It’s no secret I was always a fan of Stefan and Elena ending up together. In another universe, that would’ve been the ending, but we didn’t have time to tell that story in the last season because we didn’t have Elena. We couldn’t get them back together.”

“We were torn between Damon and Stefan,” Williamson says, before confessing, “I’m a Stelena [fan]. I’ve gone on record as a Stelena [fan]. It’s Stefan and Elena for me. That’s who, in another universe, that’s how I would have ended the show.”

“If we’d had her [Nina] back for all of the eighth season, we could have worked our way back there [to Stefan and Elena]. And I would have loved to explore that. But we didn’t.”

“Well, I always thought it would be Stefan and Elena. They were sort of the anchor of the show, but because we lost Elena in Season 6, we couldn’t go back. You know Nina could only come back for one episode – maybe if she had came back for the whole season, we could even have warped back towards that, but you can’t just do it in 42 minutes.”

—  Kevin “our Stelena King” Williamson
Writing, Neil Gaiman, and Kon Satoshi

I almost gave up writing altogether after reading Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.

I didn’t read it as it was coming out in comics, but later, when it was published in collected volumes.

It was too perfect. Too complete. It seemed like it had sprung fully-formed from Gaiman’s head, and he had to spend years waiting for artists to catch up.

It was overwhelming. Unattainable.

I wasn’t reading the book’s post-scripts, though, because I wanted to avoid potential spoilers. I wanted to experience the material, not the author dissecting it.

I did read them on a second pass. There’s a story on Dream Country, the third volume, about a writer keeping a muse captive so she can give him ideas. It’s a piece with characters that tie into Morpheus’ past and who will come up again, woven into the larger narrative. The book also contains a post-script on how the story came about, where Gaiman states it was at first about a succubus, before moving on to talk about his process for working with the artist.

My eyes kept moving forward, brain storing words from the original script, but my consciousness had taken a step back.

Wait, back up, what was that character again?
Originally a succubus, replies brain, let me keep going here.

Yes, stupid me. I had assumed Sandman had been gestating inside Gaiman from the start, waiting for an opportunity for the entire story to burst out. He didn’t transcribe a long epic he had already come up with. He wasn’t born with the tale. He worked at it for years, sometimes throwing away material and replacing it with things that fit better. Like a normal human being.

I keep making the same mistake. I wrote about a similar mental bug when talking about Kon Satoshi and Dream Fossil.

We only see the finished product. We don’t see the author sitting down at the typewriter and bleeding.

It’s all work. Some people have more potential and have it easier, others have to work harder at it, but in the end it’s only work. If you want a chance to get better at it, you should treat it as such.

I really want CW to do a BatFam live-action TV series. Like, I have this five-season structure all worked out in my head:

