out there on the balcony, face to face in the middle of the crowd. “Kiss me.” you said nonchalantly. “You kiss me.” I incited. You took a long drag of the joint, gently pressing your lips to mine as you blew the smoke into my mouth. I just stared back at you, blowing the smoke out again calmly, your fingers still caressing the back of my neck. You almost smiled but stopped it midway by biting your lip. I grabbed your shirt and pulled you to me. I kissed you like it was the last time. You pulled back slightly to catch your breath, “Wanna get out of here?”
Aquarius: The night I first met you. I didn’t wanna go out but my friends convinced me. The bar was so packed but somehow I got to the front of the stage. There you were, and that cherry red guitar, in your own world. I remember I couldn’t take my eyes of your fingers when you played. I didn’t even notice you were looking at me until the song was over. You laughed and playfully tugged on your shirt. I didn’t get why but then I noticed we were both wearing the same Led Zeppelin shirt. When the show was over you found me so quickly I knew you had been watching me. “I feel like this was meant to be.” you said leaning up against the bar. I took you in, your knuckles had little cuts on them and your black jeans were splattered with green paint. “I’m not really in the mood to make friends tonight.” I said, taking a sip of my beer. You ran your hand teasingly through that dirty blonde DiCaprio hair, “How ‘bout we just stay strangers then?” I knew I’d already lost this fight. The next thing I remember is literally falling into your foyer, your lips on my neck as I moaned in your ear. You held me so tight, pulling my shirt up ever so slightly just to put your skin on mine. I pushed you down, taking my shirt all they way off while I straddled your hips, and you looked at me like I had just discovered fire. When it was all over you grabbed my face with both your hands, “What’s your name?” you breathed. I smirked as I put my clothes back on, “I thought we were gonna stay strangers.” I was halfway home when I realized that the shirt I was wearing wasn’t mine, it was yours.
Pisces: The record had finished all the way through. That needle scratch sound from the record player filled the silence in the room. I was in your arms, tangled in bedsheets and your sticky bodyparts. You grazing my back lightly with your fingers. “I need to pee.” I said trying untangle myself limb by limb. Your arms tightened around me, “No, you can’t go.” you pouted. I giggled and wiggled around in your embrace. “I have to pee, I’ll be quick.” You pressed your forehead against mine. “Promise?” you said softly. I pecked your lips three times. “I promise.”
Bucky, can you tell us about a time you had to force Steve to go to medical because he thinks he's pretty much invincible?
my favorite times is when steve is unconscious. or really punch drunk. because then i can just drag him into medical. and i dont really have to worry about brain damage because 1. he’s already an idiot and 2. healing factor.
( which is not to say that his healing factor is enough to keep him out of medical. it’s not. he still has to go in, no matter what he says. the only ones who get out of medical on the healing factor excuse are wade and logan. and that’s just because they’re too much of a pain to bother with. so steve still has to go to medical. )
you would think being raised by a nurse would teach him to respect medical. but no.
he broke his hand–his whole damn hand, not just the fingers–punching a solid concrete wall a month ago. he wasnt aiming for the wall. (he claims.) he was aiming for a doombot, which dodged, and he hit the wall instead. it may have been the only doombot ever made with a survival instinct. if only steve could have borrowed that after clint shot the doombot’s head off.
since steve is steve, and he thinks erskine and howard injected him with adamantium instead of superjuice, he just kept fighting with his broken hand. and he kept forgetting it was broken. (and yelling swearwords over the comms every time he punched something with it. language, steve.)
so afterwords, all of us knew he was injured–it was pretty hard to miss, what with the swearing and the swelling. if the universe was kind, or if steve was less stubborn, he would have accepted the inevitable and just gone to medical. obviously he did not do that. instead, he started doing the ‘im just fine my hands are always this weird looking bucky what are you talking about’ routine. i think he was just planning on setting the bones himself, though i really dont want to know how exactly he planned to do that. i was fixing to just grab him and haul him off.
i guess he could see it in my expression, because he made a break for it, and tried to grab hold of tony as he was taking off. except tony didn’t see him coming, and the two of them only made it about twelve feet up before steve throwing off tony’s balance managed to crash them both.
the iron man is pretty heavy. steve wound up under it.
he broke his other hand.
after that he went to medical quietly.
