climate change and the city

The  Trump administration deleted the EPA’s climate change website. So, Chicago published it instead.

  • The city of Chicago this weekend added a new climate-change page to its website, and if it sounds familiar it’s because the information on it comes from the climate page the Environmental Protection Agency used to have — until the Trump administration deleted it last week.
  • “While this information may not be readily available on the agency’s webpage right now, here in Chicago we know climate change is real and we will continue to take action to fight it,” the page reads. Read more (5/8/17)

Description of this work of art in Venice from the artist, Lorenzo Quinn. The building that appears to be supported by the hands is is the historic Ca’ Sagredo hotel. The sculpture is on display as part of the 2017 La Biennale di Venezia, an annual art exhibition.

Yes!…so happy to say mission accomplished. ‘SUPPORT’ in Venice to support this wonder of city that is threatened by climate change. I hope my art brings a new focus of attention to a global calamity that we are faced with. Art in 'Support’ of art: Venice is now the art capital of the world during the Venice Biennale but the city of art is threatened and needs our help and protection.

Climatic Oasis #464

Fabian Franciszkiewicz

“2041- Climate change has transformed New York City into a desert. Vegetation is withering and the air is increasingly becoming worse. The population either lives in artificially cooled housing units, only usable due to massive air conditioning systems and the separation to the surrounding environment, or flee to cooler regions. New york ́s vibrant life slowly stagnates. The former metropolis threatens to become a solitary place, extinct due to manmade climate catastrophe.

Amidst this city where life was flourishing, a climatic oasis arises as antithesis to climate refugees and people striving against the alteration.
Oasis #464 is an adaption to the more and more hostile surrounding. A paradise in a futureless environment where natural symbiosis between nature and inhabitants can work again. By creating a microclimate, a sort of climate capsule interacting with its surrounding, plants regain a chance to live.
Thereby housing is harmonised with nature using natural effects in order to generate a climatic comfortable atmosphere.”

San Francisco's Official Response to the Election of Trump

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors recently passed a resolution, introduced by Board President London Breed, in response to the election of Donald Trump. The resolution reads as follows:

WHEREAS, On November 8, 2016, Donald Trump was elected to become the 45th President of the United States; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That no matter the threats made by President-elect Trump, San Francisco will remain a Sanctuary City. We will not turn our back on the men and women from other countries who help make this city great, and who represent over one third of our population. This is the Golden Gate—we build bridges, not walls; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That we will never back down on women’s rights, whether in healthcare, the workplace, or any other area threatened by a man who treats women as obstacles to be demeaned or objects to be assaulted. And just as important, we will ensure our young girls grow up with role models who show them they can be or do anything; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That there will be no conversion therapy, no withdrawal of rights in San Francisco. We began hosting gay weddings twelve years ago, and we are not stopping now. And to all the LGBTQ people all over the country who feel scared, bullied, or alone: You matter. You are seen; you are loved; and San Francisco will never stop fighting for you; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That we still believe in this nation’s founding principle of religious freedom. We do not ban people for their faith. And the only lists we keep are on invitations to come pray together; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That Black Lives Matter in San Francisco, even if they may not in the White House. And guided by President Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing, we will continue reforming our police department and rebuilding trust between police and communities of color so all citizens feel safe in their neighborhoods; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That climate change is not a hoax, or a plot by the Chinese. In this city, surrounded by water on three sides, science matters. And we will continue our work on CleanPower, Zero Waste, and everything else we are doing to protect future generations; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That we have been providing universal health care in this city for nearly a decade, and if the new administration follows through on its callous promise to revoke health insurance from 20 million people, San Franciscans will be protected; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That we are the birthplace of the United Nations, a city made stronger by the thousands of international visitors we welcome every day. We will remain committed to internationalism and to our friends and allies around the world—whether the administration in Washington is or not; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That San Francisco will remain a Transit First city and will continue building Muni and BART systems we can all rely upon, whether this administration follows through on its platform to eliminate federal transit funding or not; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That California is the sixth largest economy in the world. The Bay Area is the innovation capital of the country. We will not be bullied by threats to revoke our federal funding, nor will we sacrifice our values or members of our community for your dollar; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That we condemn all hate crimes and hate speech perpetrated in this election’s wake. That although the United States will soon have a President who has demonstrated a lack of respect for the values we hold in the highest regard in San Francisco, it cannot change who we are, and it will never change our values. We argue, we campaign, we debate vigorously within San Francisco, but on these points we are 100 percent united. We will fight discrimination and recklessness in all its forms. We are one City. And we will move forward together.