  • Start with Batman working with Dick Grayson. You probably want to have their partnership be a few years old because Dick’s canonically the longest running and closest to Batman of the Robins, but you can throw in cute flashback episodes showing his recruitment
  • Have Catwoman be a recurring antagonist/neutral figure throughout the series, with copious amounts of flirting.
  • Establish the character of Barbara Gordon early season 1, and give all these little hints at what she’ll become, then have her take up Batgirl season 2- sort of like what the Flash did with Cisco.
  • Bring in Bat Woman around Season 2-ish, give her a nice LGBT plotline, and have some fun with her and Batman’s mutual secret identities.
  • Have a plotline about Dick’s desire to go his own way that culminates in him taking up the identity of Nightwing. Maybe give him a spin-off if he’s popular enough?
  • Have Bruce recruit Jason Todd as the new Robin early Season 3 because he misses Dick, but make it clear Jason is much more angry/impulsive.
  • The villain of Season 3 is the Joker. Mid-season, Barbara is paralyzed from the waist down. Give her an good, respectful plot arc recovering physically and mentally that culminates in taking up the mantle of Oracle in the finale and being vital in defeating the Joker.
  • Have the Joker brutally murder Jason  a few episodes before the finale. This culminates in a harrowing conclusion where Batman must decide whether to kill the Joker or imprison him.
  • Season 3 or 4, depending on how episode spacing works out, introduce an mysterious assassin figure. At first she seems like an antagonist, but later she saves the life of a main character and introduces herself as Cassandra Cain. She’s adopted into the Bat Family and becomes the new Batgirl with Oracle’s blessing.
  • Season 4, bring in Tim Drake, and have a long plot arc where Batman doesn’t want to put anyone else at risk, until Tim manages to become Robin mid-season.
  • Give Tim have a love interest named Stephanie who’s secretive about her own family, later revealing her father’s the Cluemaster. She takes over for either Robin or Batgirl for an episode before creating her own identity as Spoiler.
  • The theme of Season 4? Parents. Parallel the shitty parenting of Steph and Cass, and have them bond over it. Put in some episodes of Batwoman and her strained relationship with her own father. Use the opportunity to emphasize the parental role Bruce has found himself in, and that after Season 3 he doesn’t want to fail his kids again.
  • Season 5′s main villains are the League of Assassins. Establish Talia Al’Ghul as an old flame of Bruce’s, and at the end of her first episode have a cliffhanger with her ten-year-old son Damian.
  • Introduce the recurring villain Red Hood, and later reveal he’s Jason Todd, resurrected by Ra’s Al Ghul via the Lazarus Pit.
  • Have Damian join the Bat Family mid season. Have Batman disappear/be killed for a bit, and Nightwing come back and take over as Batman for a few eps, with Damian taking over as Robin. Have his run as Batman contested by Jason, who views his morals as constraining and antiquated.
  • Eventually bring Bruce back, have him succeed at bringing Jason into the fold, have Catwoman finally come down on his side, and give it all an epic finale with the entire Bat Family.

Bonus points for race-blind casting (especially for all those black-haired Robins!) and copious amounts of crossovers between BatFam members and the other superhero shows.

K’s Sterek Starter Kit

We heard there are new people still coming! Poor souls, that’s gonna be a painful journey, but trust me, I would not change it for anything else!

This list is my personal STEREK STARTER KIT/STEREK MUST READ LIST, so I hope you will enjoy it! (most of the links are to our recs, where you can find more details and notes ;))

The first thing I always recommend new people in fandom is Important Things by suzvoy (which was my first Sterek fic and I love it to bits and pieces) and it works like a charm every time!

Then you just have to read (Sacred) In the Ordinary by idyll because of reasons.

Best Harry Potter AU every fandom needs? I’m sure you will just love Untamed by rosepetals42.

The happy making ones you can read over and over again:

This is not even a fic, but you have to see it - Needs More Sparkly Pens by mm_coconut

Some more serious fics, which I love forever:

The one that will make you love Allison, if you don’t already - You Know What I Mean by stilinskisparkles

Gotham Casts Game of Thrones Alum Alexander Siddig as Ra's al Ghul

Gotham appeared to lose its biggest villain in the winter finale, when the Riddler vs Penguin battle came to a dramatic close. But a villain of epic proportions is coming to town, as one of Batman’s most cunning foes, Ra’s al Ghul, joins the cast in the final eight episode run of the season that airs this spring. Alexander Siddig, a well-liked TV actor from Game of Thrones, Da Vinci’s Demons, Atlantis, 24, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and more will step into the role of the nigh-immortal villain who in the comics seeks to make Bruce Wayne his heir as he controls the world from the shadows.

The role is a recurring one that will start later this season, and Ra’s will be seen as “pulling the strings” of everything going on in Gotham City, including the actions of the Court of Owls and other villains. To say it’s a big undertaking is an understatement. Interestingly, Siddig will be the first man of Arabian origins to play this Arabian character.

Typically in the comics, Ra’s al Ghul comes into Bruce Wayne’s life after he’s become Batman, but that was changed in Batman Begins when he became one of Bruce’s primary instructors, helping him to become the vigilante. We may see even more of a mentorship role between Ra’s and the young Bruce Wayne on Gotham played by David Mazouz. Gotham is using the “League of Shadows” instead of “League of Assassins” in the series - the former has been used exclusively in the big screen “Dark Knight Trilogy,” while the latter was the comic book original name of his organization, and was brought to live action on the CW.