(he was not quiet for long. theres no greater force of irritation than bedridden steve who can’t use his hands to do things. he gets bored and then i start really missing being cryofrozen)
Part two of my trc/tfc crossover extravaganza as requested by about 16 humans, this is going to be a trio, so wait for chapter 3 buddds
There’s a knock on the door two seconds before Ronan slits through the doorway shoulder first. Adam feels like the contents of a cardboard box, sliced and opened.
“I fucking hate this,” Ronan says, his whole presence bunched at the entrance, coiled. “Why do I feel like they have more secrets than we do?”
Adam shuffles his feet so he’s contained to one cushion, and Ronan sits down instantly, close enough that his waves eat Adam’s ripples.
“You wanted this.”
“I wanted to play exy.”
“You wanted all of us with you,” Adam adds. “You wanted to not be the most difficult person on a team. You wanted college to be easy and the games to be hard.”
Ronan looks at him closely, then kicks backward onto the couch, head on the far armrest, legs pushing at Adam’s so that they have to occupy some of the same space.
“I don’t need another gang of thugs to tell me what I have to be.”
“Kavinsky’s crew was—“
“I’m not talking about him,” Ronan says viciously. Adam eyes him, then looks at their legs, at Ronan’s hand, lax near his thigh.
“I think,” Adam says slowly, “that it’s too soon to tell.”
Ronan’s eyes are slitted blue when Adam looks down, peering past his own knees to meet his gaze.
“Yeah okay, diplomat. Tell me what you really think.”
Adam rolls his head back, flexing his hands to hear them crack, thinking of the way Neil and Andrew paired off and put their heads together, dark and light, speaking with gestures first, silences second, words last.
“I think that we’re trying to put two plugs together, and we don’t have any sockets.”
“Pretty,” Ronan snarks. Adam ignores him.
“They don’t trust us.”
“I don’t trust them,” Ronan replies easily, and takes Adam’s hand so he’ll stop cracking and wringing.
“I don’t think any of us would qualify for the foxes if we were—“
“Easy to understand,” Adam continues. “I’ve watched the tapes, Ronan. They’re still fractured at the best of times.”
“We’re stronger,” Ronan says quietly, playing with Adam’s fingers.
“We’re good together,” Adam agrees, and Ronan pulls him down on top of him. Adam falls, and enjoys the falling quite a lot, the way Ronan’s mouth changes when he’s close. “We haven’t always been.”
“That’s Gansey’s fault. He doesn’t know how to introduce people.”
“Meanwhile you made a great case for yourself,” Adam says sarcastically, grinning when Ronan does. “So personable.”
“Hey,” Ronan says, cupping Adam’s face with both hands and squeezing. “You wanna go see what we can do on this shit campus?”
“I want to get ahead on my readings, actually. My grades have to be better than my status, because PSU has zero prestige.”
Ronan rolls him into the back of the couch and kisses him fast, rubs a thumb over the sting on Adam’s lips. “No, you want to break into the court.”
“We have the keys.”
“You want to legally enter the court,” Ronan amends, pinching Adam’s side so that his ribcage cants up.
“Yeah,” Adam says after a moment. He thinks about the burnished wood of the court and the killing heft of a racquet. He pictures Ronan and Gansey next to him, crowing victory, the sweat and rush and pitch of the finite game, the deadline he can see and count on. Exy decks him and he hits back.
“Good,” Ronan says. “I want to put a dent in their fucking foxhole.”
The lights are on when they get to the court at midnight, and Ronan lets the door fall closed hard behind them. There’s no movement, just miles of clean hallway and the hollow, lived-in feeling of a place that should be full.
They exchange looks, and walk steadily towards the heart of the building. They gear up quickly in the chill of the changing rooms, laughing at each other in their fiery oranges. Ronan musses the bandana from Adam’s hair.
They poke their way towards the court, and when they’re close enough, the screech and hammer of activity haunts the hallway.
“My bet’s on Day. He looks like he doesn’t sleep,” Ronan says, kicking the door open and catching it before it can swing back.
“That’s a pretty ironic insult, coming from you,” Adam says pointedly, and Ronan grumbles something about involuntary insomnia, but they’re already spilling out into the central court.
He regrets making it this far. He feels so blatantly redundant, a meal that’s mistakenly been delivered to a table of people who’ve already eaten.
what do you do when your chimera ex boyfriend, who is still in love with you, comes back from hell and is now working with the werewolf, who is also in love with you, and you’re not sure which one you like more? Sounds like something from a movie right? Add on a alpha werewolf brother and a bunch of professional hunters trying to kill you guys and you have my life.
“an abandoned zoo?” I questioned looking at Liam.
