comparing your self

Just because you don’t look like somebody who you think is attractive doesn’t mean you aren’t attractive. Flowers are pretty, but so are sunsets and they look nothing alike.

You’re not going to be happy all the time. No one ever is. Sometimes you’re just going to sort of exist, and that’s okay.

Learn to be satisfied with “content” and “calm” and “not sad.” Not sad is good.

Not sad is great.

—  happiness is awesome, but the universe doesn’t revolve around a smile

I'm currently having a dilemma were I feel like I'm "too late" to cosplay. As if, everyone who is already cosplaying has mastered it and become presentable, where as I'm just starting out and don't even light a candle to most of the crowd. I really adore everyones craftsmanship, and it's an incredible hobby to be apart of. But no matter how many tutorials I see I feel like I simply don't have the skill/talent to put together a cosplay, or as if I can't be a beginner. Has anyone been thru this?

Hello there!

Sorry that you feel that way about cosplay. It should be something fun, but if you feel inadequate, that can take away from it.

Know that it’s perfectly okay to be a beginner. Cosplay is a growing hobby, and people are getting into it all the time. There’s no shame in being new! I’d guess that the cosplayers who are relatively new at a con probably vastly outnumber those who have been doing it for 5+ years (who outnumber those of us who have been doing it 10+ years, etc.). Just remember that there’s a reason why you see so many “cosplay 101″ panels at cons, and why help sites like this one can exist: because so many people are getting into the hobby or looking for ways to get into the hobby that this kind of thing can be sustained.

The thing about skill is that it’s something that comes with practice. No one is amazing at something on their first try. It takes time and experience to get good at something, and it’s hard work. You can’t compare yourself to someone who has been cosplaying for a number of years and has more skills and more resources than you. Only compare yourself to your previous self. Did you learn how to make a new type of clothing, even if it’s not perfect? Great! Your next version will be better. Did you have a problem with something and it didn’t turn out? That can be discouraging, but you learned something from it, and now you can apply that knowledge to future projects. Reading tutorials will only get you so far. You have to actually do things.

Also, there’s no shame in starting small. You want to get into cosplay but can only do minimal sewing? Modify pre-made garments. This can also help you learn how things are constructed. Make simple outfits to begin with. Most complex costumes are just lots of simpler sewing techniques put together, and while this takes time to do, it can help to think of a more complex outfit as smaller pieces rather than as a big complex whole. Your first cosplay doesn’t have to be (and shouldn’t be!) a super elaborate hand-beaded Sakizou design, for example, or a full suit of armor. Learning how to make simple things so that they fit well and have clean construction will be much more useful and much more impressive in terms of construction than trying to tackle something far outside your skill level.

It also helps to take things slowly and set reasonable goals. Say you want to make a whole costume in a year. Set a goal so that you make the skirt one month, the bloomers another month, the top another month, and the accessories another month. Take your time with the items, and remake them if needed. Break down each piece into even smaller pieces – make your goal for that week to learn to sew a zipper, or learn to sew elastic, and then work your way up to the more complex princess seams on the top, and then the more complex boning in the top, and then the most complex item, such as a small bit of embroidery. Make mockups and practice pieces (I /still/ make practice pieces for new techniques) so that you can do the technique a few times before doing the final piece. Learning skills in small, manageable chunks will make it less overwhelming, and you’ll learn how to put things together in a practical way that can then be applied to a more complex outfit next time.

You can also enter a contest that has a beginner skill division. Ask for advice from the judges on how to improve. Attend a con in normal clothes or a storebought costume and see how you feel about that. Take some of the pressure off, and refocus a bit on other aspects of cosplay before tackling a project.

Also, keep in mind that a lot of what you see online and the viral images you see of cosplays are the “best” images – the most impressive construction, the best photography, and any “flaws” are often hidden in creative photography or photoshopped out, etc. (Of course, “best” is super subjective here, and there is no “best” way to cosplay, hence the quotes, but I think my meaning is clear.) The average cosplay at a con doesn’t look like that, certainly not while walking around the floor, and there are a lot of beginners around, or people who cosplay for reasons other than the construction, and there is nothing wrong with that. I’d actually recommend looking at con coverage photos and videos, or digging through the tags for local cons. You’ll often see photos here that are hall shots (not staged photoshoots), usually taken by fans of the series because they like the character, not because the cosplayer looks like they just stepped off a movie set. Look at photos and videos of crowds and gatherings. You’ll see a lot of cosplayers there of all skill levels – you’ll fit right in no matter what your costume looks like.

