college is not so fun sometimes

In the spirit of Space Australia posts...

I like the idea of humans not being the only species with a need to unecessarily bond and form ‘packs’ and whatnot, or the only species to enjoy putting themselves in danger for the adrenaline rush, or the only species to recreationally poison themselves, or even the only species to have parties.

You know what I love, though?

Crowd psychology and the concept of group flow.

I love the idea that humans are the species that is in love with group flow. Sure, any alien can listen to music and enjoy it, maybe even go to concerts in large groups. But humans are the only non-telepathic species where going in a large group enhances the experience simply because you know that dozens or hundreds or even thousands of other people are all getting in the zone with you at the same time for the same reason. Any alien can go to a concert, but they marvel at the sight of hundreds of humans singing along to their favorite artist not because it makes the song objectively better, but because it enhances the experience.

I love the idea of aliens trying to figure out mob psychology, looking at sports fandoms and the riots that happen if a team fails to win a game, and asking themselves and other humans how it gets to that point. Because they can put the same human in front of the same game and get two entirely different results based on whether the human is alone or not. A lone human may break a bottle or curse, but they will likely not do more than that, unless they go online to rant. A human in a group that feels the same way can do much more damage.

I love the idea of aliens trying to figure out the aspect of performative grief for dead celebrities, not understanding that it is not only practice for when a death comes closer to home, but that it is a form of bonding, a call and an echo of “I feel this way too. This person mattered to me too,” across thousands or millions of people’s screens and faces and pens.

I love the idea of aliens taking a look at frat parties and nightclubs and karaoke and being so confused, because they can understand that intoxication might be fun, sometimes, or that singing or dancing with strangers can be fun, but the sheer chaos of an out-of-control college party is terrifying to them. There is nothing here that people will enjoy come the morning, but somehow that doesn’t matter, because in that moment, with those people, the humans are connecting as they sing their drunken songs or eat their terrible food or dance the night away. There is a sense of belonging even in this awful mess, for those who know how to find it.

I love the idea of aliens looking at conventions and wondering how it is that there is such a difference in a person wearing a costume in the privacy of their home and wearing it to a large con, how the endorphin levels soar even when the human is not receiving compliments, just because the convention is an echo chamber of “I love this show, this character, this franchise, this life.”

I love the idea of aliens coming to earth and understanding the meaning of bonds and enjoying music and knowing fiction and surviving our weather and planets and everything and still not being able to understand how a room full of strangers with no telepathy can feel so connected and in-tune simply by sharing an experience. The feelings aren’t always positive ones, but they are there, and there is a comfort in sharing them with endless people you’ve never met.

Anyway, that’s my contribution for Space Australia.

Some people say that you know you love someone if you start thinking about a future with them. But I think that if you really love someone you don’t think about the future at all. I think that how much you like someone is directly related to how little you think about any kinds of consequences. Like if I really like you and I’m having fun with you at a bar, I won’t even think about how hungover I’m going to be at work the next day or what my friends are going to say about you. Some people take it so far that they get tattoos of their girlfriends, or take the fall for their boyfriends drugs, or follow their significant other to college. And some people will stay up 4 hours past their bedtime talking to you the night before their LSAT. The point is that when we care about someone enough, we sometimes don’t think. We don’t think about tomorrow, or next week, and we definitely don’t think about 3 years from now. And maybe it’s better that way because maybe in the future we’re married or maybe I’m crying over you on the kitchen floor. The beauty is that in that moment, we don’t know and it doesn’t matter.

I’ve seen a lot of positivity posts for new artists on tumblr. And, that’s important, but I don’t see a lot for new writers.

So, here’s to the new writers and authors.

Here’s to that kid writing fanfiction in their room, hoping to God nobody finds their work because it’s for their eyes only. You go. Write what makes you happy. You’ll be glad you did, even if you’re cringing at it a decade from now, you’ll be happy you did it.

Here’s to the girl writing online about her favorite boy band or artist. You go, girl. Work those writing skills. You’re learning with every imaginary interaction.

Here’s to the person in their 50s deciding they want to start on some realistic fiction. Go and do it. It’s never too late to start. I’ll bet you’ve got some awesome ideas.

Here’s to the person that randomly got inspiration one day and is just now trying their hand at poetry. You’re improving with every poem. Whether you just want to write a haiku, or you’re aiming to write an epic poem to rival the odyssey, you can do it. Your imagination is big enough, I promise.

Here’s to the college student writing that short story feverishly when they should be writing a paper. Work your creative muscles. You’ve got them, no matter how much you try to convince yourself you don’t.

Take those burning ideas in your head and write them out. You will make some mistakes. We all make a lot of mistakes. We never stop making mistakes.

Remember: you are creative enough, your first draft doesn’t have to be perfect, grammar is a bitch, so don’t beat yourself up if you mess it up sometimes, and make sure to have as much fun as you can.

Sharpie Promises

Note: I don’t know if I’ll publish this or not, but basically, I’m a ho for TMNT and soulmate AUs and I’ve never seen a TMNT Soulmate AU, so here you go. It’s the 2k14/2k16 turtles btw. Idk. I might do more of these if you guys like it.

Raphael wasn’t human. He had struggled with this, but had eventually come to terms with the fact. He didn’t have a soulmate and he wouldn’t ever find love. Not in a world full of humans. He tried to be all right with it. Keyword: tried.

It wasn’t until he was working out one day that he felt something cold and wet travelling across his left forearm. Just as quickly as it had started, it stopped. He removed his three-fingered hands from the weight he had been lifting and sat up to examine it.