The character has appeared in several media besides comics, most recently as a character on Arrow.

The official character description from Gotham’s producers follows:

As Bruce (David Mazouz) pulls the veil off the COURT OF OWLS, he finds the man pulling the strings is the enigmatic and powerful RA’S AL GHUL. With his past shrouded in mystery, Ra’s Al Ghul uses cunning and deception to lay waste to his foes. As the leader of an international criminal organization known as the LEAGUE OF SHADOWS, Ra’s Al Ghul will prove himself to be Bruce’s most dangerous adversary yet.

So since the release of the Justice League trailer, there has been a massive debate over who’s cover of Come Together was used. Most are saying Godsmack (at first I thought so too), others are saying Aerosmith.

Turns out we’re ALL wrong. It’s by Gary Clark Jr produced by Junkie XL.

Hopefully they’ll release a full track soon.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Fic: Marked

4.5k words, G rated

When Scorpius arrived in that hellish other world he discovered he had the Dark Mark branded on his arm. He hoped that when he left it would go away, but here he is, back in his own world, hiding the scar from his best friend and his dad.

Am I allowed to blame one of the actors for a fic? This is one hundred percent James Le Lacheur’s fault. I wrote this after seeing her first show as Scorpius back in October. For those who don’t know, her Scorpius rubs his left arm during the conversation about the Voldy timeline in McGonagall’s office, and I’ve now seen that happen twice, so it isn’t a coincidence. It made me wonder whether the Scorpion King is marked, and whether that would affect Scorpius.

This is also @bounding-heart‘s fault for talking about Scorpius and Dark Marks recently. It’s time to finally drag this thing from the angsty depths of my iPad and unleash it on the world.

Thanks to @abradystrix for betaing!

  • Cat: (sees Mon-El) So, this is the boy... Milo, is it?
  • Mon-El: Uh, Mike, actually, and I'm a man, not a boy. Daxamite, if you want to cut hairs about it.
  • Kara: (clears thrust, whispers) It's split hairs.
  • Cat: I know what I said, Milo. Honestly, Kiera. I practically hand you James Olsen on a silver platter. Artistic, sensitive, bursting from his oxford shirts. And you dump him for this pasty teen show reject in bad pants?
  • Mon-El: Hey!
  • Cat: (Sighs) It looks like I'll have to take matters into my own hands. Boy... be gone. Girl... come.
  • (And Kara does)

Philophobia - The fear of falling in love

Your mom had always been the most hopeless of romantics.

Growing up, she had always seemed to have some sort of cheesy romance movie playing on the small, glass screen of the family television. Anytime you’d be playing with your toys, reading a book, doing your homework, or even helping your family make dinner for that night- There was always one of the world’s greatest love stories to accompany your memory.

You remember the time your dad made you laugh so hard that water came out your nose with the time that Richard Gere professed his love to Julia Roberts on her fire escape.

You remember the time that you accidently spilled your paint on the living room carpet with the time that Rose promised to never let go of Jack.

You remember the time your cat had knocked over your mom’s favorite vase with the time that everyone forgot it was Molly Ringwald’s sixteenth birthday.

She had these movies always on loop, to have a constant reminder that love exists and that love conquers all. She would put you to bed every night, always coming up with some sort of butterfly inducing tale of an epic love story that seemed so magical your wide eyes would sparkle in a way they never had until she uttered those words. On rainy days when your dad was at work, your mom would blast Celine Dion from the cheap speakers, she found on one of her garage sale hunts, and twirl you around the house singing the lyrics as loud as she could. She would always make a point of telling you and your dad just how much you all meant to her and how much she loved you. Every Tuesday she would take you to the public library after school, searching for another romance novel to tie her over for the week.

She loved to love.

Suddenly, everything you’ve come to know came crashing down in a matter of minutes.
