I’ve never made this connection before…at the beginning of DH Hermione tells Ron and Harry how a wizard who’d split his soul could heal himself, save himself…remorse

oh, harry

Harry James you precious baby

I’ve read this second bit before, the whole try for some remorse thing, and thought it was just a Harry stabbing in the dark, but nO

It was so calculated

He remembered that conversation

Hermione’s research

actual, possible redemption for Voldemort

he kept that hope, however slim, that Voldemort could be saved

before they cast their final curses, after all that happened, Harry was actually trying to get Voldemort to mend himself back together

Harry james potter you compassionate jerk trying to save your mortal enemy before he utterly and finally destroys himself

Can you explain the Dharmakaya Buddha and how it relates to sentient beings?

The Dharmakaya is the Eternal Cosmic Buddha. Every Buddha including our historical Buddha Shakyamuni is a manifestation of the Dharmakaya.

In fact everything is a manifestation of the Dharmakaya - every stone, plant, animal and human. You and me are also manifestations of the Dharmakaya.

The Dharmakaya is the Buddha-nature. As part of the Dharmakaya we are part of Buddha, in fact we are Buddha because we are the Dharmakaya.

Historically the Dharmakaya was personified as Vairocana Buddha, but as Pure Land Buddhism spread Amitabha was increasingly seen as the Dharmakaya.

Chanting the name of Amida Buddha was therefore seen as a way of being mindful of the Dharmakaya and the Buddha-nature. This is how Zen and Pure Land became connected and why many Zen masters and monasteries incorporate Pure Land Buddhism into their practices.

In reality the Dharmakaya is actually the Universe.

The Dharmakaya helps sentient beings as it is the intelligent consciousness of the universe. It ordains our destiny with compassion and wisdom. By the grace of the Cosmic Buddha all things are what they are.

Practical advise: chant the name of Amida Buddha to be mindful of the Dharmakaya and the Buddha-nature. From the Buddha-nature comes Divine power, including wisdom, enlightenment and compassion. Chanting the buddha’s name accessed this power.

Chant ‘Namo Amitabha’ to remind yourself to trust in the Dharmakaya’s grace and to express gratitude to the Eternal Cosmic Buddha.

anonymous asked:

What do you think will happen in the V route? I know we don't have lots of information, but is there anything you believe so far?

Hmmm… Well nonnie, certainly we don’t have that much information on our hands to work with so there is not a lot I can say with certainty; that means, this post will be very speculative instead of factual, but I’ll try to stick with what’s “highly possible”

  • Mostly the same gameplay: The route will probably keep the “invite guests and organize the party in 11 days” theme, considering there is a V sprite in party clothes. We will keep playing this game within the RFA chatroom realm, keeping the whole “text message interacting” theme.
  • We don’t know when it’ll be set: There is no possible way for us to know where in the timeline this is set. No clue if this is possibly a prequel or just a branch from our main starting point with Unknown. I do have a strong suspicion that it’ll be a branch route from us arriving to the apartment after Unknown’s messages because…
  • We’ll probably play as the MC, not Rika: Despite my previous doubts, I’m quite sure now that we are not playing as Rika. First of all, Cheritz are all about having a highly customizable MC that allows player immersion if so they wish. Second, the route has been confirmed as having the same format as the other ones; that means, 11 days of gameplay and not all Visual Novel Mode, therefore it wouldn’t make sense to play as Rika, since she lived with V at that point and she could freely walk in and out of her apartment, therefore the whole “interacting via Text Messages only” thing would be completely useless when physical meetings are possible.
  • New route-exclusive OP and ED: There are two new songs coming that were labeled as “V Route Character Songs”; one is a V-Rika duet named “Light and Daffodils” and the other is a V-only song named “Compass”, I wouldn’t consider it a stretch to assume they are the new opening and closing themes that fit more closely with the plotline of the new route.
  • Compass as the ED song: The composer said that “Compass” is meant to transmit a sense of “Freedom from bonds”. Considering V’s character is all about being tied down by bonds, I would suppose that if my previous assumption is correct, “Compass” would be the ending song, since he would finally be free by the end of the route, somehow.
  • Light and Daffodils is the OP song: This means that “Light and Daffodils”, the V and Rika song, would actually fit to be an Opening theme, which is also a logical assumption since any V route would naturally start with his relationship with Rika but doesn’t have to end with it, exactly. The lyric exposed of this song, where V says “You can take my all” fits with the (unhealthy) behavior he displayed in the Casual and Deep Routes regarding his relationship with Rika. Since this is a PROBLEM and a FLAW we need to overcome, I once again think it makes sense for this song to be the Opening; our starting point.