Hi.

Messy black letters written in Sharpie. His green eyes narrowed. What was this? He had never felt or seen anything like this. But there it was, plain as day on his arm. He stared at it, afraid that the words would disappear, but no. They stayed right where they were. And then soon after, more appeared from nowhere, as though a ghost was writing on his arm with an invisible marker.

So, it’s like three in the morning here and I don’t know if I’m doing this right, but um, hi.

A long pause. Raph stared in amazement, too shocked to say anything.

You’re probably asleep, aren’t you? Dammit. Well, um…bye, I guess.

He had never run so fast in his life.

“Woah, woah, watch it!” Donnie raised his arms as Raph pushed his chair away from his station and grabbed a Sharpie, pulling off the cap between his teeth and scrawling in the empty space on his arm.

Wait.

***

Your heart raced as a response finally appeared.

Wait.

Big, messy letters that you could tell had been written in a rush.

I’m here. Who are you? What’s happening?

You stared at the letters, the handwriting. Your stomach dropped, the nerves kicking in. This was it. This was your soulmate. You had no idea how this worked. No one did, but it worked, and that was all that mattered. A magical pen-pal from far away, probably. Why anyone would be up at this ungodly hour besides you was beyond you. But now you had to reply. You turned over your arm to write back.

I’m (Y/N). Your soulmate, I think. I don’t know…this is what everyone else does, but I’ve always been too shy to try.

***

Soulmate.

Raph’s heart skipped a beat when the word was written on his arm. Soulmate. He had a soulmate. He actually had…Oh my God.

“Raph, are you crying?” Mikey asked, looking up at his older brother, whose eyes certainly looked a little misty.

“N-no. I just got dirt in my eye. Go away.” He sniffled and smiled.

“Whatcha doin’?” the youngest turtle looked over Raph’s shoulder and scanned a few words before he raised his arm far above Mikey’s head, but he had already seen it. Soulmate. “You…you have a soulmate?”

“I guess so.” Raph shrugged. By now, Donnie and Leo were paying attention to what was happening.

“You have a what?” Donnie’s head snapped around. He pulled down Raph’s arm to examine it. But there it was, plain as day. What the internet described as a ‘soulmate exchange’. “I didn’t think it was scientifically possible for you…for us to have…”

“Are you serious?” Leo came over to look.

“What do I look like? A freakin’ museum?” Raph snapped. “Now go away. I gotta write ‘er back.” The others gave him some space as he walked over to the couch and sat down, the tip of the Sharpie hovering over his green arm.

Soulmate, huh? Did think I had one of those. Name’s Raphael. Nice to meet ya.

***

What are you, a renaissance artist? Lol JK

Something like that.

So where are you from, Mr. Renaissance Artist?

New York, New York.

Seattle, Washington. Well, this might be a little complicated, huh?

Something like that…

***

You wrote to Raphael until the sun came up and then you crashed. You had thought it was a dream until you saw the words written there the next morning. You had a soulmate. His name was Raphael. He was from New York.

But at least he existed. It could be a lot worse.

It wasn’t until about noon, three o’clock there, that you wrote to him again, after having wiped your arm off to give you more room to write.

Good morning.

You wake up at noon?

Only when I’m up until sunrise talking to my soulmate.

Fair enough.

So how’s your day been?

Overwhelming.

Fair enough.

***

Leo, Donnie, and Mikey were all bunched behind Raphael to watch.

“Go away!”

“Dude, we just wanna watch.” Mikey whined.

“Go! Away!”

“All right, sheesh,” Donnie walked back to his lab, and Leo and Mikey reluctantly walked away.

So…

He wrote.

What’cha wanna talk about?

I don’t know.

What’s it like in Seattle?

Rainy. What’s it like in New York?

Noisy. He replied, a smirk spreading across his scarred lips. How old are you?

Seventeen.

Same.

Nice. How tall are you?

Like 6’5”-ish.

Holy shit! You’re gonna have to bend down to kiss me.

Kiss you. He was going to kiss you. Eventually. A new concept. Butterflies spread through his stomach, but he tried to play it off.

You a shorty?

Compared to you, yeah. Always had a thing, for tall guys, though. No worries. ;)

He smiled.

Got any hobbies? You asked.

Ninjitsu, bein’ a giant mutant turtle, etc…

Uh, I knit sometimes. And I work out. A lot.

Mr. Muscles the Knitting Renaissance Artist. You keep getting better and better.

So what do you do for fun, Shorty in Seattle?

Oh you know, read, write, spend ungodly amounts of time on the internet.

Sounds fun.

It is. So, anyways, I’ve been looking into New York travel recently (and by recently I mean right now immediately) for reasons, you know. Anyway, what area of New York should I travel to in…ten months when I go to college (that I’ve just applied to) there?

***

After a long day of talking to you and patrolling and trying to work out, Raph was exhausted. He laid in his top bunk, reading your ramble with a smile.

After replying, he knew it was time to go to sleep.

I’m wiped. I gotta sleep.

Oh, okay. Goodnight Raph.

Night, (nickname).

I love you.

His heart skipped a beat.

I love you too.

I can’t wait to meet you.

Already countin’ down the days, babe.

Me too.

***

Weeks later, you got an idea.

So, theoretically, if I were to Skype you, would you pick up?

I don’t have a Skype.

I want to hear your voice.

I can call you, if you want. I just don’t do video chats?