And hey, a lot of attendees will see your costume and be amazed by it even if you only see flaws! People are often just excited to see their favorite characters, or don’t notice all of the tiny things that went “wrong” that you might.

It can be hard to deal with feeling of inadequacy, but you’ll get to the level of skill you want to be at faster than you think if you continue to work at it. Here’s the secret: a lot of artists (cosplayers included) are hardest on their own work. Even someone like me, who has been cosplaying for nearly 15 years, deals with these feelings. The secret to overcoming it is not to look at other people’s work (”this person is at a way higher level than I am and they just started!” or “I’ll never make anything that amazing!”), but to look at how far you’ve come, and what you are proud of in your own work. I’m a pretty practical person, so if I ever do feel that kind of inadequacy, I usually stop, identify where I can improve, and set out to do those specific things. Even then, you will see your flaws, while others will see your strengths. Learn to identify your strengths and appreciate them, and work on the things that you see as flaws. Know that no one can do everything perfectly, and learn to embrace that.

I mention my own experiences here because you sound like the kind of cosplayer I am. I’m the type who has the most fun with the construction aspect of it, and has fun trying to plan out and problem solve a cosplay, and then showing off all my hard work. Not everyone places as much personal importance on those aspects of the hobby, so this kind of advice doesn’t really apply to those who have different versions of fun. This answer isn’t meant to be a “you have to have good construction to be a good cosplayer” response, but since you specifically want advice on construction skill, I would guess that you’re the type who likes to make things.

You’ll get there, but remember that you are always allowed to be at the skill level you are at. Always.

9 toxic behaviours that will affect your life

1) Gossiping.

We all do it. Some of us more than others. We talk about the girl next door or the new guy that just started working here. We talk about how the Brown’s just split up and “Did you hear why they separated?” Did you know that when we talk about people it shows an insecurity or jealousy in us? Boom. Where are you lacking in your life that you feel the need to cut down someone else’s life? Have a think about that for a moment.

There’s no point or purpose to this. Who are you lying to and why? It doesn’t even make any sense to do this and I still don’t understand why so many people still lie. You think the truth hurts, check out a lie. Nothing hurts more than that.

3) Worrying about things that haven’t happened yet.

Let me repeat that if I may. Things that haven’t happened yet. Why would you waste your time and energy worrying about something that hasn’t even happened? I know a lot of us play out a situation in our head and our first instinct is to be play it out with a bad ending. Why do we do that? I’ve done this one myself once or twice. Worry is a natural emotion/feeling. It’s up to you to control it and stop it in its tracks before it spirals out of control. That’s when the stress kicks in and our blood pressure rises. No need for all this now, is there?

4) Holding a grudge.

There’s an old saying “holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die”. Think about that for a sec. The poison you are drinking is the grudge. You are swallowing every drop and you are mad and pissed off to a point of no return. Expecting the other person to die? Honestly they could care less what you think. Hell they probably aren’t even thinking about you anyway. So why on earth are you wasting your time and energy grudging on someone? Go pick some flowers and bring them to a nursing home. Really. Spend time doing happy things. Not brewing and stewing over silly things.

5) Jealousy.

The girls in the magazine are beautiful. Sally has a beautiful body. Jimmy has a nice car. The Whites just bought a brand new house. With every turn, someone somewhere has something better or nicer than we do. Our first reaction is jealousy. There is no need to be jealous really. We all have something special, unique and beautiful inside of us. We also all have something that someone else wishes they had. Just be grateful for who you are and what you have. You are perfect and blessed exactly the way you are. Embrace it.

6) You’ve already lived the past.

Oh how we love to hang on to what happened 5, 10 or even 25 years ago. We still go on and on about it to whoever will listen. Why shouldn’t we? Who we are today is because of what happened to us yesterday. Well, yes, you’re right. Sort of. Who we are today is the result of the way we chose to handle the past. We didn’t all have silver spoons in our mouths. Some of us were dealt really shitty hands. It is what it is. Be done with it. No one wants to hear it, really. Just tell us something happy and joyful. That’s all we want to hear now.

7) I don’t love me.

