Fracking Linked to Ohio Tremors

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) said yesterday that recent earthquakes in its northeastern region were likely caused by hydraulic fracturing. Several earthquakes reaching up to magnitude 3.0 struck on March 10 and 11 in Mahoning County near the Ohio-Pennsylvania order. A nearby oil well was being ‘fracked’ at the time of the tremors. Apogee Interactive Expands Partnerships Leveraging Proven Analytics Tools Creating Operational Efficiencies

ATLANTA, Feb. 09, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Apogee Interactive today announced that it is expanding its partnership program beyond offering integrated customer service solutions to providing analytical tool sets that will improve operations at North American utility companies.

The expanded program is expected to draw a significant number of new partner companies with solutions that can be integrated with and are complementary to those currently offered by Apogee directly to hundreds of US utilities. It is also sparking innovative, new offerings from current partner relationships including Advanced Control Systems (ACS), Comverge and PayGo, among others.

“Today’s announcement is a major step in expanding our footprint as the industry’s leading supplier of energy analysis tools and customer engagement services,” says Jim Malcom, CFO, and EVP at Apogee Interactive. “Our partnership program allows us to extend far beyond our direct relationship with utilities, leveraging our proven analytical capabilities to enhance the services of leading providers of other utility solutions from energy management to demand response to pre-pay energy consumption. These combined offerings leverage our tools producing far greater benefits than these services can offer as stand-alone.”

Apogee is working closely with ACS to bring advanced energy use applications to utilities and their customers through an advanced mobile platform. ACS is combining its real-time energy management technology with Apogee’s unique energy forecaster to enable utilities to accurately model a specific consumer (load) and forecast what the impact will be on a per-feeder basis. This combination is unique in the industry and will change the way consumers plan, purchase and use energy.

In another example, the combination of Apogee’s customer targeting and messaging with Comverge’s IntelliSOURCE enables utilities to deploy demand-side management programs that deliver unmatched cost-effectiveness by targeting customers with high coincident peak loads and utilizing a single thermostat and engagement portal to drive both energy savings and peak reduction.

Apogee will provide PayGo with its energy and weather forecasting application that educates customers about the impact of weather on their energy consumption. Forecasted weather combined with historical billing data provides pre-pay energy consumers valuable insight into energy awareness and helps the utility better serve this segment of customers.

ACS (booth 1125), Comverge (booth 1811) and PayGo (booth 1935) are all exhibiting at DistribuTECH, February 9-11 in Orlando. Visit their booths to learn more about the partnership program, or contact Apogee directly at 678.684.6800 or info@apogee.net.

Comverge IntelliCONNECT Helps Utilities Easily Deploy Bring Your Own Device Demand Management Programs

NORCROSS, GA–(Marketwired - February 02, 2016) - Comverge, Inc., the leading provider of cloud-based demand response and energy efficiency solutions for electric utilities, today announced new IntelliCONNECT software that gives utilities a platform to deploy bring your own device (BYOD) demand response and energy efficiency programs. The IntelliCONNECT cloud-based software enables utilities to easily include BYOD in new or existing demand response and energy efficiency programs. IntelliCONNECT is completely integrated with Comverge IntelliSOURCE demand response management system to give utilities a single platform for managing both direct install and BYOD devices across residential and small to mid-sized business customers.

“Bring your own device is now a mandatory component of a demand management program and IntelliCONNECT enables electric utilities to easily distill high-quality, predictable megawatts from a wide variety of Wi-Fi connected devices within a service territory," said Gregory J. Dukat, Comverge Chairman, President and CEO. "BYOD programs can help utilities stay relevant with customers by providing them with increased choice and value-added services. Our new IntelliCONNECT cloud-based software enables utilities to offer both demand response and energy efficiency programs for third-party device owners."

IntelliCONNECT enables utilities to:

  • Easily distill high-quality, predictable megawatts from a wide variety of Wi-Fi connected devices within a service territory
  • Establish a secure connection with devices from numerous vendors without requiring multiple ad-hoc integration projects
  • Forecast and dispatch diverse devices taking into account different device capabilities, program restrictions, and equipment behavior
  • Manage asset lifecycle including marketing, enrollment, branding, and settlement

"Our pioneering Energy Select price-based demand response program has been a tremendous success for Gulf Power in terms of reducing generation needs, better using existing capacity, and enhancing customer satisfaction and value,” said Caroline Wilson, Energy Select Team Lead, Gulf Power. “We are very excited to work with Comverge on adding a BYOD approach to Energy Select in order to drive improved program cost-effectiveness and expand the reach of the program to customers in our service territory with Wi-Fi connected thermostats.”

Demand response and energy efficiency programs that utilize a bring your own device (BYOD) approach to include devices already in a customer’s premise benefits utilities and customers alike. Utilities can expand demand response capacity with lower marketing and installation costs, while also engaging with their customers about energy efficiency. Customers benefit from comfort, convenience and energy savings with a device that they chose to purchase in addition to the financial incentives of utility demand response and energy efficiency program participation.

Continued Dukat, “Our marketing expertise, having enrolled more than two million customers into demand management programs, helps us enable a smooth transition for customers adding BYOD to their programs. And our direct install business complements a BYOD program, enabling utilities to create load at scale with one vendor, on one software platform.”

In addition to today’s announcement, Comverge also announced IntelliCONNECT integration with Honeywell and Pro1 thermostats.

Comverge and Honeywell Team Up to Provide Electric Utilities Four New Thermostat Options for Bring Your Own Device Demand Management Programs

NORCROSS, GA–(Marketwired - February 02, 2016) - Comverge, Inc., the leading provider of cloud-based demand response and energy efficiency solutions for electric utilities announced today that they are working with Honeywell to deliver a solution that provides utilities four new thermostat options for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) demand response and energy efficiency programs. Comverge is integrating its IntelliCONNECT software with Honeywell’s Wi-Fi smart thermostats to give electric utilities the ability to control and communicate with Honeywell thermostats within its service territory.

Utilities deploying BYOD programs can now use Comverge IntelliCONNECT to communicate with consumer-purchased Honeywell Wi-Fi connected thermostats, including the Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat, Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control, Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Touchscreen Thermostat, and the Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat. IntelliCONNECT enables precise forecasting of available load for control events from these Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostats, taking into account different device capabilities, program restrictions, and equipment behavior.

Using telemetry data from the Honeywell thermostat and meter data, IntelliCONNECT can also enable the utility to deliver energy saving tips that can provide substantial financial benefits to their customers. This enables the utility to further engage the customer by providing incremental value-added services to consumers who purchased a Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat.

“We are committed to helping electric utilities deploy successful BYOD programs that deliver substantial operational benefits as well as create more engaged, satisfied customers,” said Gregory J. Dukat, Comverge Chairman, President and CEO. "The unique capabilities of our IntelliCONNECT cloud-based software combined with the broad market reach of Honeywell gives utilities a great option when deploying a BYOD demand response program. These programs create a powerful customer engagement offering that helps utilities stay relevant with their customers, but they are less capital intensive than traditional demand response programs.“