“it’s perfect for the plan as long as everyone does what their supposed too.” Liam said glancing at Theo behind me.
“I assume you mean me? Don’t worry I’m a big boy I can handle myself.” Theo said smirking at Liam.
“alright it’s time, call Mason.” I said looking at my watch.
The plan had to work it just had too. Theo, Liam, and myself were to lure the hunters to the zoo whilst Scott, Malia, and Lydia destroyed the guns at Gerard’s armory. Liam pulled out his phone stepping away to call Mason
“you sure this is going to work?” Theo asked stepping closer to me.
“let’s hope.” I said looking at Theo.
“look y/n..” Theo started but Liam came back around the corner making him stop.
“Nolan bought it he’s following Mason.” Liam said coming over to me.
He placed himself in between me and Theo making it very awkward. I just hoped Mason was soon here.
“well let’s say this plan doesn’t work and they catch us, do you have an escape plan? I am not dying here.” Theo said crossing his arms.
“the plan will work.” Liam said rolling his eyes.
“well what if it doesn’t are you really going to risk her life?” Theo asked pointing to me.
“she isn’t yours to worry about anymore.” Liam sassed.
I rolled my eyes at them. First of all Hello I’m standing right here!? Secondly, they were constantly fighting over me and honestly I was getting sick and tired of it. I knew I should pick someone but that was the last thing that I wanted to think about right now.
“stop both of you, here comes Mason.” I said walking away from both boys.
Mason pulled up popping the trunk open. Theo and I grabbed the blankets and pillows while Liam asked about Nolan’s whereabouts.
“should I stay to help?” Mason asked looking at all three of us.
“his friends shoot to kill, go home.” Theo said nodding at Mason.
“yeah totally, Lydia would kill me if I damaged her car.” Mason said nervously laughing.
I could tell he was worried about us.
“don’t worry Mason we’ll be okay, Nolan’s going to do the rest.” I said patting his shoulder.
“I hear the car we have to go.” Theo said grabbing my arm.
We ran in the zoo hiding behind a concrete wall. I was in between Theo and Liam making it awkward. Nolan pulled up getting out with two hunters getting out behind him.
“wait why is it only Nolan and two other guys?" Theo said looking between me and Liam.
"there should be about twenty of them where’s the backup?” I asked peeking around the corner.
“I’m telling you, I saw Mason bringing supplies here. Where is everyone else? This is a whole pack, a banshee and an alpha we need backup.” Nolan said.
The two other hunters looked at each other and then at Nolan. They didn’t believe him.
“there were at least six sleeping bags okay they’re here they’re all here.” Nolan again protested.
“they only saw us and they’re not going to believe Nolan.” Liam said frustrated.
“okay, then they have to believe us. ISN’T THAT RIGHT.” Theo said screaming the last part.
Liam and I turned around quickly, disbelief in our eyes.
“Theo why are you yelling?” I asked gripping his arm.
“YOU GOT A PROBLEM? OH RIGHT YOU ALWAYS HAVE A PROBLEM.” Theo screamed at Liam.
I looked around the corner seeing the hunters and Nolan looking at the zoo.
“dude what the hell are you doing?” Liam growled.
“SHUT UP!” Theo screamed making Liam flinch.
Theo grabbed my arm pulling me behind him before punching Liam in the face.
“YOU SEE THAT SCOTT YOUR LITTLE BETA CAN’T EVEN TAKE A PUNCH. WHAT DO YOU THINK MALIA” Theo shouted.
Liam started to breath heavily.
“Theo are sure you know what you’re doing?” I asked but I was ignored.
“YOU THINK YOU CAN TAKE ME.” Theo continued to shout.
Liam and I looked at the hunters who were very interested now.
“okay I get what you’re doing but did you actually have to punch me?” Liam asked holding his jaw.
Theo punched him again. I could hear Nolan and the hunters coming closer. It was working. They were buying it, but they still needed more convincing.
“keep going.” I said to the boys.
Liam got angry and ran at Theo. He tried to push Theo against the concrete wall but Theo reversed it.
“SEE WHAT I MEAN SCOTT? HE’S ONLY GOOD IN A FIGHT WHEN HE’S ANGRY. SO LET’S SEE JUST HOW ANGRY HE GETS.” Theo taunted Liam.
I didn’t want to be anywhere near these two fighting and honestly I probably should’ve broken it up but we needed to convince the hunters and they needed to work on getting along. I backed up as Liam growled at Theo. Theo punched him in the face again making Liam livid. They fought for a little causing a lot of commotion. Liam got a couple of good shots in breaking Theo’s nose. Finally Theo scratched Liam’s stomach and both boys collapsed pretty exhausted.