Why?

Because I’m a giant freaking mutant turtle and I don’t want my soulmate to hate and/or be afraid of me.

I want to see you for the first time in person.

All right then. Here’s my number.

You waited in bated breath for your phone to ring, and then suddenly it did. Your thumb hovered above the accept button. You felt like your whole body was trembling.

“Hey there.” You could hear the shaking in your voice. He chuckled, and already you loved the sound of his laugh.

“Hey yourself,”

“Oh my God, I love your voice.” You gushed.

“I love yours too, shorty.”

“Aaaaah! Your accent is so hot!”

“Heh, yeah.” He smiled.

“Ooh, are you talking to (Y/N)?” Mikey asked. “Can I say hi?”

“No, you can’t. Shoo.”

“Who’s that?” You asked.

“My little brother.” Mikey tried to reach up and grab Raph’s phone, but he squirmed away from him. “Mikey, go away!”

“But-!”

“Go away!”

“I wanna say hi to your girlfriend!!”

“Mikey, leave Raph alone.” Leo smirked from across the lair. The youngest brother left, deflated.

“Sorry ‘bout that. Where were we?”

“I was gushing over your very attractive voice, Mr. Muscles.”

“Ah. Right.” He tried not to blush and failed miserably. A slow smirk snuck across his lips. “I love you.”

“I love you too!”

***

“Did you get it yet?” Raph called you a few months before you were supposed to arrive. As the day approached, he got more and more anxious. You would be here in New York and he wouldn’t be able to skirt around the truth anymore. He was a giant turtle and you were a human girl. It wasn’t going to work out.

But nonetheless, he had sent you something. Something to remember him by if it didn’t work out, he supposed.

“It came in today! I haven’t opened it yet, though. I’m going to right now. Give me a sec, I’m gonna put you on speaker.”

“All right.” Raph listened as you set down your phone and put him on speaker. Then came the noise of you cutting the tape and opening the small cardboard box and sifting through the tissue paper.

“Oh my gosh! It’s amazing! I love it! You really made this?”

“I did.” He smirked. You held up the perfect little pendant. A polished wooden turtle that Raphael had carved himself. It hung from a simple twine string. You put it on immediately, tying the necklace around your neck. You let your fingers run over all of the intricate little grooves.

“I’m never taking it off, I hope you know that.”

“I’m flattered.” He chuckled. “I can’t wait to see how it looks on ya.”

“I can’t wait to see you.”

A nervous little laugh.

“Yeah. Pretty soon, now.”

“It couldn’t come soon enough.” You smiled warmly. “It’s late. I’m gonna get some sleep. Exams tomorrow and then I’m out of school for the summer. And then, only two months until I get to see you.”

“Well, you rest up, shorty. Get good grades. I don’t want ya to fail.”

“Good night. I love you.”

“I love ya too. Night.”

When he hung up, he stared at the ceiling. God, what was he gonna do?

***

You were full of jitters when you landed in New York two short months later. The time had crawled by so slow, but you passed the time. And now you were here, the center of the modern world.

“I’m here! I just landed! When do you want to meet up?”

“Um, how about you get settled? Go to your apartment or whatever. I’ll come over tonight.”

“Okay.” Your heart raced. “Okay. I’ll see you then. I’ll uh, get you the address once I find it.”

“Sounds like a plan. Stay safe. I’ll see ya tonight.”

“See you.” When you hung up, Raph started to pace through the lair.

“I’m going to see her tonight. Oh my God. She’s gonna find out I’m a giant turtle and she’s gonna hate me.”

“Statistically, after ten months of-”

“No more science bulllshit, Don! I’m a freak! She’s gonna run screamin’ and I’ll never see her again!”

“It’ll be fine, Raph. You’re over reacting. As usual.” Leo’s tone was cool, annoyed. “She loves you. We’d have to be blind not to see that.”

“I guess we’ll find out tonight, huh?” He slumped onto the couch, a deep dread setting in. Tonight was not going to be pretty. He knew it.

***

After you had unpacked and met your roommate, a very nice woman named April who had been searching for a roommate for some time now, you called Raph and gave him an address. He asked about how things were and so you told him about your roommate. He chuckled. Well, that might make things a little easier. He told you he wasn’t far and he would be over in a few.

“Who’s that?” April asked after you hung up.

“My soulmate. He’s the reason I moved here, actually. He’s coming here if that’s okay.”

“More than fine with me.” She smiled. “What’s his name?”

“Raphael.” You told her. Her face lit up in surprise. Now the turtle necklace she had complimented you on when you walked in made a whole lot of sense. She doubted that you knew why though.

So this was the (Y/N) he had talked about. His soulmate. Shorty from Seattle.

“Nice name.”

“I know, right?” Your phone buzzed. “Oh my God, it’s him.”

“Hey babe, come outside.” You stood there in confusion for a second. “Fire escape.”

“Oh, okay. I’ll be down in a sec.” You nodded, tucking the phone away. Your heart raced as you climbed out the window and down the metal fire escape to the alley below. There, in the shadows stood a very tall, very large silhouette.

“Hey there.” It was him. His voice. In person. “I uh, I need ya to promise me something, gorgeous.”

“What?”

“Just…p-promise you won’t scream.”

“Why would I-?”

“Promise.”

“I promise.” You stated certainly.

“I, uh, I ain’t exactly…normal.”

“I love you, Raph.”

“You won’t when you see me.” His voice was quiet as all of his insecurities came to the surface.

