compass north

@fern-goddess In response to your question to my other blog, these are the meanings behind the sigils/seals, hope this helps
If you hypothetically want to cross the border from the USA into Canada, say around Manitoba

This weekend is going to be warmer than most. I mean, if you hypothetically wanted to cross, this would be the hypothetical weekend to hypothetically cross.

Also, you should, if this is your hypothetical plan(I’m sure no one is actually planning this. Just theorizing. It’s a fun thought exercise), hypothetically dress in layers. It’s still cold, after all.

Hypothetically, wool and down are the best materials to wear. Hypothetically, you should also have sturdy, warm boots. Ski pants help, too. Make sure your hypothetical journey include mitts and gloves. Scarves and hats, too, you want to expose as little skin to the elements as possible if the weather turns nasty, or if you get delayed and have to cross next week, or something.

Following this thought exercise, you should have a compass. Stay walking North.

Theoretically it might be best to keep walking, in this game, until you reach a road, then keep going until you reach a town or city. Give your imaginary city a name, like, say, Brandon, or Winnipeg!

Have fun rp-ing, dudes, and stay safe!

Feysand Growing up HC

-What if Rhys and Feyre were raised in Velaris together?

-Being economically successful, Feyre’s father is close friends with the High Lord. Both  their respective wife and mate have children around the same time.

-The Merchant’s daughter and the High Lord’s son are practically raised in unison.

-They nap together. They take their first steps together. They’re potty-trained together. They share toys as toddlers. They finger paint together. They take naps together. They take lessons from Rhys’s mother. Basically, they live together.

-When they’re 3 months old, they’re sharing a crib and boom the bond clicks. Though, not so boom because they’re babies and they don’t feel it.

- Their parents don’t know because the only thing they notice is that their kids are now sleeping right next to each other.

-They become an iconic childhood duo.

-The one thing everyone wonders, though, as the two run down the Rainbow, is “When is their mate bond gonna snap?”

-Feyre and Rhys can’t tell, they just believe that this is what a best friend is supposed to be like, since Rhys’s parents are their only mate example.

-When Rhys starts to learn how to fly, Feyre is pissed. Her dialogue for two weeks is a relentless stream of “This is not fair.” “Why do you get to fly?” “You’re not even grateful, you prick.” “I want to fly.” “Why can’t you take me with you?”

-Rhys, being a child, sticks his tongue out at her.

-Momma Rhys watches from the kitchen. Once Feyre storms out, she calls to Rhys, “You are not my boy if you don’t go out of your way to take a female in your life flying.”

-Momma trains her son real quick in the art of carrying someone else while flying.

-The dispute is solved.

-After years of the best childhood ever, Rhys’s mom declares that she’s raising her son as an Illyrian.

-Feyre and Rhys say their goodbyes, and when he’s finally gone it hurts

-They both write it off as distance from their best friend.

-For a few years, they remain pen pals.

-”Remember that savage, Cassian? We are starting to get along.”

-”My sister Nesta is becoming almost intolerable now. I miss your mom.”

-”My mother says hello. She misses you too. We have a new addition in our home. His name’s Azriel. He’s very quiet.”

-”I wish you could come and take me flying.”

-Slowly, they piddle out until one of these letters becomes the last.

-Feyre’s family loses their status, not to the starving devastation of ACOTAR, but enough so that they fall out with the High Lord.

-Rhys finds comfort in Cassian, Azriel, Mor, and Amren. Feyre becomes a recluse, until the tale of the Merchant’s daughter and the High Lord’s son becomes an obsolete story.

-Feyre and Rhys try romantic relationships with others, but they always fall short.

-Years later, after the blood rite, Rhys returns from the camps.

-A large party is thrown in his honor, and neither looks for one another.  But, like a compass that always points North, somehow the two find each other.

-It’s as if they were spinning in circles for years, stumbling, trying to recover, until they smile at each other.

-The looks hits hard, only comparable to the instant when the world seems rightside-up again after all that turning.

-It’s a night like no other. Years have passed, but they recognize each other. Conversion is easy. They don’t sleep, talking all night.

-When he leaves again and the pain that faded all those years ago becomes incredibly strong once more, they know.

