I met Blake Peden, 20, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, where he waits tables part-time while going to Coahoma Community College. He hopes to become a pediatrician one day.

“I really just want to help people,” he says. “I just know that I’ll always be able to find a job, and that’s what I’m looking for. Something stable.”

He grew up in Rena Lara, about 12 miles from Clarksdale, and “really liked it - it’s really nice” but he hopes to leave Mississippi.

“I would go anywhere besides Mississippi - I just want to get out of here, really,” he says. “Mississippi’s just kind of - not a lot of opportunities and stuff, like other places.”

He’d like to vote but probably won’t because he hasn’t registered yet.