“Are you done, or should we keep going.” Liam growled looking at his shirt.
“we gotta call for backup.” one of the hunters said making me smile.
"I think they’re sold.“ I said coming over to the boys.
They both looked like hell. Liam had a bloody nose and his shirt was ripped and soaked with blood. Theo had a black and blue mark around his eye and blood dripping from his nose.
"you ripped my t-shirt.” Liam said holding his shirt.
“yeah you broke my nose. twice. it healed and you broke it again. two times.” Theo said holding up two fingers.
Liam looked at me and then Theo. Liam grabbed my arm pulling me behind him before punching Theo in the face again and knocking him to the ground.
“three times.” Liam said smirking at Theo.
I rolled my eyes. They really were ridiculous.
“come on you two, backup arriving any minute.” I said helping Theo off the ground.
“we should split up and look for the back up to come.” Liam said.
Theo nodded his head before grabbing my hand.
“what do you think you’re doing?” Liam asked looking at Theo.
“taking her with me, she’s only human and these guys shoot to kill remember.” Theo said starting to walk away but Liam grabbed my other hand pulling me back.
“which is why she’s going with me.” Liam said pulling me too him.
“I don’t think so.” Theo said pulling me back to him.
“okay I really don’t think you guys get the concept of splitting up, meaning we all go different ways.” I said rolling my eyes and pushing the boys off of me.
“you can’t protect yourself, these guys they..” Theo started but I interrupted him.
“shoot to kill yeah I know that already.” I said rolling my eyes.
“for once I agree with him. Go with one of us please.” Liam pleaded.
I rolled my eyes before taking off I could hear footsteps behind me and saw Theo catching up with me.
“you punched him didn’t you?” I asked.
“yeah.” Theo said smirking proud of himself.
We walked all over the zoo but haven’t found any sign of more people showing. We ran up a set of stairs to be met by Liam at an opening in the walls.
“there’s still three of them, it’s been half an hour.” Liam said.
“well don’t blame me, you’re the one that picked the abandoned zoo. What the hell are we doing in this place anyways?” Theo said.
“because, it’s like Mykonos.” Liam said.
“like what?” Theo said clearly confused.
“Mykonos, it’s a greek island. In the city they built these long narrow winding streets that all run in to each other. Invaders would get lost in them like a maze deciding which way to go.” I said.
both boys looked at me in shock.
“what? I enjoy history.” I said looking at both of them
Theo looked at me smiling and then surprisingly at Liam.
“I’m impressed Liam, it’s a good idea.” Theo said looking at him.
“yeah well only if the invaders actually show up.” Liam said looking defeated.
I grabbed his hand giving it a squeeze. Suddenly there were four black SUV’s pulling up to the zoo.
“I think they just showed up.” Theo said glancing down below.
I noticed the familiar faces of Gerard Argent and Tamara Monroe. I couldn’t help the rage I felt towards them. Theo grabbed my hand walking away from the opening.
“lets go.” He said to Liam.
Liam didn’t move though.
“we’re supposed to be decoys not target practice.” I said grabbing Liam’s arm but he jerked away from me making me take a step back.
“still working on that anger.” Theo asked pulling me behind him.
“I’m fine.” Liam growled.
“well you can be angry at Nolan and stay alive, come on.” Theo said grabbing his shoulder but again Liam jerked away.
“fine get caught, but I’m not dying and I’m not letting her die either.” Theo said grabbing my hand and walking away.
“Theo wait we can’t just leave him here.” I said stopping.
“He’s making his own choice. I’m not letting you get hurt.” Theo said trying to pull me with him again.
I dug my heels in the ground giving him a look.
“fine, we’ll find him.” Theo said rolling his eyes.
We walked around the zoo finally finding Liam hiding behind a tree. He was looking at someone. Nolan. Theo went up behind him yanking him back.
“if you keep staring at him like that he’s going to see you. Get back.” Theo said rolling his eyes.
Liam rolled his eyes and peered around the tree again.
“we’re not dying out here because you want revenge on some kid who kicked your ass.” Theo said pulling Liam back.
“Liam please.” I pleaded.
Liam looked at me with sympathy filled eyes. Theo grabs his arm and yanks him away.
“let go.” Liam growled.
“calm down.” Theo growled back.