“Raphael,” You reached out for him, hand forward for a long few moments until his three-fingered green one met it, pressing against it like Tarzan and Jane. Something familiar and something foreign. You gasped quietly, but when he moved to pull away, you gripped one of his large fingers. “Please.”

He let out a long sigh, considering bolting then and there, but he gave in and took a few slow, heavy steps out of the dark to where you could see him. Your soulmate was a giant mutant turtle. He waited for the sting of rejection, for the tears of disappointment streaming down your cheeks, but they never came. Instead, you pulled his muscular arms around yourself, clinging to him as though this was your last chance. He held you tight against his plastron, his knees giving out in the wave of relief that washed over him. Raph buried his face in the crook of your neck, and you felt hot tears against your skin.

Thank you.” A broken whisper from his scarred lips. “Thank you.”

“I love you.” You kissed his cheek and then his forehead, and you lifted his face to look at the green face under the tattered red bandana.

“All ‘uh this don’t bug you?” He asked, tear-filled green eyes searching yours. “You don’t care that I’m a freak?”

“You’re not a freak, Raphael.” The feeling of your soft skin against his face drove him up the wall in the best possible way. “Not to me.”

“Are ya just sayin’ that because I’m your soulmate?”

“I mean it.” You locked eyes with him and he felt as though you were staring into his soul. His smile was the most gorgeous thing you had ever seen. Curiosity sparked behind your eyes as you examined every inch of him, taking him in. “What are you?”

There wasn’t hatred or fear in your voice, only awe.

“I’m a mutant. A turtle. Hence the uh-” he motioned to the necklace around your neck. “That.”

“I love turtles,” You whispered as you kissed his snout. You were so close. So close he could just about…

You closed the gap between you, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. He didn’t know how to respond, but followed his instincts and tried his hardest to kiss you back. His large hands held your hips and your small hands framed his jaw before moving to his shoulders, fingers gently searching the terrain of his shell.

When you finally pulled away from him, you looked at him for a long time.

“Hey do you wanna come up for pizza?” April called down from the apartment window.

“Yeah, sure April. Are the guys coming?”

“Just got off the phone with Leo. They’re on their way.”

“Wait, you two know eachother?” You asked. Raph smiled and shrugged, finally getting to his feet and taking you with him. God, he was so tall.

“We go way back.” April smiled. “I named him.”

“What?”

“Long story. Come on, shorty.” He picked you up off of the ground as if you weighed nothing and carried you on his hip, your feet dangling a foot in the air. “’Bout time you met my brothers, huh?”

***

After you had met his brothers and enjoyed some celebratory pizza, the six of you had settled down to watch a movie. At the moment, Raph was spread out on the couch with you laying on top of him and a cozy red blanket draped over both of you. He nuzzled into your neck as your hands traced gentle circles on his plastron.

“I love you, Raphael.” You kissed his jaw. He hummed contentedly.

“I love you too, soulmate.” The word had never sounded so right.

When you find a new friend in the strangest way.

cat hybrid!yoongi/reader

What were you thinking?

You don’t know what possessed you to go to a hybrid adoption facility and want to pick out a hybrid of your own. You felt bad that you could only choose one of the many hybrids presented before you. All were of various species accentuated with different colors, shapes, and sizes.

“You can go in if you want.” The employee next to you responds, having spotted you looking at the hybrids through the glass window.

The room was pretty spacious but you were afraid that if you went inside you would try and take them all home with you. It looked like a cross between a playground and recreational room. There were beds for them to sleep, a TV off to the side, and lots of blankets and pillows.

“If there’s one you want to interact with personally, we have rooms available for you, if you’re not comfortable going inside with all of them. It can get overwhelming sometimes.”

You watched all the hybrids for a bit. There were a couple of rabbits running around in a game of chase, bounding through the other hybrids as well as hopping over stray toys and scattered furniture pieces. The foxes were playing with a soccer ball, rolling it back and forth and a few of them even went to mess with the other hybrids nearby. Literally all of the dog hybrids were play wrestling each other and you could see tufts of fur flying through the air. Most of the cats were either asleep or lazily tossing balls of yarn here and there.

You notice a small white cat hybrid tucked away from everyone else, including the other cats, curled up in a ball high on top of one of the shelves. He wasn’t sleeping, rather he was lying there and observing all the other hybrids with a smidge of boredom adorning his features, white tail flicking lazily back and forth like a pendulum. His white ears contrasted the black locks of his hair as they twitched to each of the sounds. You noticed that he looked…lonely, yet there was a hint of sadness somewhat hidden in his eyes, and your heart ached at the sight.

I’m now an incoming freshman heading off to college this fall. I’m very happy to say that I survived the college application and acceptance process. Here are some tips/advice I have for high school seniors applying to college in the U.S. Best of luck to anyone applying this fall! Feel free to drop an ask if you need advice.