Watch how you talk to yourself. You are listening. Make sure your self-talk is loving, kind, compassionate, gentle, caring and supportive. Talking bad about yourself to yourself is probably the worst thing you can do. Treat yourself in a totally loving and positive manner. When you do this, you will be able to see how awesome you are and how much more awesome you will become.

8) Woe is me.

Always the victim never the victor. Sad things keep happening to you and you can’t wait to tell the next person you see. The more you talk about it, the more depressed you get and the more terrible things keep happening to you. You think your life is bad? Go hang out in a city where they just had a devastating earthquake or tsunami. Stop whining. We’re getting sick of listening to it and there will come a point where no one will want to be around you. How lonely will that be?

9) Negative Nancy.

We are really truly sad for you and wish, just once, you could see something in a positive light. Not everything is bad. Honest. Try to find the good in things and when you do you will see that more good things will show up in your life. It’s a universal law. It has to be. You are sucking the life out of us and we don’t want to hang around you anymore.

This list covers many things that we all do almost on a daily basis. Next time you catch yourself doing any of these, stop it. Immediately. Turn it around and tell yourself that your soul is beautiful and deserves only loving, kind and caring thoughts. Once you get into this habit, in no time you will see that these behaviours will become a thing of the past and your soul will illuminate beauty.

Could you pls give advice An how to stop comparing your self to others in the aspect of looks and happiness ?

Comparison is a manifestation of the act of self-obsession. People assume being self-obsessed means you love yourself, it does not. It means you find any little thing about yourself and make it into a bigger deal than it really is. We’ve all done it. We’ve all made a big deal out of a small pimple that we know will eventually go, but we let it effect how we view ourselves. It’s crazy we give such things so much power. Eckhart Tolle helped me see such things are just an act of self-obsession. You point out every little thing, label it as a flaw and then give it this power that it really doesn’t have. We mistakenly think people are always looking at us, out of all people in the environment, we think all the attention is somehow directed at us. Which it never is because people are always thinking about themselves and how others are viewing them…

Comparison is built on nothing but illusion. We deceive ourselves into over idealising others and degrading ourselves for what reason? It really helps no one. No one benefits. The truth is no one is thinking about you, at least not in the way you think they are. Most people generally don’t care for anything that’s outside of themselves. Yes people care about their friends and family, but only because they see them as an extension of themselves… and anyone who focuses on other people in such a manner are really just trying to distract themselves from their own down falls.

We love our pain. It belongs to us, it’s our pain, it’s my pain. We hold on to it like a comfort blanket. We do anything to keep it alive within ourselves. It’s a collective problem within the human consciousness, we’re unconsciously taught that this is normal behaviour. It’s not. It’s not normal to complain about everything and anything. It’s not okay to constantly criticise ourselves and others. It’s not healthy to victimise ourselves. It’s not okay to abuse ourselves by lack of self-care and love. But we do it because it keeps the pain alive within us, we feed it this way. We need to become aware of what we are doing in every moment. It’s true that a lot of people are addicted to unhappiness. As in they psychologically produce chemicals that the body becomes addicted too. So with anything you can’t easily cut out of your life, you have to realise it’s an addiction. You’re addicted to the feeling or more so the chemicals that are produced when you compare yourselves to others.

You were trained by society to do this.
Now you need to train yourself to think more healthily. Stop indulging in such negative energy, we cannot afford the luxury of negative thoughts if you want to live a healthy and happy life. It all starts with the awareness and willingness to change the way you think.

People will judge you regardless of what you do. Don’t look to them for validation, simply accept all that you are.

Do not define your self worth by your numbers.

You are not trash because your A1C is higher than what your doctors want.

DO NOT compare your self-worth as a diabetic to another diabetic.

Everyone’s disease is different,

You’re still here,

and as long as you are, YOU’RE the one winning.

That’s all that matters.

So take a deep breathe, and remember,

it’s okay to cry

it’s okay to be frustrated.

We are in this together.

