In honor of the many fans who’ve displayed excellence in the mastery of homemade disguise, craftsmanship, and sartorial superheroics, ComicsAlliance has created Best Cosplay Ever (This Week), a weekly collection of some of the most impeccable, creative, and clever costumes that we’ve discovered and assembled into our own super-showcase of pure fan-devoted talent.

Wonder Con 2014 was such a blast! Thanks to my friends at Boom!Studios for having me at your booth.

The only regrets I have is I didn’t take many photos! Here are a couple of photos I managed to snap of covers I did.

Oh and I was totally on NBC news for a hot second talking about Adventure Time comics.

(edit: I should mention that all the covers I sketch are commissioned by fans of the comic and show. Thanks for letting me draw all over your books!)

Mattel Releases Wearable Utility Belt And Batarang, Crimefighters No Longer Need Fear Embarrassing Pants Mishaps

By Chris Sims

One of the more unfortunate side effects of living in modern society is that we’re expected to wear pants whenever we’re in public. Seriously, they want you to do that every time you leave the house, even though that is clearly an unrealistic proposition for a society that has already perfected pajama technology. It’s an undeniable hassle, but this month, Mattel released something that helps make it a little more awesome: a recreation of the classic Batman ‘66 utility belt, complete with a folding Batarang.

It’s the latest entry in the tidal wave of merchandise that’s been hitting shelves in the truly wonderfulBatman TV series revival that we’ve been seeing over the past few months, and unless you’re willing to get creative with your “Surf’s Up” Batman action figure, it’s the first one you can actually wear. Check out a video of the belt in action below!

Take a Splash This Summer with Splish’s Super-Swimwear!

Given how many of comic’s most iconic heroes and villains regularly sport spandex leotards, it’s actually quite surprising that the selection of comics-inspired swimwear is rather limited. Perhaps in heroic response to this serious problem, Splish created a collection of swimwear with a splash of superheroic designs to save the day! Decked out in bold colors, stars, and lightning bolts, these super-swimsuits (which are also available as bikinis and mens’ swim briefs) are bound to catch the eye of fellow civilians at the pool or beach. Just remember to leave the capes at home!

Check out Splish’s collection of super-swimwear on ComicsAlliance!

On a personal note, I kind of need to own that Aquaman swimsuit NOW.

Exciting news, everyone! As of this Monday (and every other Monday going forward), I’ll be doing comic strips (and reviews, and more) for ComicsAlliance! This is pretty exciting for me, but also for you - it means guaranteed new art at least every other week!

What you can expect: Commentary and cartoons about geek culture, internet, feminism (sorry, MRAs), comics, conventions, movies and more. This week, I tackle the idea of Cosplay creepers, and how to deal with ‘em. Hooray!

Click through to comment and tell them you like it! Reblog to spread the word! Thanks in advance, guys! Yay!

Celebrate The Return Of ‘Community’ With Art By Chip Zdarsky

By Joe Hughes

Community is back. The brilliant and comics friendly NBC comedy (has any other television show, ever, featured an issue of Scud The Disposable Assassin?) made its season five debut Thursday night, with series creator Dan Harmon running the show once more. At ComicsAlliance, we’ve been fans of the show pretty much from the beginning, and even if it never again quite reaches the heights it once achieved — season four wasn’t exactly great, but our fingers are crossed for this year — we’ll always celebrate the good times.

With that in mind, we figured now was a good time to look back at a piece of Community art by noted Applebee’s aficionado Chip Zdarsky, who we understand also draws that Sex Criminals comic all the kids are talking about.

The staff of ComicsAlliance have announced their best of 2015 lists and Ben Sears is a runner up in the Outstanding Cartoonist category! Here is what they had to say:

“Ben Sears has a style that seems just perfectly at home on the page; every figure seems placed as if by magic, fully-formed and packed with character.” — Ziah Grace, ComicsAlliance

Check out the rest of their picks right here!

But that’s not all ComicsAlliance had to say about Ben! They are also super excited, as are we, about his upcoming release Night Air, which they aptly describe as “a science fiction story for kids”!