  • Some schools use Common App, others don’t. Visit the college’s official website. If you search them on the Common App and they’re not there, chances are you’ll have to go to another website to apply.
  • Avoid asking friends to look over your essay. You might feel tempted to ask them for advice. You’re better off asking a teacher for critiques. They’re professionals, and they can help you get your essay in the right direction. I suggest asking English teachers because they’re great when it comes to grammatical errors and the like.
  • For the Common App essay, keep brainstorming. Keep writing. Keep editing.  I cannot stress this enough. If you feel that your essay isn’t working, toss it out. Don’t waste your time writing something that doesn’t reflect who you are.
  • Avoid reading other people’s essays. There’s a reason why their prose and topic works for them. Your essay is meant to reflect who you are as an individual. Reading their essays will not help you in writing yours. There’s no formula. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to write about an accomplishment or the time you won something. Don’t write it for them, write it for you.
  • START EARLY ON ESSAYS. This is not an essay you can write the night before. A majority of colleges view your essay as one of the main factors in your acceptance. This is not something to blow off or take lightly. You need to spend at least a few weeks or more to craft your essay.
  • Schools will require ADDITIONAL ESSAYS. Check the Common App or an alternative website for these additional essays. They’re often called “supplemental essays.” Make sure you get these extra essays looked over as well!
  • Recommendations. Some colleges require none. Others ask for as many as 3. Most applications ask for a rec from a counselor and teacher. The Common App gives you the option of getting a rec from a non-academic teacher like a coach.
    • Some teachers get swamped with several requests for a recommendation. Start asking within the first few weeks of school.
    • The teachers you’re getting recs from should know you very well, they should be familiar with your success as a student and as an overall person.
    • If you’re planning on asking, the best way to go is by seeing the teacher in person. It’s more genuine and direct. Send an email as last resort.
  • Own a planner or notebook to keep track of deadlines and tasks. I suggest getting a mini notebook just for college applications. In the notebook, I would write down: deadlines, essays that need to be edited/looked over, colleges you’re applying to, transcripts that need to be sent, etc. Check off tasks when you get them done. Use the calendar for deadlines.
  • Work on applications during the weekday. It sounds hectic, believe me, but you’ll save yourself the stress. Work on application related tasks every night, whether it’s editing a paragraph of your essay or sending in those AP scores. That way, you can be efficient during the weekday and weekend.
  • DEADLINES ARE DIFFERENT FOR EARLY ACTION, EARLY DECISION, and REGULAR DECISION APPLICANTS. KEEP TRACK OF THESE DEADLINES.
    • Early decision: If you apply early and you get in, you’re automatically binded to that school. You must attend and decline all your other applications to other schools.
    • Early action: If you apply early and you get in, you don’t have to worry about applying later on. You are not binded to that school.
    • Regular decision: You apply at the normal deadline. They notify you later than the early applicants. You are not binded to any schools.
  • Do your research about your colleges, their test score policies, which AP test scores they accept, etc. Your best bet is visiting the college’s official website and/or checking the requirements on Common App. Write these down because colleges ask for different requirements.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help from a teacher, counselor, Google, a college representative, family, and your friends. They are your greatest assets. I pretty much got the best help from asking my friends because they had older siblings who went through the college app process.
  • Avoid College Confidential. Enough said.
  • Don’t hold back, and don’t give up. I never would have imagined getting into my dream school but I did. You’d be surprised at what you’re capable of as long as you stay true to yourself and work hard.
  • Senior year will take a lot of your time away from friends and family. Make sure to keep in touch with them frequently! Take breaks. Please do not prioritize school before your mental health. Your health is more important.
  • Your test scores are just a number. It does not define your actual intelligence nor does it define your value as a human being. Your scores may not be within the range of the school but it doesn’t mean you won’t get in because of it. That being said, you should still try and study for them. You have the option of taking the ACT/SAT again in senior year.
  • Your activities and extracurriculars are really important. Colleges want to see what you’re passionate about when you’re not a student in the classroom. They will ask you to list what clubs or activities you’ve been involved in since entering high school. Leadership positions and volunteer hours are wonderful additions.
  • It can get stressful and frustrating, so make sure you space out all the tasks you have to get done. Remember to take breaks, have fun, and relax once in a while. A clear, relaxed mind works better than a mind under severe stress and lack of sleep.
  • Senioritis is real. You sometimes have to step back and punch senioritis in the face. Even the best students fall prey to this contagious disease. Colleges DO look at your second semester grades, don’t let them slip. Start strong, finish strong.
    • Senior year is said to be one of the best years of your life. Sure it’s gonna get tough in the beginning but once you’re done, you’re ready to go off to college before you know it.

Good luck and have a wonderful year!

Advice for the types from an ENTJ

(NOTE: this is all based on people I know personally, and all are around college aged so they have not fully matured)

ESFJ: Tradition for the sake of tradition is not always a good thing. Societal change is not always a bad thing.

ISFJ: Change is not always fun, but it is sometimes necessary. You know this, so put it into action.

ENTJ: Tone down the aggressiveness. You may not see a problem with it, but many of the people around you do.

INTJ: Don’t assume you know how the world works, people are far too complicated to fit into your systems.

ESTJ: Being nice is wonderful, but that is tarnished when you say highly inappropriate and offensive things. Words have power, use them wisely.

ISTJ: I don’t actually know any ISTJs, so keep on doing you.

ESTP: Breaking boundaries, rules, and norms for the sake of it often ends badly. Sometimes they are there for good reason.

ISTP: Distrusting those around you makes you appear unstable and paranoid. Let others in.

ENFP: Two words- impulse control. Please have some.

INFP: People do not fit into your romanticized view of them, be a little realistic when it comes to those around you. This includes yourself.

ESFP: Giving people the benefit of the doubt is not always the healthiest move. People are often times just unhealthy to be around.

ISFP: People can not be divided into solely good and solely bad, the world does not always work like that. Most people have some shade of grey.

ENFJ: It is not always a good idea to try to look from other people’s perspectives. Sometimes you have to stand firm in your own convictions.