People keep asking me if I mind being a role model to teenage girls, and I don’t know if that’s actively a thing I am doing but if there were some things that I could hope to inspire then these are them

Always be learning - spend free time in books or museums, try to understand- your interests and tastes will widen and everything will become more enjoyable (ignorance is not the bliss you should want)

Learn to enjoy being on your own (if you don’t I think the above things are 10x more fun alone)

Try not to compare your physical self to other girls, enjoy your body, wear whatever you want! Especially strange clothes when it’s night time and you go to the nearest shop to get treats

Try to exercise every day, it’s addictive and chic, especially running outside to Rihanna

Try to be constantly moving forward, but also able to do nothing for a full day without feeling guilty

Try not to indulge in humour from mocking each other

Walk everywhere if you have the time, and don’t be on your phone while walking only listen to music (Brian eno is cool to walk to, I always see things I hadn’t before)

Try and let love that’s not working go

If you don’t like your job, get a new one, when you’re young you should be constantly changing

Try to make up quickly with close girlfriends, it’s fine to fall out, but they’re the most valuable

‘Hey, Mia. Can you remember me? Little baby Ruby who was born during your short stay in Strawberry Acres? I’m not exactly sure where you are right now, but I needed someone to speak to to keep my mind off everything. Where to start?

Well, I did some online research about you. I’m glad to hear that your bullies got what they deserved. Your parents seemed really happy together, I’m sorry that you lost your father so young. I delved a bit deeper and found out that your grandad was a singer who had minor success. Sorry to say this, but he wasn’t that great and he seemed a bit obnoxious. Your little sister, damn… she’s so pretty. Your brother seems pretty cool, too.

God, when you think of it, my problems seem so minor compared to yours because they’re self-inflicted. All I can pray is that Luke will come back… Wherever you are, can you please give me some peace of mind?’

I’m not a failure because I haven’t gotten to where I want to be yet; that’s not how it works.

love your curves and all of the little pieces of you that makes you unique :))

So I'd love to go back to school to do something animation/illustration related and I found a place that has a really cool looking illustration course that I'd like to do, but I just don't feel like I'm good enough? I've been practising a lot more recently but even if I get accepted I'm quite self-conscious about my art and I'm worried I'll constantly feel like I'm not good enough to be there?

Dude. You’ve just summed up how every artist feels at any stage in their career. It doesn’t matter how you compare to OTHER PEOPLE - it matters how you compare to your past self. Your skills will always improve with practice!! If you get accepted, it means that the program coordinators see potential in you and want to harness and develop those skills further :)

Bottle of Time 2

A new series about Peter and his best friend. (For all races, especially POC)

(Y/N) and Peter where best friends, they literally spent every waking moment with each other. They were extremely close and didn’t help that they bonded over each others mutations.

It was the 70s and high school couldn’t get any worse, it sucked cause of the shit you had to put up with. You new they were just jealous cause Peter was hot and seemed to only pay attention to you, but that didn’t excuse their horrible behavior. But one day like every other you were chilling in Peter’s basement (you were there literally everyday except Sunday’s, your mom wanted family time) when three guys came down the basement asking for your help in doing something highly illegal.

Peter was all for it but it did take some convincing to get you on board. And you were off.

Warnings: This whole story is a bit NSFW read at your own risk. Mentions of sex.

“And Peter, drive slow,” Charles said tossing the keys to your best friend. After you guys broke in to get Erik you used your power to pulsate energy through the air and knock out the guards in the hallway. Peter used his power to control the situation in the kitchen. And now here you were parting ways, “(Y/N),” Logan said motioning you to come closer. “Look, in the future I’ve known you for a long time and this magazine is the start of some very dangerous habits that completely ruin a relationship with someone you love,” He whispered. “Thats someone is everything you have, please don’t give up and hold on,” He pleaded.

You nod at the cryptic information. You step down the stairs heading towards the car you both just received. “What did he say?” Peter asked. “Just some stuff,” You replied. “Does it have to do with the book he handed you earlier?” He continued sliding into the car. “It wasn’t a book,” You replied.

The car ride was silent and full of tension, you and Peter always made it a point to communicate when you had issues. But this was something you couldn’t talk to your guy best friend about, hence why you had your girlfriends in the first place. Plus you didn’t want Peter to see the picture, you would never be able to live it down.

When you parked outside his house Peter had had enough, he had time to think and it was killing him. What was so insane about a stupid little book that you had to shut down. He knew you were going through something right now that you didn’t want him to know about. That also made his bones grind, the fact that you thought you couldn’t talk to him. So he did something completely out of impulse hoping to see what you were hiding, he stole the magazine from your bag and sped to the house.

Completely off guard is what happened, one minute you were about to exit the car the next your best friend violates your wishes. You ran as fast as you could, but you knew Peter had probably seen it, read it, probably had time to make copies by the time you would reach him.