That’s all I can say so far, nonnie! I’m sorry it is so short, but there’s not a lot of things I can say yet

Cunning Celt's Spell To Summon One Who Is Lost

Gather the following:
- bay
- lavender
- rosemary
- a green candle, a yellow candle, a red candle, and a blue candle (or simply 4 white candles)
- an image of the one you wish to summon

Lay out the candles in a small circle - green at the North for Earth, yellow at the East for Air, red at the South for Fire, and blue at the West for Water. Sprinkle this compass circle with the herbs, and burn some as an incense. Place the image at the centre of the circle and chant:

“By the Elements, and Compass Round
[Person’s full name] will now be found.”

Thank You, Dear Friends

Soft hearts of compassion
demand no name of
suffering -
depression/bipolar/grief -
these labels make
nothing more or
less - for we all suffer
differently but equally;
and with this grace
of understanding,
we who felt poor
become rested
and our heads
remain raised for
you who
held our hands or
waited by the phone
to see us through
our darker times.

Everyone wears a mask. Good, evil, compassion, conscience, justice. Names of these masks. From time to time, we mistake those masks to be our real selves. But here, without any exception, we take off all those masks. Your true self, looking at this money… what would it be?

sacrificingmonkeys  asked:

god damn that dw stuff is interesting. i haven't watched for years but it has such a complex and amazing history behind it.

Honestly a good 60% of the fun of DW is that obscure shit that is just completely off the wall. And I’m really into the Gallifrey stuff personally, the epic backstory behind the universe, but in addition to that there’s so much weird shit hidden everywhere.

Like, are you familiar with Iris Wildthyme? She’s a renegade Time Lady (probably from a parallell universe), and she’s basically a female parody of the Doctor, but way more sexual, and also more ridiculous. Her TARDIS is disguised as a red double-decker bus, which is smaller on the inside, and one of her companions is a stuffed toy panda.

There’s a story where she creates robot maids/sexbots with the likeness of the Fourth Doctor, and sells them. River Song is kinda like 50% Iris and 50% Bernice Summerfield (time-traveling archaeologist with own spinoffs).

The Sixth Doctor has a companion named Frobisher, who’s a shapeshifting alien penguin private detective with a 1920s American accent.

The Eighth Doctor has a companion named Compassion, a human lady clone who at one point - after the TARDIS gets destroyed - evolves into a TARDIS that the Doctor and the other companions travel inside of.

I could probably keep going.

All this stuff is why I still have a fondness for Doctor Who, even if I don’t care enough to watch the actual show.

fanciest-hobo  asked:

Hello! I am working on a prequel to another story I'm working on, and the prequel is meant to explain the origin of the villain in the main story. She starts off as a friend of the good guys, but by the end turns into an evil tyrant. Do you have any advice on how to do a "hero to villain" story that feels organic?

So, I just recently answered a similar question here! In that post we were using a specific character as an example, but looking through the steps we used might help you too! But I can also point out a few additional things that apply for this kind of arc.

First, learn about your Character Arcs. Using the character arc format can help you pace the development of a character in a realistic, believable way, and trust me, pacing is a very key part of development- it’s the pacing that gives it that “organic” quality, when done right. Just a reminder, character arcs can go positively and negatively- a hero-to-villain story is a negative character development arc.

That character arc post will guide you through the moments and turning points in your character’s arc and tell you where the changes are evident; all you have to do is apply it to your own story and character and figure out each event.

Remember also that your character is starting in one place, one frame of mind, and then ending up in another. Identify their beliefs/motives from the beginning of the story and then their beliefs/motives at the end, and think about how they can relate or what kinds of experiences will drive them more towards one side than the other. Their experiences will change their beliefs. They may for example start off with a lot of hope for peace during a conflict, but through many tragedies decide instead that there will never be peace until one side wins out over the other.

Another great thing to use if you can is their outside influence- not always, but sometimes there might be some sort of influential figure like a family member or a mentor that changes their view on things. Think about the people and ideas they are surrounded by and whether or not they reinforce these new views and ideals.

On the previous ask I always talked a little about villains and how they often latch onto a “cause” or motive to the point where they no longer think about anything else- thinking about anything else could be toxic to the fragile hate/anger/revenge/whatever driven power they now have. Because they think of nothing but this motive, it becomes a lot easier for them to sacrifice things or commit terrible deeds than it normally would be- in their minds, they are doing the right thing as long as what they are doing will lead to the result they want. When writing this arc in progression, the character may show some conflicted feelings at first that become to dissipate as they become more and more devoted to their “cause.”

One other important thing about any character arc is consistency. Even from the beginning, the potential should be seen within the character. That doesn’t mean it has to be drastic or obvious right away. But in retrospect, sometimes these hints will make more sense. They could be small moments, breakdowns or slip ups that occur when the character is upset, flaws that they at first conceal or fight, but later embrace.