“I said let go.” Liam said flashing his golden irises.
“what’s going on with you?” I asked Liam as Theo dropped his arm.
Liam was angry, I knew that but now he was just acting stupid.
“this can’t just be Nolan something around here is triggering you.” I added stepping closer to him.
Theo quickly pulled me back earning a glare from myself.
“I’m fine.” Liam said breathing heavily.
“what is it? The hunters? You don’t like cages? You scared of heights?” I added.
I could tell I was pushing it now but I honestly wanted to know.
“I said I’m fine!” Liam snapped.
I was taken back. Liam never snapped at me, no matter how angry he was. Scott used to say he was only calm when he was with me.
“y/n.” Theo said pointing behind Liam.
Suddenly Nolan appeared holding a loaded crossbow.
“their up here!” Nolan called.
Liam growled tackling Nolan off the enclosure of the zoo. Theo and I jumped back in shock. We quickly run down to where they are to see Liam wolfed out and repeatedly punching the wall behind him. Theo walks over punching Liam in the head and knocking him out.
“I’d run.” I told Nolan looking at him with hard eyes.
Theo and I drag Liam to the car setting him in the back seat. Theo starts driving away from the zoo.
“thanks for saving him.” I said glancing at Liam and then looking at Theo.
“yeah I didn’t do it because I wanted too.” Theo said glancing back at Liam.
There was an awkward silence that spread through the car. Every time Liam stirred Theo would knock him out again. Theo pulled the car to the side of the road, breathing heavily.
“are you okay?” I asked grabbing his hands.
“okay I can’t take this awkward silence. I am probably the last person in the world that deserves you, I know that, but I also know that everything I said to you, everything we had it was real it was all real. I don’t want to die, not like this, I needed to tell you how much I’m in love with you.” Theo said getting closer to me.
I was silent, taking in everything he just said. Theo looked at my lips slowly leaning forward. I didn’t know why but I leaned in too. We were about to kiss when Liam groaned loudly from the backseat.
“why are we stopped?” Liam asked sitting up and rubbing his head.
“uh we thought it was about time you woke up.” I said rubbing the back of my neck nervously.
“ouch my head hurts.” Liam said rubbing his head.
“I had to knock you out.” Theo said glancing back at Liam.
“yeah, how many times?” Liam said rolling his eyes.
“five.” Theo said smirking.
“thanks buddy.” Liam said sarcastically.
“yeah no problem pal.” Theo said still smirking.
“are you okay?” I asked turning around in my seat to look at Liam.
“No, I almost killed Nolan.” Liam said looking down at his hands.
“yeah but you didn’t you broke your hands trying not too, Liam that takes a lot of restraint.” I said giving him a smile.
“except next time you come up with a plan you probably shouldn’t pick somewhere that triggers a murderous rage.” Theo said pulling in to my driveway.
“have to agree with him there.” I said.
“I didn’t know that would happen.” Theo defended.
“you didn’t bring me along because you wanted to spend time with me Liam, the Anuk-lte is affecting you isn’t it.” Theo said looking at me and then Liam.
“it causes fear, not anger.” Liam said brushing him off.
“well Liam you only feel one emotion at a time which is why you get angry whenever you’re afraid.” I said afraid of what he might say next.
Liam took a deep breath like he was contemplating what I just said.
“If the Anuk-lte is doing that to me, what is it doing to everyone else?” Liam said looking at us.
I saw the lights turn on in my house. We walked in to be greeted by a somber mood. Liam, Theo and I looked at everyone knowing their plan didn’t work as well as ours.
“the guns they were all gone.” Chris Argent said looking down at the ground.
I stormed out of the living room feeling very defeated. I could feel the tears slip down my cheeks. I was about to loose everyone I loved and cared about. I was going to have to learn how to live without Liam and Theo and I didn’t know if I could do that. I felt someone wrapping their arms around me. I looked up and Liam was looking at me with sympathy. We stood their for a little bit just holding each other.
“I can’t lose you.” I said my voice cracking with the pain I was feeling.
“you aren’t going to lose me. I love you.” Liam said kissing my forehead.
“can I interrupt?”
I got out of Liam’s arms looking at Theo in the doorway.
“I guess.” Liam said.
Liam leaned down kissing my lips quickly. I felt my lips tingle from where he pulled his away. He walked out of the kitchen bumping shoulders with Theo. Theo rolled his eyes watching him leave.
“isn’t he pleasant.” Theo said walking over to me.
I wiped some more stray tears as they fell down my cheeks.