INFJ: Passivity is not a good look on you. When you are in an unhealthy situation, do something to change it don’t just accept it.

ENTP: Hopping from one person to the next to fulfill a need for excitement can be hurtful to those around you. Be steadier in your friendships.

INTP: Antagonizing people for the sake of humor is not actually funny for anyone but you. Stop.

minho in college
  • double major in primary education and history
  • wants to teach elementary school!!!!
  • varsity soccer so he has the custom backpack that says CHOI and always wears something uni-related
  • like seriously….. seeing him not in a some sort of three-quarter zip or sweater with the uni’s name emblazoned on it is shocking af (taemin: go away we haven’t gotten new shipment since the last time you were here which was yesterday you already own the ENTIRE store
  • he also owns uni socks which he unironically wears all the time and all the different types of shot glasses (onew’s broken at least three of them but minho just whips out extras, srsly they’re never ending)
  • a literal walking, talking uni advertisement (key: pls let me take you shopping for something else / minho: i have other clothes / key: WHERE)
  • in theory he probably should work at the bookstore but he sees how much taemin hates his job and if he can just use his discount there’s no need~
  • was actually scouted to be a campus tour guide (literally someone came up to him and begged him to join bc he was perfect for the job) and he is ridiculously good at it
  • also he could walk backwards well which is why onew did not make the cut
  • did so much extra research about the college so that he could be prepared for any questions and also to have fun facts on hand
  • which also came in handy for boring his friends to submission with very dry versions of the history of each and every building and sometimes he just does it for shits and giggles
  • once he came into the cafe during onew’s and jong’s shift and started reciting the history of the building they were in and the origin of the coffee bean and their faces were just pure panic bc they couldn’t even RUN AWAY and they can’t even fight their costumers even though they are being GIANT JERKS (jong: i will give you two coffees out of my own pocket for you to stop / minho: awww hyung you’re so sweet pls make them ventis)
  • but he’s just SO enthusiastic about his school that many incoming students could attribute their decision to come here to choi minho, master tour guide
  • he also volunteers at after-school programs in elementary schools and the students always scramble to him when they see him coming in
  • helps them with their homework and reads to them and lets the lil ones tie tufts of his hair (minho: do i look pretty?? / kid: the prettiest!!)
  • he’s so sweet with them and they always want to climb up on his shoulders and he lets them and holds their arms out like an airplane (and so that they won’t fall) and zooms around the room
  • avid college sports fan
  • no matter what the game, you can probably hear minho cheering loudly from the bleachers
  • someone got this great snapshot of him with football stripes on his cheeks and yelling which was blown up to larger-than-life proportions and lives in the welcome center
  • arguably his proudest achievement (”look mom i made it”)
  • srsly the school should honestly give him free tuition for all the endorsement he does as the uni’s poster boy
  • when studying he’s usually locked up with onew in the library but he’s also known to always keep his notes on him so he could study during breaks at soccer practice
  • he always has bananas on him that he’ll totally just give to anyone who asks but it’s a lot of bananas
  • also never skips breakfast no matter what so he’s seen a lot sprinting to class with a piece of toast in his mouth like an anime character

You will never forget the first time you met the Avengers. It was a pretty surreal moment for you. And all because your boyfriend had went to college with the most well known member of the team.

A party invitation had been sent to the apartment the one day and you almost had to do a double-take, noticing the address it said where the invite came from. For a second you almost thought that it was a practical joke from one of Greg’s buddies.

“Hey, hun,” you said to him as you walked into the kitchen. “This isn’t another joke from Billy, is it?” And you tossed the envelope into his lap.

PART 2:

It was the weekend and that meant partying. Although you were a teacher and you had to maintain your professional aura, everyone deserves some fun right? You went out with your best friend from college, Ashley. She always encouraged you to have a bit more fun, out of your comfort zone, but sometimes she had some shitty suggestions.

You guys went to your favorite club, and as per usual,  Ashley got drunk after like one drink.

“Hey Y/N, I dare you to sleep with someone tonight and then tell them you have a boyfriend to freak them out. Tell them that your boyfriend will kill them, tell them he’s in the mafia!"  she giggled drunkenly to you.

"What the hell is wrong with you Ashley? You have bad ideas.” you playfully hit her.

Please don’t pass judgement on something you don’t understand.

I just read an article about a sorority recruitment video that “is worse for women than Donald Trump”–I read the entire article and watched the video, expecting some horrendous taboo recruitment video. I didn’t get what I expected. It was a complete run of the mill plain Jane recruitment video. The article states"It’s all so racially and aesthetically homogeneous and forced, so hyper-feminine, so reductive and objectifying, so Stepford Wives: College Edition. It’s all so … unempowering,”. When in reality it shows a group of girls goofing around, having fun and bonding with each other to form a sisterhood. Sisterhood is ultimately the reason a girl joins a sorority in the first place, so showcasing that is an extremely important part of the recruitment process. Speaking from experience, the making these types of videos is sometimes choreographed and sometimes someone just pulls out a camera and starts filming friends joking around, sitting and talking.

Do the girls all have on nice outfits, their hair done and makeup on? Yes! Of course! Why would somebody post a video of their sorority looking like crap? That’s not going to attract PNMs. In many sororities, including my own, sisters pride themselves on appreciating beauty, both of themselves and their surroundings. This isn’t in vain or for shallow reasons, but simply because when we look our best, we feel our best. We are confident and ready to conquer anything. When we wear our letters or represent our houses, we are encouraged to spend a little extra time grooming in the morning to look put together. Similarly when I went on field trips in high school, we were instructed to wear nicer clothes and be nicely groomed because we were representing our school. There’s nothing wrong with taking pride in yourself.

