One of my favorite things about Amethyst is how physically affectionate she is. I mean, look at this little purple nugget of sunshine, hopping around with fits of love so strong she can’t contain or help it, she just has to be expressive.
I had a bunch of ideas for how to make this episode better, along with a redesign of Sugilite, so I’ll start out my rewrites with this one, because I feel the episodes before it are fine. I’ll be rewriting a bunch of other Steven Universe episodes, too.
She’s definitely bigger than Opal, and looks more horrifying and monstrous.
What i can make out of it is that her outfit is pretty messy and uneven, and she has four arms and five eyes, that begs the quesion. Opal had four arms and two eyes, but Sugilite has five eyes. I don’t know what rules fusion appearances follow, but there must be some reason behind that.
I guess, the more “stable” a fusion is, the more human-like it looks, and since Pearl pointed out Sugilite is an unstable fusion, Sugilite looks more monstrous and unhuman.
Her comment makes me think whether fusions are actually sentient creatures with their own will, but only exist when their components are fused, and when they are not the fusion’s mind is put into some kind of a coma, or it’s the two participants’ personalities just mashed together.
Also, real life sugilites are pretty rare, and are commonly found in massive forms, which relates to our Sugilite’s great size. Sugilites also have a pretty complex chemical formula, which can be some kind of a metaphor for an unstable fusion?