“are you okay?” Theo asked pulling me in for a hug.
I shook my head yes but the tears that fell down my face betrayed me.
“I just feel like no matter what we do we can’t win.” I said crying.
“we’re not giving up. we fight until we can’t fight anymore.” Theo said grabbing my shoulders.
“I have a feeling not everyone is going to make it. What if they get you? I don’t want you to leave again.” I admitted.
“please, have I ever backed down from a challenge?” Theo said giving me his famous pretty boy smirk.
“can’t say that you have.” I said laughing a little bit.
“you however are the toughest challenge I’ve faced yet.” He said wrapping his arms around me.
“me?” I questioned smirking at him.
“I feel like every time I’m close to winning you back, Liam slips right through the cracks stealing you away from me.” He said resting his forehead on mine.
“you never asked me how I feel.” I said looking in his eyes.
“how do you feel?” Theo asked smirking.
“I could show you better than I could tell you.” I smirked back.
I grabbed Theo by the back of the neck pulling his lips down on mine. He kissed me back with a passion and a hunger like he never had before. I pulled away slowly biting my lip.
“so Liam hasn’t won yet.” He said laughing.
I was about to respond when I heard the front door slam open. I grabbed Theo’s hand walking back out to living room.
“dad what are you doing here?” I questioned looking at my dad.
Scott came down the stairs looking at him too.
“the guns are gone.” our dad said looking at us.
“yeah we know." Scott said.
"no I mean they’ve been distributed to the citizens of Beacon Hills.” our dad said.
Lydia was looking far off like she was having a premonition.
“everyone get down!” She yelled.
Suddenly a bullet flew through our window. Theo yanked me down covering me with his body. Liam crawled over making sure I was completely covered. The bullets kept coming. I felt the tears rush down my cheeks as the two boys held me.
“It’ okay, it’s okay.” Theo cooed in my ear.
Nothing was okay. Finally the bullets stopped. We all sat up inspecting the damage. Theo and Liam pulled me up and everyone just stood looking at each other. That’s when I felt it. Blood. I collapsed on the floor my breathing becoming rapid.
“y/n!” Theo shouted dropping down.
“No no no.” Liam repeated tears falling from his eyes.
I had it wrong all along. I was the one going to die. Theo and Liam were going to have to learn to live without me.

“Hey, Tony. Are you down here?”
The sound of Y/N’s voice bounced off of the concrete walls of Tony’s lab as she descended the spiral staircase a few minutes past midnight. The lights in the lab were left switched on so Y/N assumed Tony had to be down there, somewhere. It wasn’t a surprise, really; Tony loved tinkering with his projects and inventions in the dead of night and even though most of the time the noise of drills and saws was annoying when everyone was trying to sleep, at times like these it was actually quite comforting.
“I’m in here!” Tony called back and Y/N followed the sound of his voice until she found him sitting behind his desk, seemingly inputting some data into four computers at once. The sight was quite amusing and Y/N found herself smiling upon hearing F.R.I.D.A.Y. urging him to slow down or maybe take a break.
“Try lecture me one more time and I swear, I’ll cut off your power supply,” Tony threatened and just like that, F.R.I.D.A.Y. decided it might be best not to say another word.
“Bickering with your own inventions? Wow, Tony. I think you might have hit rock bottom.”
The brunette chuckled at her comment and lifted his gaze as she walked around his desk and quietly slid onto it. She situated herself in front of one of the screens, her feet dangling above the tiled floor.
“What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be in bed?” Tony asked out of plain curiosity and smiled when Y/N reached for his steaming mug of coffee and took a tiny sip.
“Couldn’t sleep,” she answered simply and closed her eyes, feeling the pleasant warmth of Tony’s coffee warming up her insides. It was pretty darn cold in his lab and all she was wearing was an oversized t-shirt and some fuzzy socks.
“Is there something on your mind? You never wander around the place at night,” Tony observed and Y/N chuckled quietly.
“I do, actually.” She took another sip and placed the mug in her lap. “I just never wander near your lab or bedroom. I’ve had trouble sleeping a lot the last few months.”
Tony tore his gaze away from the screen of his computer and looked at her with mild concern in his eyes. He knew how horrible it was to not be able to fall asleep, even when you were dead tired. The idea of Y/N struggling with the same sleeping problem as him didn’t in the least bit thrill him.
“Are you sure you’re alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she told him with a small smile, then decided to change the topic. “Do you happen to have a blanket lying around here somewhere? I’m gonna freeze to death.”