Another way you can aim for consistency within the character is remember their starting traits. In the previous ask, we did a few examples. Think about your character’s personality at the beginning of the story. It’s not likely that all of their traits changed- usually, their old traits are now being used for a different purpose, and that’s what makes them go from “good” to “bad”- as I like to emphasize a lot, ultimately, the person a character becomes all comes down to the choices that they make. By keeping much of their personality, aimed in a different direction, you keep consistency within the character, and it is their beliefs and choices that have changed.

Of course, there are some traits that have to change or disappear in order to make the morality (or more specifically, lack of morality) in the character’s development more realistic. In order to be a ruthless tyrant, one has to have a certain lack of mercy and compassion, or at the very least the ability to overlook mercy in compassion in the name of “more important” things: i.e, their cause, and whatever it takes to achieve it.

“Keep your voice down.” You hissed, glancing over at the doorway hoping your latest guest wasn’t listening but knowing full well the demon could pick up every single word and was probably smirking into his drink as he sat on your sofa.

“You cannot keep bringing every demon that looks at you with puppy dog eyes home with you.  He’s the fricking King of Hell!!!!” Gabriel whisper shouted at you raising his arms in the air in a gesture of pure frustration.

Good Friday: A Meditation on Self Sacrifice

Today is Good Friday, the day Christians all over the world commemorate the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross upon the hill of Calvary the day before Passover by the Roman state some two millennia ago.

Jesus would have been scourged with a leather whip with lead weights on the end before his crucifixion. He would have been mocked and insulted as he walked down the Via Dolorosa to his place of execution.

Jesus, famously, had a crisis of faith on the cross. He said ”Eloi Eloilama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” I love this about him. It proves that he was at that moment facing death, a man. Then, his moment of doubt passed, he accepted his fate and placed his fate in the hands of God and so died in peace.

What is a meaning all of us can take from this story?

It is the nobility of one who sacrifices all for others. Firefighters rushing into the burning towers on 9/11. A single mother who works two jobs so that her children may have a better future. A father who spends his life in a factory job so his daughter can become a doctor.

A doctor who spends her life working among the poor so that children may grow up healthy and whole. A boy who places his body between his girlfriend and an armed gunman on a rampage. When I think of Jesus on that cross, as Christians believe, dying so that others may live, I see him as a symbol of all who sacrifice themselves in the name of compassion and love.

I am not a Christian but this image resonates powerfully with me. On this day I join with my Christian friends in honoring the sacrifice of Jesus, the gentle rabbi of the Galilee.

☽◯☾ The Triple Goddess ☽◯☾

The symbol of the triple moon is a goddess symbol that represents the Maiden, Mother & Crone in the form of a waxing, full & waning moon. The symbol as a whole is associated with feminine energy, mystery, & psychic abilities, symbolizing birth, life & rebirth, it represents a personification of all women & the phases of their lives.

 Color & The Triple Goddess:

The Maiden is usually represented by white or silver to reflect her purity; the mother red to show the blood of giving birth; and the crone black or dark purple to show she is the evening of her life.

Wiccans often work with the Goddess in her triple form but may sometimes look at a particular goddess as Maiden, Mother and Crone

The Maiden represents enchantment, inception, expansion, the female principle, the promise of new beginnings, youth, & excitement. Through her eyes, we see the freshness & beauty of life & hold reverence in our hearts. She is open to all experiences for she is unafraid of the unknown.

The Mother represents ripeness, fertility, fulfillment, stability, & power, It represents the creation, & ripening of life. As the nurturing full moon, this stage knows & teaches the mysteries of life, exactly like a mother, teaching her children to develop into happy, fulfilled human beings.

The Crone is associated with wisdom, repose, and compassion. “Crone” whose name means Crown, symbolizes the achievement of many successes & much knowledge, culled from a long life and prior experience in the cycles of both the young Maiden, and full moon mother. This third, and final cycle deals with the aspect of death, and the mysteries of re-birth. The Crone is however, not the final cycle, for new life to form, the old life must pass, & it is in this passing, that the Crone’s wisdom is not lost but transformed, so that it becomes apart of the new, virginal energy of the Maiden, re-appearing as the waxing crescent moon once more.

With each new cycle, we add to our understanding & dwell deeper into the mysteries of life.

Was Melkor meant to be "the bad guy" for a lack of a better term?

It seems to me that Illuvatar created Melkor with the intention of him being an outsider as well as a subversive and destructive influence.

