The days of Sonic the Hedgehog being confined to his own, Sega-centric universe are long over — he’s met Mega Man in comics and done Olympic events with Mario in games — but the speedy blue guy has quite possibly never been to a world as expansive as the one he’s going to experience in August’s Sonic the Hedgehog #275 from Archie.
Not only is Mega Man involved in part eleven of the huge “Worlds Unite” event, but lots of other Capcom and Sega worlds will be part of the story, too. Street Fighter, Billy Hatcher, NiGHTS into Dreams and Monster Hunter are among the other franchises in the mix. (To answer what must be your most pressing question, yes, it does look like he’ll be meeting M. Bison.)
Check out Archie’s solicitation copy below, along with the ComicsAlliance exclusive reveal of covers by artists Patrick “Spaz” Spaziante, Edwin Haung, Lamar Wells, Tracy Yardley, and Rafa Knight!

I’ve wanted to start my own publishing company for a long time. I’ve been thinking about it off and on for at least five years. When I finally decided to pull the trigger at the end of 2014, I had no real idea just how much work was in front of me. And then, to make matters more challenging, I decided to do a Kickstarter as well. While also working here at ComicsAlliance and doing some freelance editing for other folks. It’s occurred to me that there are a lot of folks who want to do similar things, so I wanted to lay out how this all happened and what I learned. Learn from my mistakes, oh internet.

At the end of March, I launched a Kickstarter to fund the first project, a comics magazine called Fresh Romance, from my new publishing company, Rosy Press. It had never occurred to me to do this when I first got into comics, but it ended up being a pretty reasonable evolution of my career.

Best Cosplay Ever (This Week) - 11.28.11

Although cosplay has been present for decades within the comics, anime, and sci-fi/fantasy fandoms, social media has played an integral role in the thriving community of costuming that exists today and cosplay communities such as and the Superhero Costuming Forum. In honor of the many fans who’ve displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), a weekly collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into our own super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.

Check out this week’s round-up of the Best Cosplay Ever on ComicsAlliance, featuring War Machine, Catsy, Donna Troy, Daria & Jane (above), and more!

MAC Cosmetics’ Unveils Betty & Veronica Collection Based on the Archie Icons

MAC Cosmetics will be launching their Archie Comics collection just in time for Valentine’s Day, featuring makeup products inspired by Riverdale’s own Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge. Known for their critically acclaimed beauty products and collaborations with pop culture icons (including Hello Kitty, Barbie, and Wonder Woman), MAC Cosmetics’ Archie Comics products will feature exclusive new shades and special edition accessories. However, the most unique feature of this collection is that the products are evenly split (like Archie’s heart) to suit either the Girl-Next-Door (sweet candy shades of pink and peach) or the Sophisticated Fashionista (deep vixen tones of red and purple).

Check out the entire collection on ComicsAlliance!

SDCC was a blast! I spent most of the convention behind the KaBOOM! Booth drawing “Get-a-Sketch” covers!  Check out some of the covers I did!

Thanks to everyone that stopped by the booth to say “Hello" or buy my SDCC exclusive cover! I really appreciate the support!

Exciting news, everyone! As of this Monday (and every other Monday going forward), I’ll be doing comic strips (and reviews, and more) for ComicsAlliance! This is pretty exciting for me, but also for you - it means guaranteed new art at least every other week!

What you can expect: Commentary and cartoons about geek culture, internet, feminism (sorry, MRAs), comics, conventions, movies and more. This week, I tackle the idea of Cosplay creepers, and how to deal with ‘em. Hooray!

Click through to comment and tell them you like it! Reblog to spread the word! Thanks in advance, guys! Yay!

Take a Splash This Summer with Splish’s Super-Swimwear!

Given how many of comic’s most iconic heroes and villains regularly sport spandex leotards, it’s actually quite surprising that the selection of comics-inspired swimwear is rather limited. Perhaps in heroic response to this serious problem, Splish created a collection of swimwear with a splash of superheroic designs to save the day! Decked out in bold colors, stars, and lightning bolts, these super-swimsuits (which are also available as bikinis and mens’ swim briefs) are bound to catch the eye of fellow civilians at the pool or beach. Just remember to leave the capes at home!

Check out Splish’s collection of super-swimwear on ComicsAlliance!

On a personal note, I kind of need to own that Aquaman swimsuit NOW.

Wonder Con 2014 was such a blast! Thanks to my friends at Boom!Studios for having me at your booth.

The only regrets I have is I didn’t take many photos! Here are a couple of photos I managed to snap of covers I did.

Oh and I was totally on NBC news for a hot second talking about Adventure Time comics.

(edit: I should mention that all the covers I sketch are commissioned by fans of the comic and show. Thanks for letting me draw all over your books!)

Written by ROberto Aguirre-Sacasa & Illustrated by Francesco Francavilla
Lettered by Jack Morelli

The first issue of the brand new, never attempted before, Horror Archie series hits the stores today. I’m very proud of this book, specially considering that it all originates from that Zombie variant I did last year for Life with Archie, so I hope you guys pick it up and enjoy it as much as Roberto and I did putting it together :)

Above you can read the first 8 pages. Pick up the book to see how everything goes down in the next 14 pages of #1.

Here’s some early reviews:

“Aguirre-Sacasa and Francavilla are like peanut butter and chocolate together – a terrific combination that we should be kicking ourselves for not discovering sooner. ”

“If you are looking for a perfect horror title to get you in the Halloween mood then you cannot go wrong with this one, it is great for both core fans as well as for people who may not had read an Archie title in years. Well done Archie, well done.”
First COmics News

“9/10! it’s a genuine horror story and proof positive that a good Elseworlds-style mash-up doesn’t require a line-wide reboot, but is simply a matter of taking two top creators and letting them run wild.”

Comics Alliance

“Afterlife With Archie’ #1 not only surpasses expectations, it’s one of the few truly scary comics in recent memory.”

Victoria’s Secret Angels Get Superheroic in Annual Fashion Show Preview [link]

This year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show will feature some superheroic looks, as revealed by photos from a preview of the show that took place last Wednesday in New York City. The annual fashion event is renown for exhibiting extravagantly glamorous ensembles that are often decadent and fantastical, and this year’s show appears to be no exception. Victoria’s Secret current roster of Angels have transformed into superhero alter-egos with heavenly wings upgraded to metallic armor and colorful capes, strutting down the runway in vibrant bustiers, bold catsuits, and boob windows that would make Power Girl look demure.

Check out all of superheroic Angels (and a guest cameo from Kanye West) at ComicsAlliance!