Tony shook his head but then quickly remembered the grey hoodie draped over the back of his chair. Y/N thanked him quietly when he handed it to her and began to struggle to push her arms through the sleeves.
“You know, I don’t think it’s wise to be parading around an air conditioned building in nothing but a shirt. Or hanging out in a basement. These places tend to be quite chilly.”
Tony laughed and Y/N did, too, pulling the hood up over her messy hair.
“It helps me sleep,” she admitted and Tony quirked an eyebrow.
“What does? Not having pants on?”
Y/N nudged him with her hand. “No, you idiot. It’s Steve’s shirt. Being surrounded by the scent of another person helps me fall asleep.”
Tony looked at her with his brows furrowed. He kind of understood what she meant; back when he was still dating Pepper, her presence in his bed made it just that tiny bit easier to fall asleep. But knowing this didn’t stop Tony from wondering why on earth it was Steve’s shirt she was wearing.
And Y/N, noticing his confusion, decided to elaborate.
“I didn’t steal it from his laundry pile, if that’s what you’re thinking,” she giggled. “Can you imagine the lecture he’d give me about righteousness and whatnot?”
Tony could, in fact, picture it; very clearly, actually. He could almost see Steve waving his hands in the air and talking to Y/N as if she were a child who had misbehaved.
“Then how exactly did you obtain this article of clothing?” Tony wondered aloud and Y/N glanced down at what she was wearing. It was a simple white t-shirt with the American flag printed on the front. It matched her red, blue and white striped socks.
“He gave it to me when I was staying in his room a few nights ago,” she shrugged casually, not really thinking much about her next words. “I’ve been staying in his room a lot lately. It makes it easier to drift off.”
Tony pretended not to look surprised. He diverted his gaze back to the screen of his computer and began to type, though his mind was preoccupied with thoughts entirely different.
“I thought I’d be able to sleep alone one more night until he gets back from this mission, but apparently my body isn’t willing to co-operate,” she added quietly, took one last sip of Tony’s coffee and set the mug down on the desk.
Tony glanced at her from the corner of his eye, willing his expression to remain as neutral as possible.
“So, are you and Steve, like…”
Y/N quickly caught on to what he meant.
“No, of course not. We’re just friends,” she explained with a chuckle. “He doesn’t mind me waking him up in the middle of the night or helping me fall asleep, so I’ve been staying in his room. Steve is… nice.”
Tony cocked his head to the side and looked at her in slight bewilderment.
“I’m nice, too,” he noted, then turned back to his work. “And yet you’ve never asked to sleep in my bed.”
Y/N smiled, not catching his bitterness at first. She shrugged her shoulders and circled the rim of the mug with her index finger.
“I’ve never asked to sleep in your bed because you hardly get any sleep as it is,” she observed, her voice quieter than before. “I’d hate to take away what little rest you get with my silly problems.”
Tony sent her a look that screamed, “are you serious right now?” but before she could say anything, Tony was already talking.
“Your problems aren’t silly,” he reassured her, and Y/N shrugged her shoulders again.
“Steve doesn’t think so, either. It’s why he’s been letting me sleep with him,” she explained and Tony could feel anger bubbling inside of him. He didn’t like that Y/N went to Steve with her problems; he wanted it to be him she talked to.
“And since he’s gone, you’ve decided to come to me instead?” Being her second choice didn’t make Tony all that happy.
“I thought I’d find you here so we could hang out.”
Tony looked towards his computer again. He picked up his mug of coffee.
“Why don’t you call Steve, then?” He asked, then pressed the mug to his lips and muttered, “I’m sure it would do you more good that sitting here with me.”
Y/N’s brows knitted together into a frown, then a smirk took over her features.
“Wait a minute. Are you jealous?”
Tony pretended to look surprised at her assumption. He cocked his head back and expelled a forced chuckle.
“Jealous?” He asked. “Why on earth would I be jealous?”
It was obvious Y/N wasn’t buying his reaction. Tony could never hide his true feelings and even though he hated it about himself, Y/N had grown to love it.
He turned in his chair to face the monitor at the opposite end of the desk. Incidentally, it gave him an excuse to turn away from Y/N so she couldn’t see him.
“I’m not jealous. Just curious about what’s going on between you and Cap. That’s all,” he mumbled a little too slow and Y/N had to bite back her grin.
She reached out, placed her hand on the back of Tony’s chair and turned it around so that he was facing her again.
