Vincent Van Gogh
The vivid colours Van Gogh uses in much of the work he is most famous for are not generally the sorts of colours that immediately appeal to me, such as the bright yellows, however when coupled in his paintings with aquamarine, terracotta, azure and peach I think they work beautifully. His paintings are an example of how I could look to move out of my comfort zone into bright colours by coupling them with more subtle colours to balance them out, including white and highly tinted colours and dark shades of blue, green and red.