There he was, face was red and in more shock than you. His mouth tried to form words but it couldn’t. Then his eyes lifted off the glossy paper to look up at you then back to the magazine. “Pete-” You tried before his finger shot up telling you not to say a word.

He swallowed hard then placed a hand on his hip. “So a Playboy model? Huh,” He said. “Always pegged you to be a business mogul, definitely not a model,” He said trying to bring a little light to the situation instead hitting your insecurity. “Why? I don’t seem like I could ever be a Playboy model?” You asked crossing your arms. Peter didn’t see the simple sign and kept talking not hearing his own words. “I mean yeah, you scare guys away not invite them in. I mean this picture, its sooo” “So what Peter? Scary?” You asked anger building inside you.

You could be brash sometimes when it came to boys, but they were so stupid sometimes. “No, its just its-its hot like really hot. Like I can’t even focus on my words cause of how good it looks,” He explained. “Tell me, do you have a twin sister I don’t know about? Cause this-” “Cause what Peter? Cause I so unattractive? Cause Im so hideous that that picture could never be me? Im sorry Im so scary, I’m sorry that nobody wants me. Not even my extra horny best friend believes that I could be even remotely attractive,” You screamed with a voice crack at the end. You felt a tear stream down your face and you wiped it away as fast as possible.

“Is that whats been going on?” He whispered. You closed your eyes trying to gain composure. “You think your not good enough?” He asked. “Pete-” “Babe, I didn’t mean it like that,” He said walking closer, you liked it when he called you that. “Then what did you mean?” You asked. “I meant that I could never see you in a place like that, not that your not attractive no. Your fucking gorgeous, you just have a strong personality that always seemed to have a path for success,” He explained. “But thats just it, I’m not strong Peter. Did you know I’m the last virgin in my friend group? Also I miss out on all the group activities because everyone brings there boyfriends and I end up being left out,” You explained.

Peter never thought you of all people could suffer from low self esteem. It literally baffled him, he wasn’t honest about his ‘friends’ talk he heard at school. What really happened is that he tried to ignore all the disgusting questions being thrown at him about what is was like to fuck you. Somehow those dim wits thought that you guys being friends equated you both having sex on the daily. That wasn’t the story, much to their demise. He finally had to nip it in the bud eventually when they started asking things like, what you sounded like when you screamed his name or how good you tasted in his mouth. They all thought you must’ve tasted like cinnamon but Peter thought it was more of a cherry flavor.

Now when he saw the picture, it confirmed everything he had ever thought about your body. That is was absolutely stunning, more then he could ever imagine. He almost came at that moment when he saw you. He was trying his best to play it off but that clearly turned to a completely new direction.

Another thing that picture did was make him think. Think about you, he already thought about you, a lot. He new he had emotions for you but he was not the type to deal with emotions. So he let them sit there, on the inside, growing. Until he could barely breath just by your existence. You occupied his every thought, he was even buying Playboy’s with girls that looked like you. He often stared at the pages wondering what you would look like in those skimpy outfits. Today he found out, what you didn’t know was that he had slowed time when he took the magazine. So it felt like seconds for you, but he had a good hour to process the information.

In that hour he had grown completely flustered and straight up horny. I mean, shit there you were, his best friend on the cover. You looked better than anything his imagination could conjure up, thats for sure. He almost licked the paper, what made it even worse was your expression. You were in mid moan fingers draped lazily around your mouth. Eyes staring back at him and back arched perfectly. It was driving him nuts, his mind started flooding with thoughts, and not the good kind.

He wondered back to the ‘friends’ talk, questions he often asked himself too. What did you taste like? He asked him self. Yeah, definitely cherries. He reassured. His mind dived deeper, thinking about how amazing it would be to hold you down as you came in his mouth. Shit-he could feel the pre-cum lacing his already throbbing dick.

He needed to cool down quick, sure he could slow time but that doesn’t mean it stops moving.

So here he was holding your head in his chest muffling your sobs, you were the most attractive person Peter knew. The fact that you had these insecurities showed that nobody was safe.

You sat down and explained to him about Amanda and how you had been comparing your self to her and the rest of the girls. How you wanted a guy to not only date you, but give you the sexual satisfaction you desperately needed. “Your the most amazing girl ever, don’t compare your self to others like that. And don’t change yourself to please people, your perfect the way you are and if they can’t see that fuck em’,” He finished.

