comedy's greatest era

1949 - Buster Keaton’s comeback year

- Keaton plays a supporting role to Judy Garland in MGM’s musical, In the Good Old Summertime.  He writes and directs a sequence of the film.  His role in the film puts him back in the public eye, as does James Agee’s famous Life article about Hollywood silent comedy, “Comedy’s Greatest Era.”  In December, Keaton starts a weekly half-hour television show in Los Angeles, The Buster Keaton Show.  The success of the show leads to other commercial film and television ventures.