Thirdly, the author tells us that the video is lacking : any mention of core ideals or service and philanthropy efforts”. Recruitment videos are meant to be supplemental. They are shown to PNMs DURING the recruitment process. These PNMs are also talking to the sisters about their values and philanthropies. In fact, when I went through recruitment, the video was shown during our philanthropy round. We met with the girl who was recruiting us, talked about the philanthropy that house was involved in, watched the video, and did a small craft for the philanthropy (i.e. making sugar free iced tea lemonade for the JDRF walk when the philanthropy is Diabetes Research and Education). We don’t see it in the 5 minute video, but we talk about the values of the houses for 4 days, each time we visit.

The author concludes saying “It’s the kind of thing I never want my young daughters to see or emulate.” That’s very sad, I want my daughter to emulate sorority women. Women who share a bond that lasts a lifetime. Women who seek wisdom, who aspire to keep their bodies and minds healthy, speak kindly with those who they meet and cherish the friendships they make along the way. I want her to be a woman who looks for ways to contribute to her community and show respect for herself, her home, and her beliefs. I want my daughter to be honest, kind and sincere. I want her to have high ambitions and find a way to reach them. That is the kind of woman I want to be, I want to raise and that is the kind of woman that is in a sorority.

RANT OVER. Please, just do research and find the appropriate information on a subject before you pass judgment. Not everything about a system can be shown in a 5 minute video that’s meant to be an advertisement.

Being a Freshmen in college you’re considered the “Fresh Meat” and you were ready. After moving in day and orientation, you start to get into a routine and getting comfortable with your schedule and the campus. But coming from a strict household and a strict high school; risque clothes were always off limits and now that you’re an adult and in college; why not live a little?

You always start your day by getting up at the crack of dawn and go for a run around the campus and the trail in the neighboring woods; where sometimes you pass handsome upper Classmen who seem to take interest in you.

Normally, you would wear shorts and a sports bra but today you were feeling a little frisky and you knew if you played your cards well you could get some fun perhaps. So today you decided to wear black leggings and white tank top to show off your curves and you put your hair into a ponytail before running towards the woods.

As soon as you came up to the woods you saw him. He was coming towards you and you acted like your shoe came undone. So with your back facing him, you turn around and pretend to fix your shoe; showing off your butt and curves. You whip around when you were done and found him checking you out a little.

“Oh hey…sorry about that…Didn’t see you there.” you say blushing.

He chuckles a bit. “It’s alright..you look…yummy.” he said to you.

You try to play your cards right and pretend you don’t know what that means. “I look yummy?” you questioned him.

“Yeah, ya’ know…” he smirked.

You tap your chin as if thinking. “No, I’m afraid I don’t.”

He chuckles at you again. “Well first off, I’m Namjoon. Secondly, why don’t I show you?” he says as his hands found your waist and pulls you closer to him.

A shiver spreads down your spine as you think how your plan worked as you feel an ache in between your legs. “I’m Y/N..and sure?” you say as you still decide to play the innocent card even though he is about to find out how far from innocent you were.

He lets go of your waist and slaps your ass. “Run into the woods and I’ll catch you.” he says in a tone you weren’t sure of.

You thought it was a weird way to start foreplay but you decided to do it anyways. You stand there a moment longer to see what he does.

“Go I said!” he says sternly.

Just what you were looking for, he wanted to show his dominance by making you his prey. So you start off in a light jog until you hear him coming up behind you before taking off in a full sprint.

“Dammit!” he growled under his breath.

You smirk to yourself as you hide behind a tree and watch as he runs right past you but seemed to not notice you. You relax a little until you feel hands rip your leggings down and you feel warm fingers at your soaking core while a strong arm pins you to the tree.

“Though I wouldn’t guess you’d try and hide from me princess, did you? Well now I’m going to show you what yummy really means.” he growls as he gets on his knees and starts to attack your core from behind while you cling onto the tree for support.

His tongue works at your entrance as his fingers occupied with your clit, rubbing and pinching. You moan at the sensations that were making you wetter. You feel him enter a single, then two fingers into your tight entrance and a thumb in your forbidden place. He fingers you hard while having stood up and kisses your neck and holds your throat.

“Is that what you want huh? You like that?” he teased.

You look at him as you start to push back against his hand to show you want more. Much more. You see him smirk and takes his fingers out of your holes before he pulled his shorts down to reveal his thick cock. He undresses you with haste before you feel the tip of his cock at your entrance. “God you’re so wet and tight!” he hisses as you felt him thrust inside you.

“Oohh..mm yes…fuck me please..” you moaned into a beg as he filled you up.

He pulls at your hair and fucks you so hard your moans grow louder and louder. You could hear his breathing getting heavier as he drills into you. He then pulls almost all the way out before thrusting back in forcefully. He does that a couple of times before he pulls out completely.

Namjoon then uses his shirt and shorts as a blanket before he lays down on them and makes you straddle him. “I don’t want you to ride me, just let me do the work.” he says to you and so you let him.

You hear a twig snap behind you but you ignore it. Thinking it’s just Namjoon’s foot having snapped it. But then you felt a wet dick tip against your forbidden place.

“You thought you were the one playing a game, when you were the one getting played.” Namjoon’s friend Yoongi smiles and whispers into your ear as his dick pushes into your forbidden place while Namjoon still fucks you from below.

