your head up from rummaging in your bag and smiled at Ethan, your cooking class
instructor, “My husband might be back in town, but I’ll see,”
nodded his head steadily. After a while
of looking at each other, you diverted your gaze down towards the wooden
table. You saw his tapping fingers
slowly make their way towards your hand that was rested on the table.
you moved your hand, and placed your engagement and wedding ring back on your
left hand. You did’t like cooking with your rings on in fear that they could fall down the drain if you were washing your hands, “Uh, Thanks for the lesson, I’ll see you later.”
heard an audible sigh escape his lips, “See you next week, Mrs. Mendes.”
As fast as
you could, you scurried out the door and saw your friend, Jessie, waiting for
you outside. She saw your flustered
expression and smirked, “Looks like the teacher has a crush on the student.”
Shawn Barber, an Olympic pole vaulter from Canada, came out as gay in a cheerful Facebook post earlier this week. He wrote:
“Gay and proud! Thank you to my parents for being such a great support. I continue to grow as a person and have a great support group. My parents are my greatest support and have helped me through a lot recently. To my friends, you are always my friends and i love you too!”
The Canadian Olympic Committee confirmed to Outsports that Barber did in fact write the post.
Barber instantly becomes one of the highest-profile and most successful current openly gay athletes anywhere in the world. He won the world championship in the pole vault in 2015. At the Rio Summer Olympics last year he finished 10th.

Shawn has always been playful. First night back after two months of touring? A little more so. Tonight, every chance he gets he manages to discreetly smack my bum or slide his fingertips up the back of my thighs. One would think that after having been separated from his family for months he would like to spend quality time with them, but halfway through the movie that’s playing in the Mendes living room after dinner he fakes sleepiness and excuses us both. I reluctantly follow him upstairs, wanting to finish the movie.
The second Shawn’s bedroom door closes behind us his arms encircle my waist from behind, and he kisses my neck. I spin around in surprise, seeing a grin plastered on his face.
“Okay what’s going on? You’ve been handsy all day!”
“Baby, I’ve missed you. I’ve been gone for ages, and I need you so bad.” He reaches out for me with his hands, pulling me close and kissing me. I push against his shoulders and take a step back.
“Your sister and your parents are downstairs, they could hear us. No way. We are not having sex tonight,” I say in the most serious voice I can muster while watching him bite his lip.
A/N: Celebrating Shawn’s birthday. Feedback is always lovely.

Shawn and I had been living together for a little over four months now. Since Shawn agreed to letting me crash for a week while looking for something new after being kicked out of my dorm, things we didn’t count on happened between us and suddenly, we were practically roommates and enjoyed each other’s company for hours a day.
Note: Not requested, but this came about because I went to the pool today and then went straight to work and I felt that sleepy feeling you get after spending time in the sun. Its a special and specific kind of sleepy. I don’t know how else to describe it, but it’s nice. It made me want to take a nap with Shawn.
The cool air of your hotel room hits you as soon as you
swing open the door. You had turned the air conditioner on high before you left
because you knew it would be hot outside, but a shiver runs down your spine as the
blast of cool air hits you without warning. You head straight for your bathroom to
take a shower, dropping your wet towel on the bathroom floor before removing
your black bikini and getting under the warm stream of water.
When you get out of the shower, you feel exhaustion hit you.
You had just spent the last four hours lounging by the pool, and the sun takes
a lot out of you. It’s one in the afternoon, a perfect time for a nap. There is
something about afternoon naps after mornings spent in the sun. They’re
magical, and they have a certain feel to them.
Exiting the bathroom, you hear the television on in the
hotel room, and a smile spreads across your face knowing that your boyfriend
has returned. He was gone doing press all morning. You offered to go with him,
but he insisted you stay back and enjoy the resort. You were in Florida after
Shawn is seated at the edge of the bed, watching the hockey
game on the tv. When he sees you, he smiles and says “Hey baby,”
“Hey hun, how was work?” You question as you crawl onto the bed behind
him, which immediately prompts him to move so he’s lying next to you.
“Good, nothing special.” You cuddle
closer into his side as his arm automatically wraps around you, and he asks,
“You tired?” To which you only sleepily nod in response. “Didn’t you just sit
at the pool all morning?” He questions, purposely giving you a hard time, but
you know he’s joking and doesn’t mean it in a mean way.
“Yeah, but the sun makes me
sleeeeepy.” You drag out the last word before hiding your face in his t-shirt.
The afternoon sun is shining into the hotel room, and the exhaustion you feel
is a good kind of exhaustion. Shawn has a show in a couple of hours, but
neither of you have anything planned until then. “Take a nap with me?” You ask
“You’re literally the cutest
person ever.” He tells you smiling down at you.
Your eyes flutter closed,
and you’re too tired to respond to his statement. You feel his lips press
lightly against your forehead before he moves slightly to get more comfortable.
And in his arms you fall asleep listening to the sound of his steady breathing.
“This is amazing, Shawn” I muttered, my jaw dropping amazed.
“Dude, it’s dope” Brian agreed, nodding excited.
Shawn had invited us all around to see his new flat and though the rooms were impressive, Shawn’s view over Toronto beat every view I’d ever seen in my entire life. Even the sunset Brian and I once watched in Sri Lanka didn’t do this one justice.
“Your mother outdid herself finding this” I said, looking out at the CN Tower lighting colourfully up in the dark.