Peter was so sweet sometimes. He would make a good boyfriend You thought. Would you ever date him? Of course you would. Peter was the best guy you knew, but your were just friends. That was all you could ever be, you were sure he didn’t have any feelings for you. That was until you felt his hot lips on yours. Yup, He leaned down interrupting your thoughts and planted one on you

Kihyun scenario requested by jessieb4893
Word count: 2907
Genre: Fluff

Yoo Kihyun had been your best friend since kindergarten. You two never went anywhere without the other as children, constantly sharing crayons and swapping secrets about the first graders. You rode the bus home together everyday and would play rock paper scissors to decide which house you ate dinner at. As you grew older together, you ditched the school bus for your feet and would get ice cream together from a 24 hour convenience store around the block from your shared street. You began eating breakfast at Kihyun’s and dinner was always at yours. It was a wonderful routine and by the time you were seventeen, your folks had become best friends as well. Your destiny had practically been laid out in front of you, with Kihyun planning to attend the same university as you and your parents most likely planning a marriage behind your back. You were supposed to fall in love. There was only one problem.
Kihyun liked someone else. And his type was just.. Definitely not you. The girl he was into at the moment was elegant. She was always wearing beautiful earrings and patent shoes with her school uniform. No matter how much you liked Kihyun there was no way. You were the tomboy type, with your hair always tied up in a messy high ponytail and with big square glasses that didn’t really fit your face. You were charming, but not in the way Kihyun wanted. You were a sister to him. And your preference for Adidas over heels was never going to change.
Overtime, you had accepted the fact that it was a one-sided love and you respected Kihyun’s space. Which, for the record, was pretty difficult since you shared the same friend group and your parents were so close. Your senior year was finally coming to a close and everyone was heading their separate ways. It was bittersweet as you gathered around your lunch table for the last week of school. Universities had been figured out amongst your group and everyone was still expecting you and Kihyun to attend the same school. Hyungwon, the tallest of your friends, had promised to visit on multiple occasions, since he enjoyed teasing you and Kihyun about your prospective relationship every chance he got. Unbeknownst to them, you had been doing a little extra credit work on the side, and you had several scholarship offers stacked up that were impossible to pass up. It was the perfect opportunity to separate yourself from Kihyun and get over him. The only thing that would be difficult was telling him. Although Kihyun had never been in love with you, there was definitely going to be an issue. He was your best friend after all. You figured Shownu, one of the nicest jocks you knew, would be the most upset though. You had grown closer after you accidently had told him about liking Kihyun during your second year. Love does funny things. You glanced around the lunch table where your friends were gathered, excluding Kihyun, and let out a soft sigh. You basically were the perfect group of friends, the kinds you would see in the movies. Wonho, the player. Minhyuk, the popular one. Jooheon, the class clown. Changkyun, the underclassman. Shownu, the jock. Hyungwon, the hot one. Of course, Kihyun, the childhood friend. And you, the geek. It was a perfect high school scenario, each of you adding balance to your group.
“Guys, I have some news.” You blurted out suddenly, hoping to finish this quickly just in case Kihyun showed up soon. Since he developed a crush on that other girl, he was always late. Soon enough, he probably wouldn’t show up at all.
“News? What kinda news? Is it bad?” Minhyuk questioned with a mouthful of bread, eyes wide as he leaned forward to listen to your explanation.
“You confessed to Kihyun?” Hyungwon threw in, a smug smirk on his lips.
“No way! You and Kihyun are dating?” Wonho continued on with the gag, laughing giddily as he watched your expression grow dark.
“Or are you finally going to admit I’m the one you actually like?” Changkyun inquired without missing a beat as you rolled your eyes.
“I’m not going to university with Kihyun anymore.” You spoke clearly, hoping to get the point across in as few words as possible.
What?” Six voices echoed, burning you down to your core.

It was two days before you left for university and you hadn’t heard a word from Kihyun since the last day of school. You, Jooheon, Minhyuk, and Changkyun were sprawled out on your floor as you went through things to pack. Kihyun didn’t even know and at this point, was there any good way to tell him? You slouched a little as you clutched a pillow to your chest, collapsing all over the three boys.
“What are you sulking about? Is it Kihyun?” Minhyuk asked in the midst of trying to wrap one of your snow globes from an old trip to New York.
“I know he has this new girlfriend or whatever, but we’re supposed to be best friends. I haven’t even had a chance to say a word. He ignores me and he’s never home when I stop by his house. I don’t know what to do.” You pouted, adjusting your glasses due to habit.
“If he’s going to ignore you, don’t tell him. He’ll feel the consequences later.” Jooheon said thoughtfully, his tone more serious than you had ever heard it before.
“Isn’t that a little harsh?” Changkyun laughed, trying to calm the tension in the air with his playfulness. Minhyuk changed the subject quickly and you finished up your final details of packing while he ran to the store to grab popsicles for the four of you.
Maybe Jooheon is right. I should just forget about him for right now. I’ll worry about it later. You thought, gnawing on your lips as you ran over the idea multiple times.