“Y-Yoongi here has wanted to fuck you since day one, so why not fucking do your slutty ass?” Namjoon says as he put a hand over your mouth and the two of them pound into you. Harder and faster.

You moan into his hand and start to buck as you come undone for what feels like forever. Then you feel their dicks hardening. “Come in me…I want you to fill my holes, make me your dirty slut.” you murmured into Namjoon’s hand and you feel them both come in you at the same time as they let out moans of ecstasy.

Then all of you got up and got dresses as if nothing happened. You checked your watch to see the time. Two minutes before class! But before you could head that way, a hand grasped your wrist. You turn around to see a smug Namjoon and a smirking Yoongi. “You’re ours now.” they hissed before releasing you to go to class.

The Sophomore

Inside Choices is a behind-the-scenes blog from the Pixelberry team!

Last month, The Freshman ended on a high note at the Aurora music festival after a road trip with your friends. Now it’s time to head back to school in The Sophomore! To make The Sophomore happen, the team behind The Freshman worked around the clock to set the scene for your second year of college. With the new book out in the wild, I managed to grab its writers for a few questions:

What does The Sophomore have in store for everyone?

Chelsa: We don’t want to spill all the beans, but I think we can safely say that it’s going to be a whole lot of fun! Sophomore year is when a lot of people work on finding themselves and figuring out their passions. We really tried to progress the storyline with the idea that these characters have been together at Hartfeld for over a year and show that through their personal and professional growth.

What’s new and different about The Sophomore? How does The Sophomore put a fresh spin on The Freshman?

Saran: All your favorite characters will be back, but they’re slowly growing and changing, of course. We’re introducing a new ‘encouragement’ system that allows you to help your friends follow their dreams—and they’ll be inclined to help you in return. The biggest new feature is the introduction of the closet where you can see the full head-to-toe look of your outfit, just like in #LoveHacks. We’re also really excited about some new songs for the soundtrack debuting in this book!

Will we be meeting any new friends? Love interests? *wink wink*

Maya: It wouldn’t be a Sophomore book if you didn’t! There are some new faces coming in this book, both friends and enemies alike. As far as love interests go, you’ll just have to play and find out. Some Freshman players already know who your emerging love interest is, and boy do we have plans for her. There may even be new possibilities for some of your single friends!

What I loved about The Freshman was the way a group of unlikely friends were there for each other through the ups and downs of college life. More serious topics have been tackled in recent books. Can you talk a little bit about that?

Saran: Be warned: Spoilers up through Freshman Book 4 ahead! I think the college years are important for many because it’s a time of self-discovery and personal growth. In the last book, we delved into Zack’s breakup, Zig coming out to your friends as bisexual, and Becca struggling with her parents’ divorce. We wanted to show that these are part of the normal ups and downs of life. For players with similar experiences, we hope they’ll see that they’re not alone and others have gone through the same things.

Chelsa: I personally feel pretty lucky that the rest of my team feels as passionate and dedicated to some of these more delicate issues as I do. I suffer from anxiety myself, and have had many friends suffer similar breakdowns to the ones that haunt Zack in book four, and I hope that we showed people that it’s really, really important to create a conversation about it, especially with the people that love you.

Maya: It feels great when you’re represented in media you care about, and when it comes to bisexuality, too often it’s a sexuality that’s erased or skirted around. Regarding Zack, it was heartwarming to see how many players picked up on what he was experiencing and were full of support. We want to continue trying our best to dispel stigmas through our writing.

Who’s your favorite character to write in The Freshman (well, now The Sophomore)?

Chelsa: My favorite character is Zig, definitely! I had so much fun putting together his look and personality when he was created for Book 3. I even have some Tumblr fanart of him as my phone background right now.

Saran: I’ve always been a fan of Twombly, myself! I appreciate her friendliness and comedic relief.

Maya: Becca! I’m so excited about the story arc we have planned for her in The Sophomore. She can be such a brat, but since meeting you, she’s developed this inexplicable urge to sometimes be… nice? What in the world is happening to her?!

For some of us, playing The Sophomore means reliving our college years. What was your favorite part of college?

Chelsa: Probably my Freshman year when I lived in the college dorms. One of the crappy things about adulting is all of your friends are busy with their careers, or live in different cities, or are getting married. I miss the days where if you were bored, you just went and knocked on the door next to you.

Maya: I personally really enjoyed my classes - what a nerd!! I also loved finding myself in this new place where I could be whoever I wanted. I remember walking to class at the beginning of my freshman year and telling myself ‘you are a smart, confident, beautiful person, and nobody here knows you well enough to think otherwise’. I basically faked it until I felt it, and then continued to build this sense of self throughout college.

Any tips or wisdom for current college students?

Chelsa: Something I still think works well for me outside of school is to remember to give yourself a break every once in a while. Sometimes the best way to study for a test or finish an essay is to take a step back and do something you enjoy for a little while. Staring at the same problem for hours doesn’t help you solve that problem. Also, if you’re not a morning person, don’t take a 7 am class. You will not get up for that 7 am class.

Saran: Get more sleep, don’t skip class, and take advantage of all the opportunities around you (seriously, there are endless resources on campus for finding internships, residencies, study abroad programs, grants, and more, and tons of people who will help you with any of them). Go forth and conquer!

To everyone reading along, be sure to check your game for new weekly chapters and more. The summer isn’t over yet, and we’ve got more on the way! 💕