-Rhys doesn’t even question his duties before he hauls ass back to Velaris letting the tug in his chest drag him through the city.

-She sits alone at a café, slowly nursing a tea to ignore the ache growing in her chest.

-No thoughts pass through his mind as he dives down and collides at full force with the street outside the little fence that surrounds the café patio.

-A large cloud of dust forms. People scream and hide. Chaos ensues for fear of attack.

-Feyre stands calmly, throws a leg over the fence, and walks into the cloud.

-Rhys looks around like a wildcat for her.

-She sees him. She loses her breath. A cataclysmic force runs through both of them as the bond snaps fully at their eye contact.

-”There you are. I’ve been looking for you.”

-They’re in each other’s arms. They’re flying. They’re laughing. They’re kissing because oh gods it makes sense. All the years, the friendship, the pain. It makes sense.

-”I can’t believe it,” Rhys says, breathless in-between kisses, “it was you. All this time it was you.”

-More kissing, sloppy kisses as they grin like fools.

-”I’m glad it’s you,” Feyre whispers.

-He leans his forehead on hers. “Me, too. Darling. Me, too.”

i. you touch him and it’s like a war. the burning in your bones overpowers your mind and your heart pounds like the drums calling soldiers to the bloodbath. it’s violent and visceral and you feel some part of you latch onto to his skin, a mark left on you for the stars to find when they uncover your story.

ii. he smiles at you and the stars become surpassed in what brings you light. it’s all teeth but there’s a hint of joy in the way his mouth moves around you. the sun’s blaze turns to ash and you feel warm and wanted. you are living in the darkness until his grin finds yours and from that moment, everything in you is made with his echoes.

iii. his voice becomes your compass, becomes your truth north. his voice is the one you can pick out in the middle of the crowd, in the middle of the battle because it is the map to home. the sound of your name coming off his lips is your anchor and without his voice you would drown, down to bottom of the endless ocean.

iv. his eyes are dark enough to fall in. his eyes hold the torment he has been through and you wish you could heal his scars but you can only try to take away some of the ache. his eyes would make the deities of the ancient world throw themselves into the pit to prevent anymore loss. his eyes find yours and the colors of the universe seem brighter, seem softer, seem more beautiful.

v. you love him. that is what the pounding of your heart sings. you love him from this universe to the next and the constellations will yearn to chart your story and the history books will place your names side by side and it will never be enough. because you love him and even after death, you’d find him.

The Book of Dust Volume 1: La Belle Sauvage is released in one week!

It also happens to be Philip Pullman’s birthday

(Apparently it was a coincidence that both events fell on the same day - but what a coincidence that is!)

We’re so excited. It’s a book (now three!) 17 years in the making, and this is only the very beginning. There will be two more books to look forward to down the line.

If you want to brush up on your HDM knowledge, a reread is always timely. Did you know that some editions have so called Lantern Slides - small text pieces of information of what happens to characters or places during, after or before the story? Or that some editions have letters, news paper articles and postcards from characters within the novels - and other worlds?

If you want a quick-version of a reread, did you know that there is a graphic novel version of Northern Lights?

If you haven’t read any of the companion books, this is also an excellent time to buy them or get them from the library, to catch up on everything there is to know before the release. There are three of them: Lyra’s Oxford (takes place a few years after The Amber Spyglass. Contains maps and postcards and extras), Once Upon a Time in the North (a story about our favourite aeronaut and our favorite armoured bear) and The Collectors (almost a ghost story, but not quite. A story about two collectors, and two pieces of art. A bronze sculpture of a monkey and a portrait of a young woman. They always seem to follow each other. First released as an audio book, narrated by Bill Nighy).

Or why not simply share your excitement here on tumblr? We’ll try to reblog as much of the hype as possible!

So prepare yourself. Cozy up with a blanket, or in your favorite reading spot, and settle down.

We’re almost there. It’s nearly time.

No one knows, but I look for you in a crowd: the flame I turn my eyes to when everything is spinning. When everything is chaos, you’re still the north my compass finds time and time again. We are noiseless but we are loud in our own way: flashing neon, spotless dancefloors and the cool fingers against my skin.
