cob spoiler

When reading CoB aloud to your 13 year old sister directly after reading CoHF, it occurs to you how fucking beautiful all of these characters are, and how much they’ve grown up.

  • Jace was a whiny, emotionally explosive emo dick who was so afraid of hurting people that he intentionally hurt people to keep them away.  He was a dick to his parabatai,
  • Isabelle hated other girls, because that’s how afraid she was of being less than the best, less than beautiful and loved.  She’d go out with guys who treated her like shit so that she’d have attention.
  • Alec was painfully shy, a bit clave-y racist, so far in the closet that he spoke moth and madly in love with his parabatai, despite his lack of actual attraction to him.
  • Clary was egocentric, incredibly reckless and very naive.  She’d pout and throw fits.
  • Simon genuinely thought the friendzone existed.  He felt slightly entitled to Clary’s affection, and he was sort of very whiny.  He was the ‘damsel’ in distress, most of the time.

The growth since then is so fucking immense.  Jace’s transformation is probably most dramatic, and it’s even addressed in CoHF.  He’s become a better person because of what happened.  Clary is more selfless and considerate, she’s very caring and fiercely loyal and a great person.  Alec is warmer and friendlier, he’s confident in his sexuality and isn’t racist anymore.  Isabelle is more confident and doesn’t hate other women, and Simon’s gained some respect and some agency.

They were all good characters book one.  But the series made them dynamic.  It made them, in my opinion, great characters.

Every Fangirl uses the line "But they should still be together" (Ex: Clace in The Mortal Instruments)
  • City of Bones: "Sure they're brother and sister…but they should still be together."
  • City of Ashes: "Yeah Clary's dating Simon… but they should still be together."
  • City of Glass: "So Clary killed his adoptive dad… but they should still be together."
  • City of Fallen Angels: "I mean I know Jace dreamed of stabbing her… but they should still be together."
  • City of Lost Souls: "So he was possesed by her actual, evil, brother… but they should still be together."
  • City of Heavenly Fire: "Yeah Jace has the heavenly fire in him that can burn Clary… but they should still be together."

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare-First and Last Lines

These are the first and last lines of each book. No doubt someone has already done this, but I wanted to put my spin on it. The colors of each book is based off the main color the cover is.

We are all the pieces of what we remember. We hold in ourselves the hopes and fears of those who love us. As long as there is love and memory, there is no true loss.

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare-First and Last Appearances

These were the hardest to find and a lot of the characters got the same first or last appearances. I did the colors based on what my color my mind associates the character with. I associate Clary with green or red and went with red this time around. Jace is gold to me. Simon could be green, red, or brown, depending on how I’m feeling. Alec is always blue, no matter what. Isabelle is red, also no matter what. Magnus is either green or purple to me. I chose purple this time. Maia is actually an amber color to me, but since I couldn’t find it, I went with brown.

First and last sentences of The Mortal Instruments series

Black for hunting through the night

For death and mourning the color’s white

Gold for a bride in her wedding gown

And red to call the enchantment down

White silk when our bodies burn

Blue banners when the lost return

Flame for the birth of a Nephilim

And to wash away our sins.

Gray for the knowledge best untold

Bone for those who don’t grow old

Saffron lights the victory march

Green to mend our broken hearts

Silver for the demon towers

And bronze to summon wicked powers

TMI movie spoiler (parabatai)

Is anyone going to bring up the fact that they never even mentioned parabatai? Jace didn’t seem to care about Alec at all.

In the book when Alec gets hurt and the car ride back to the institute, we can see how scared Jace is, and I love that, it shows how much he really cares.

It annoys me how much it looked like they just happened to live at the institute together and Alec just happened to have a crush on Jace. ALEC IS A HUGE AND IMPORTANT PART OF JACE’S LIFE, THEY ARE FAMILY! In the movie it seems like Jace thinks Alec is a pain in the ass, and he’ll rather be with Clary all the time.

Don’t get me wrong, I really, really liked this movie, but this is the part that disturbes me the most.
