Rene Barbier’s iconic Priorat estate has long been one of my absolute favorites… The 2000 has really come in to its own recently, and tonight’s bottle is showing exceptionally well.
For me, this is a good study in Priorat. Pungent minerality winds seductively around elegant leather aromas… Hints of brett are welcome additions, giving the wine a veneer of real intensity… Underneath are dark fruits and sweet spice with generous oak accents. The acidity is bright and the wine carries all the way along the palate.
I’ve been involved in lots of discussion recently about whether Priorat will be worth holding… If this wine is any indication, I vote emphatically, “Yes.”