The boys ended up throwing you a small going away party, each of them bringing small gifts to entertain you while you were studying or having a hard time. They had all also pitched in to get you a new computer, as well as your parents, and Wonho’s mom had baked cake. It was perfect, despite the fact Kihyun had turned down the invitation to hang out because he had a date. You had thought that a party was a good chance to tell him quickly and painlessly, but instead he had blown you off again. You tried to not be bothered by it, especially with all the reassuring texts from Shownu and Hyungwon, who were obviously very worried about you. You ended up crying a majority of the four hour drive to your new dorm. It wasn’t until a week later when school started that you got a message from Kihyun.
Kihyun: Where are you? Classes started.

You scoffed a little as you read the message, shaking your head as you typed back.

I’m in Busan.

The reply was quick, causing your muscles to tense without thought.

Kihyun: Busan? Are you on a trip without me?~

You: I go to the national university here now.

Kihyun: Wait, you switched schools? Why didn’t you tell me?

Your lips tightened as you read the letters in the text, jaw clenching as you typed a simple response.

You didn’t ask.

Four years passed. You hadn’t visited home once due to the long trip and the massive amount of work you had. Changkyun could hardly visit because he was still in high school and having to juggle his grades. Hyungwon had stopped by once every year on his own, as well as Shownu and Jooheon. The full group, excluding Kihyun, had gotten together during the second year of college once for a little reunion. Other than massive amounts of emails, calls, and texts, this was the only contact you had with your treasured friends. You and Kihyun kept in touch and you ended up messaging him more than anyone else. Small things, like how you had gotten full marks on a test or the fact that he had a weird substitute. Not much had felt like it changed. Your hair had grown a little longer and changed by a few shades, you started dressing yourself in clothing other than sweatpants, and your glasses had been swapped for contacts. Small things from the beginning of college that built up to a much different result compared to your high school self. Since graduation had passed, you finally had enough time to return home for a weekend. You nervously had typed out a message to a group chat you formulated, littering the message with emoticons to express your excitement.

I’m coming home~ Are you excited? I bet you guys really missed a feminine presence. Oh, I forgot you had Minhyukkie^^ Are you guys free? <3 Your precious friend is coming home to you!~ You didn’t forget right? (:

You sent it quickly, not allowing yourself to hesitate and smiling as several messages popped up on the screen.

Kihyun: Come quick. I’ve grown two inches, you have to see. I’m taller than Changkyun now!

Changkyun: My favorite girl~ Kihyun is lying, please ignore him.

Jooheon: Are you coming now? When do you arrive?

Shownu: You have a ride, right?

You grinned widely as you responded, tugging your suitcase out on the curb to wait for your bus. Excitement was bubbling inside of you, anticipation rising with each passing second. The four hour ride couldn’t pass quick enough.

It was three in the afternoon when you arrived, your eyes widening as you recognized Shownu waiting for you at the bus stop. You waved sweetly, the corners of your lips tugging upwards in a crescent as you descended the steps toward him.
“You haven’t changed one bit. I think you’re the only one that realizes I’m a girl.” You chuckled softly as Shownu picked up your bag, a wide smile on his face while you headed toward your home together. By the time you arrived, six other boys were waiting on your doorstep, making a racket as they cracked jokes. Kihyun’s eyes met yours first, widening in slight as he gulped.
“Guess who?” You asked playfully, waving a little at the group.
“Y/N? IS THAT YOU?!” Minhyuk yelled, running over excitedly to fret over your appearance, curious hands poking at your cheeks,
“What the fuck happened? Give us our girl back.” Changkyun demanded teasingly, a childish grin pulling at his lips.
“This is the first time I’ve ever seen you wearing something girly. I like it, you look pretty. To think those chunky glasses were hiding such a cute face.” Hyungwon continued, nudging Kihyun with his elbow as he spoke to you.
“Oh, cut it out. I’m the same.” You waved it off, trying to not be too obvious about how weird it felt to see Kihyun again.