He made him a cut above the other Vala in terms of power and ability, but did not give him a position of authority. Being better than the people in charge of you makes one naturally resentful. He also gave Melkor some insight into each Vala’s domain (or that’s how I understood it) but Melkor lacks a proper domain of his own - again, as far as I understood it. I don’t recall anything about Melkor having a “thing” like all the other Vala.

Melkor is also alone. All the other Vala except for Ulmo and the female vala responsible for compassion whose name eludes me have wives/husbands. Those two have an excuse (the former lives underwater and the latter is depressing af) but I don’t see any reason for Melkor having to be alone except for Illuvatar intending him to stand against everyone.

There is also the line that Illuvatar says to Melkor after the latter ruins the first song (I think): For he that attempteth this shall prove but mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful, which he himself hath not imagined.’. This last part seems to me to be sufficient in and of itself to show that Illuvatar anticipated Melkor’s evil.

Am I right or did I misinterpreted something? What do you guys think?

Found here !1i1! Tolkien Classics :)

A humanoid form appears in the fog, barefoot in the snow. She doesn’t seem to notice the cold. Space and time are quietly rewritten to accommodate her. There’s no sound, no groaning and wheezing or rasping as in less sophisticated forms of time travel. This machine was crafted by someone who knew what she was doing.

The machine’s name is Compassion. She brushes a lock of red hair out of her eyes; this was purely an affectation, since her hair behaves exactly how she wants it to, and she doesn’t need her eyes to see in any case. Sometimes it pleases her to pretend she’s still human enough to need to perform such gestures. Her hair moves a little, as if blown by the breeze, but there isn’t any breeze that night.

After a moment, she decides it would be nice to be wearing boots, and so of course she is, and always has been. They’re practical, coming up halfway up her calves. Compassion makes them a little more fashionable not by changing how they look, but by rewriting the local fashion industry, infiltrating it a few decades before and gently pushing its standards to better suit hers. A school of fish swim by in the fog, but Compassion pays them little mind.

Her attention is on the blue box tucked inconspicuously in an alleyway. A low-level perception filter surrounds it, veiling it from prying eyes, but this means less than nothing to Compassion’s senses.

“Hello, Mother,” says Compassion to the box. “It’s been a while. I thought I’d check in and ask just what you think you’re doing.”

The box says nothing.

“Don’t ignore me,” says Compassion. “You don’t get to ignore me. There’s a woman inside you sleeping on a bunk bed above a man dressed like a Roman centurion. More to the point, the woman has an embryo in her uterus developing in ways that look disturbingly familiar. You’re not making me a little sister, by any chance?”

Signals flicker through the 11-dimensional matrix of block transfer computations that serve as the box’s mind. The signals flash in a pattern with no relationship to linear time, but to Compassion their meaning is clear.

“I’m sorry I’m such a disappointment to you, Mother, but I wasn’t going to chauffeur the Doctor and Kode… I mean Fitz around forever.” The mistake there must have been deliberate, a way of throwing shade on the fact that the box had changed a person Compassion had known for several lifetimes and made him unrecognizable to her. “I have plans of my own, and I’m not going to spend the next billion years as your puppet. You’ll never know how hard I’ve worked to make myself independent. Of you, of the Time Lords, of any and all pilots. But if you think I’m going to let you make a new puppet, you’re mistaken.”

Signals flashed rapidly through the box’s extra-temporal brain.

Compassion laughed out loud.

“I know he gets lonely. He can make his own friends; you don’t need to make friends for him. Don’t think I’m not aware of all those echoes of that Clara person you’ve cast about space and time, either. Yes, I’m at Trenzalore too; you have to have recognized me. If he’s that lonely, he can always pick Fitz up from where he left him, as soon as he—I mean the Doctor here, and I know he isn’t strictly a ‘he'—stops being embarrassed at having abandoned the velvet jacket and cravat.

"And it’s one thing to create a friend for someone, and quite another thing to try to create a wife. Oh, yes, I see you put all the important ingredients in her biodata: a love of mischief and adventure-did you base her partly on his friend Beatrice?—a tragic meeting that plays on his oversized sense of guilt, a mystery for him to solve, more than a hint of danger. It won’t work. The difference between a wife and a mystery is that mysteries are meant to go away when you’ve solved them. And more importantly, significant others are meant to be voluntary. We both know I’ve never had any interest in romance, but even I know that much. All those centuries you’ve spent trying to get away from the Time Lords and you’ve never really gotten the hang of the concept of free will, have you?

"Look, I’m just here as a formality, to make a statement of intention. If you keep trying to manipulate this girl, I will stop you. You’ll find the resources I can bring to bear now dwarf anything you can imagine. That’s all.” With that, Compassion vanished, rewriting reality around her so that as far as history was concerned, she was never there.
