comic characters of arrow

Artemis has always fascinated me a lot (maybe because I have a thing for girls who are wonderfully skilled archers, idk). Also, even thought she’s the emblem of chastity, I’m pretty sure she’s gay (????)

Anyway she, together with Athena, is like a big sister to Kore/Persephone (well, they’re actually step-sisters, so we’re good).

Burned: Arrow 5x15 Review (Fighting Fire with Fire)

So sorry my friends! I have slept. I am medicated. Thus I can write.

Oh Episode 15. You have become the season nemesis. The pebble in our proverbial audience shoe. The yucky chocolate filling in the otherwise yummy chocolate box.

Arrow has begun a tradition over the past three seasons. The 15th episode is filled with a whole lot of suck. I’m excluding 1x15 and 2x15 because I happened to really enjoy those episodes, but 5x15 can go sit in the corner with 3x15 and 4x15. Now, is it Felicity banging Palmer level?

Or Felicity breaking up with Oliver level?

Eh. Depends on your perspective. Those were very low lows. Maybe I’ll just leave 5x15 on par with those episodes.

The good news is, 3x15 and 4x15 were a bottoming out of sorts. We said to ourselves, “Arrow can’t get much crappier that this!” and, for the most part, we were right. There was an upswing as Arrow headed into the back half of the season.

Why is it like this? I don’t know. Arrow hits this wall around the 11-15 range almost every single season. There’s a lull and we run into a series of episodes we could seriously do without.

I don’t think Arrow intends to write a crappy episode. I think they try very hard to make excellent TV every week. The problem is the 23 episode season, and maybe this is why I’m a big “smeh.” I fully expect a third crap, a third good, and a third excellent every season. Typically, that’s what I get. So, I toss this episode into my one third crap pile, grab another bag of chips and write the review.

Cause we gots to talk about why "Fighting Fire with Fire” was a whole lotta suck. We shall address the suck with a copious amounts of gifs, because I’m in. I’m not changing the channel. I’m too invested. You jump I jump Arrow

So, when eps like these come along, I just have to laugh, vent, and have some fun with it. But never fear! I do see rainbows on the horizon. There’s yummy chocolate in this box somewhere.

Let’s dig in…

So this is complete bullshit. Lemme explain. For those who don’t know (which I’m pretty sure EVERYONE knows), Dinah Laurel Lance was killed off the show Arrow. For basically no reason at all. They mistreated her character from the start, and then they killed her off for no reason. Now, in seasons 1-4 of the show, you occasionally saw Dinah Laurel’s mother. Her name, was STILL Dinah Drake. Buuuut, nooooowwww, they’re making some random-ass character have a metahuman super-sonic scream, have her know basic fighting skills, slapping the name Dinah Drake on her, and she’s gonna become the ‘new’ Black Canary (or just A Canary) to carry on Dinah Laurel’s legacy. *SIGH* seriously??? What Arrow did I guess wasn’t horrible enough, so now they have to make it even worse??? UGH!! If they were ever gonna have a Black Canary named Dinah Drake, it needed to be like the comic and have it Dinah Laurel’s MOTHER. Not just some random-ass character you’re using to please the audience (which is definitely not going to work btw). You should have shown her CORRECTLY, and done it how it’s supposed to be. DINAH LAUREL, is the one that carries on HER [Dinah Drake’s] legacy. Not the other way around, especially when they’re not even related at all, and it makes no sense.

Arrow had their chance from the start. They, of course, fucked it up from the start. This 'new’ Black Canary, is NOT comic!Dinah in any way. She’s not either comic!dinah. I fucking love my Black Canaries. They’re the whole reason I got into comics even more. They mean a lot, and their characters stand for something. Arrow doesn’t see it that way; they see it as, they can do what ever the fuck they want and they’re women (more specifically, Dinah Drake, the CORRECT Dinah Drake, and Dinah Laurel) stand for absolutely nothing. Dinah Laurel definitely deserved better. So did her mom on the show. (I know DD wasn’t alive when DLL was an adult, but they still should have treated her better).

And since I was (understandably) demanding in my last post, I do actually have a question. What character from the comics do you still want to bring on Arrow that you haven't yet? Snarky Batman answer is also not allowed.

The Question remains my white whale as far as Arrow is concerned.

The Difference Between DC & Marvel

Marvel: “The time just isn’t right for a Black Widow movie despite how insanely popular she is”

DC: “You guys want Wonder Woman? Here she is! And We’re giving her a solo movie! We already have a screenwriter ready. And We’re going to have a Supergirl series”

Marvel: “We’re going to have a gay wedding! Between two minor characters whom we’ll hear almost nothing from afterwards while also making fun of gay characters in our movies”

DC: “Here’s the first ever solo title featuring a gay hero! Not enough? How about we make one of Our classic Golden age heroes gay too? And we’ll add the first ever Trans character to play a main part in a major comic and we’ll have a romance between two female characters on Arrow”

Marvel: “We’ve got a lot of plans for Phase 2 but we’re not saying what They are.We might maybe even think about making a movie that doesn’t have a straight, white male as the lead”

DC: “We’re making a Batman/Superman film. You know the film that every comic book fan in history has wanted to see. And Wonder Woman will be there too along with Lex Luthor and Metallo. The holy trinity together at last. It’s gonna be amazing”

Marvel: “People just come to Our movies to see big explosions and have characters say funny things and villains die just like every other blockbuster in existence”

DC: “We just made probably the first ever superhero movie where the hero seems at all upset about taking the villains’ life”

Marvel: “We think an average of one well-written female hero per movie is perfectly fine”

DC: “We had five well-written female characters in Our first movie. Our next will have three”

Marvel: “After thinking long and hard, we’ve decided to add a Muslim character to Our line-up”

DC: “Here’s a Muslim Dr Fate. And Green Lantern. And Hawkgirl is Latina. And Huntress is Biracial. And Wally West is black now”

Marvel: “Maybe we’ll have a non-white hero/villain in one of Our movies at some possible point in the future. Though Black Panther is too complicated for a movie”

DC: “Here’s a two-thousand year-old Egyptian God played by The Rock. And a racebent Aquaman and Mercy Graves. And Cyborg, who is black and disabled. Not enough? How about a non-white Deathstroke, Captain Boomerang and Captain Cold in our shows?”

Marvel: “We see no problem with having few female led titles or even none at all as has happened before”

DC: “We haven’t been without a female led title since 1945”

Marvel: “We’ve decided to make Sam Wilson Captain America for a while”

DC: “You want a Black Superman? Here You go! And he’s his own independent character. You want a Black Wonder Woman too? You got it. In fact we’ve got a whole company dedicated to non-white characters”

Marvel: “Wait-”

DC: “We’re also bringing Cassandra Cain back.”

Marvel: “I didn’t-”

DC: “And You know what? We don’t need to bombard You with campaigns. You guys are smart enough to know when something is good”

DC: “Peace”

I got a new cut and coloring all because of his fictional character that I’m in love with. I can’t thank Katie for her amazing work as the BlackCanary on Arrow. She’s inspired me so much. Like I’m so thankful she was chosen for this role. I identify and relate to her and her persona. Haven’t had the same struggles but I appreciate her character and her story.