Tony appeared desperate to look elsewhere but she was right there in front of him, blocking his view.
“Are you sure?” She raised a brow, her smirk remaining. She narrowed her eyes a little and Tony gulped audibly.
It was then Y/N decided to push back her hesitation and slid off of the surface of his desk. Tony watched as she stepped closer.
“Like, are you completely positive you’re not jealous? Because, I mean, I’ve seen the way you look at me when you think I don’t notice and your eyes tell me something different.”
Tony was just about to speak, to protest, to tell her he had no idea what she was talking about, but he stopped himself when she threw her leg over his thighs and lowered herself onto his lap.
“What are you doing?” He asked, gazing up at her from beneath his lashes. The weight of her in his lap felt too satisfying for him not to feel weird about it.
“What? I’m not doing anything,” she responded innocently, but a playful grin had appeared across her lips. Tony could already see the mischief in her eyes.
“Then why have you suddenly decided to sit in my lap? I don’t think you’ve done this before.”
Y/N chuckled and Tony almost whimpered when she took hold of his wrists and led his hands to her hips. Her own soon retreated and Tony wanted to punch himself for how much he was enjoying this. There was something terrifyingly pleasurable about it.
“All I want is for you to say it,” she told him, and Tony’s brows furrowed. With the feeling of her sitting in his lap, her weight resting right where he wanted it, Tony had almost forgotten what they were talking about.
“You’re jealous because I’ve been sleeping in Steve’s bed,” she stated matter-of-factly, her fingers toying with the buttons of his shirt. She wasn’t looking into his eyes but she glanced up then, a coy smirk across her lips. “Just admit I’m right.”
Tony sighed. “I’m not going to confess to anything in the absence of my lawyer.”
Y/N pouted and the sight was so adorable Tony wanted to drop onto the floor and repeat anything she’d ask him to say.
“But it’s more fun when it’s just the two of us. Don’t you think?” Tony could almost see the wheels turning in her head. He had no clue what she was thinking or where she was going with this. The only thing he was absolutely certain of was the fact that it wouldn’t be long before she noticed the growing tent in his jeans.
“What do you mean?”
And there it was; the realisation on her face.
Tony was just about to shift in his seat in what would surely be a failed attempt to cover up his arousal but Y/N had already noticed.
She had noticed and the smirk across her face let Tony know something weird was about to happen. And it did; because soon Y/N reached behind her, placing her hands on his thighs and then lifted herself up slightly, only to sink back onto him and begin to roll her hips against him.
Tony let out a shaky breath, his fingers beginning to dig into her hips. Her smirk remained and even when Tony closed his eyes, he could see it. It was right there, printed onto the back of his eyelids, haunting him. A pathetic groan escaped his lips.
He could feel her hands sliding up his chest and to his shoulders, using them for leverage. She expelled a breath that sounded a little too much like a whine and Tony could feel his erection straining against his boxers. Truth be told, he would’ve been able to get off on that sound alone, but it wasn’t just the sound that was making his head spin; it was the feeling of her rolling her hips against him, her hands on his shoulders, her heavy breaths and the sweet smell of her perfume.
“Say it,” she demanded, leaning into him so her chest was pressed flush to his. Tony forced her down harder onto him.
“Say it, Tony. Say it or I’ll stop.”
He whined when she began to slow down. He needed more. But admitting he was jealous wasn’t something he was willing to do.
“Please,” he whimpered instead, and a knowing smirk appeared across her face. She had him wrapped around her finger and she damn well knew it. “Please don’t stop.”
She moved her hips again and Tony expelled a breath of relief. He screwed his eyes shut and threw his head back, letting another pathetic groan escape him. He was helpless and somehow, he was loving it.
“Oh, Tony,” she giggled, knowing what effect she was having on him and using it to her advantage. He could hear the superiority in her tone, knowing she had the upper hand. There was something strangely erotic about it. “If you don’t like my teasing, then why are you moaning?”
He groaned again, but this time, instead of continuing her actions, Y/N’s movements ceased completely and she grinned in satisfaction as she slid off his lap. Tony whimpered at the loss in contact and opened his eyes, watching as she turned towards his desk.
She bent over rather theatrically, her perky behind right there for him to admire, and grabbed his mug of coffee from his desk.
Tony attempted to catch his breath.
“I’ll be in my room,” she told him casually, almost as if nothing had ever happened. She took a few steps towards the door and suddenly stopped, glancing at him over her shoulder, one eyebrow cocked. “You are welcome to join me.”