The night ended peacefully, everyone going their separate ways after dinner and a couple rounds of karaoke. It was refreshing to see everyone again and you were more than excited to be visiting, especially since you were probably going to end up staying. You and Kihyun were the last two left, walking home together in the cool air of the evening.
“Today was really good, wasn’t it?” You turned towards him as you spoke, linking your arms together like you did as children. He tensed up a bit at the sudden contact, but adjusted quickly with a small chuckle and a nod. Kihyun had gotten handsomer with time, his features had filled out and he had possibly grown a little. Overall, he was the same old Kihyun you loved, just a little more mature.
“But I have to wonder, what ever happened to your high school sweetheart?” You quirked an eyebrow, waiting for his answer.
“We sorta went our own ways. She wasn’t really my type.” Kihyun hummed.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, I like girls with glasses.” He murmured, looking at you through his eyelashes with a devilish glint.
“Shut up. You’re not funny.” You whined, giving his shoulder a playful shove.

Kihyun returned home that night with his heart beating quicker than ever, his hand shakily wrapping around the door knob of his room before he pushed inside. Tonight felt different for him, the air was heavier than usual and his head was still reeling from the skinship between the two of you. He collapsed on his bed, fisting his hair in his hands as recalled the day.
“When did she get so pretty?” He asked himself exasperated, tugging his phone from his pocket and dialing Shownu’s number quickly.

A few weeks had passed since you had come back and decided to stick around. You’d have to go back to Busan at the end of the month to pack your things, but other that, things were going smoothly. You had applied for a couple jobs in the area and discussed with your parents about getting an apartment soon so you could finally start living on your own. It felt like your life was just beginning. You finished up adjusting your application for another job hastily, having made plans with the friend group for the night. Your phone buzzed with a google maps notification from Shownu, giving you instructions on the directions to the meeting place. You followed it carefully, only to end up completely lost and standing in front of a children’s playground.
“Did he give me the wrong address?” You huffed softly, checking google maps again multiple times just in case there was a mistake. As you waited around for a little bit, you found yourself on a children’s swing set, kicking at woodchips beneath your feet. This place was looking more and more familiar the longer you stayed. You tensed up as a hand fell over your eyes, a scream about to bubble it’s way up from your stomach, when a soft whisper calmed your fears.
“It’s Kihyun.” They said quietly into your ear and you could hear the smile in his voice.
“What the hell, you scared me so bad. Move your hand.” You complained, tugging at his fingers only to be greeted by the sight of roses filling your field of vision.
“W…What’s this for? Aren’t we supposed to be meeting everyone else?” You asked shyly as Kihyun handed them to you, his face hovering directly in front of yours. He was so close to you that you could feel your cheeks staining pink.
“Change of plans. You’re mine for tonight, if that’s okay.” He chuckled, adjusting himself in the swing next to you.
“Do you remember this place?” Kihyun asked softly, holding his hand out to ask for your own. You allowed your palm to kiss his, fingers intertwining delicately.
“It feels familiar, but I don’t really remember it specifically.” You responded hesitantly, focusing on Kihyun as he spoke. Did I miss something? You thought, fingers tightening around his.
“It’s where we first met when we were little. I don’t remember what all happened, but I do remember seeing you. I always thought you were pretty.” He smiled, keeping his eyes on the ground as he explained.
“This is going to sound really sudden, but I think I fell in love with you that day. I only just registered it, though. I don’t know where my head has been all these years. But when I saw you again, after treating you so horribly, something clicked. Everything fell into place. Originally, this was supposed to be a huge romantic ordeal and I was supposed to kiss you before I uncovered your eyes. I mean, at least that’s what Shownu told me to do. But I think it’s better to tell you like this.” Kihyun continued, attempting to phrase each sentence well and not stumble over his words.
“Yoo Kihyun… Are you confessing to me right now?” You smiled, making eye contact with him that sent a buzz of electricity through your body.
“I mean… I guess, I am, yeah. I’m confessing to you.” He mumbled, covering his face with his hands to hide how red his face had become.
“Thank god, I didn’t want to have to do it first.” You laughed in return, shifting your feet so that the edges of your swings met and you were close enough to be able to kiss Kihyun softly on the cheek.