The bus I am riding in right now is fucking sub zero, I am an arctic seal biting the edge of my ice flow hole to try and keep breathing, I am shaking like a grandma at a Ricky Martin concert, the bus is lowering the temperature of my city by twenty degrees, climate change scientists everywhere are baffled, chill with the fucking air conditioning it’s not even that hot outside!

Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.

“I’d love to change the world/But I don’t know what to do/So I leave it up to you…” (”I’d Love To Change The World” by Ten Years After)  It is tempting to become complacent about global warming during a snowstorm:)  “Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet” promotes solutions to climate change.  I find it reasonable to believe that pollution on a worldwide level will have global implications.  The expression “better safe than sorry” comes to mind!  “Treat the earth well.  It was not given to you by your parents.  It was loaned to you by your children.” (Kenyan proverb)  (Photo taken on March 14, 2017)

this time last year: 28 degrees outside, 20+ most days

this year: it’s considered a hot day if we break 15

Chicago Reminds Trump's EPA That When It Comes To Climate Change, The Internet Never Forgets
"Burying your head in the sand doesn’t erase the problem."

The City of Chicago has resurrected climate change data that was deleted from the Environmental Protection Agency website under President Donald Trump.

“While this information may not be readily available on the agency’s webpage right now, here in Chicago we know climate change is real and we will continue to take action to fight it.”

Just in time for the COP21 Climate Conference, an organization called Brandalism has hijacked over 600 outdoor ad spaces in the city, replacing them with climate change-related art … and what, at first glance, look like ordinary ads for brands like Total, Air France, Dow Chemicals, GDF Suez and Volkswagen.
The difference is, these ads reveal unpleasant truths.

Under The Mistletoe {Klaus Mikaelson}

Summary: Imagine being Hope’s nanny and getting really close to the family, but end up getting really close with Klaus.

Pairing: Klaus x Y/N

Warning: None

Words: 1816

Requested: ( )Yes (•)No

Lips rough, dry, and cracked, you licked them over and over. Coating the skin with your saliva, easing the damaged skin. Winter showed itself in New Orleans, giving everyone there an unsettling climate change. What was once a hot upbeat jazz filled city, was now a cold lively holiday festive city. The change excited you, seeing everyone filled with happiness and anticipation for what they celebrated in December, you found joy in this. Christmas was here, and while everyone was eating with family, and opening gifts, you was home alone sipping coco, while watching one of your favorite shows. Of course you liked Christmas, but seeing how your family was slaughtered to their death on your seventh Christmas morning, the holiday wasn’t as festive for you like it was for everyone else. Your trip to the cemetery was completed earlier this morning, three candles by the tombstones of your resting family was lit.

Klaus thought you was an amazing super nanny, he had witnessed you go through thick and thin to protect his little girl, without the fear of losing your life. It made him so intrigued by you, things like how you never questioned his family’s demons, or how you never questioned your safety while with them. To the others it was considered and act of loyalty and respect, but to Klaus it was something deeper than that. It was when he had dropped Hope off to your apartment, when he had noticed not one Christmas decoration up. To him your apartment was empty, lonely even, and he couldn’t help but to think about who you really were. After a few compelled locals, and some witches, he had heard the dark tale of your seventh Christmas. Digging even deeper, he discovered that your family’s murder was a vampire attack. Preferably an attack from the local gang vampires in your old neighborhood, Clearwater Rose. Sympathetic towards you, but angry at the vampires who stole your family, he saw it to himself to avenge your family’s legacy.

Hayley adored you so much, and so did Hope. Hayley appreciated your support and endless love for her daughter, so she saw you as family. The two of you were considered sisters in her mind. She wasn’t the only one either, Rebekah, Freya, Elijah, and Kol saw you as a Mikaelson, it was your devoted loyalty and love you showed their family that made them think of you as one of them. That wasn’t just it, seeing your affect on the related Hybrid made them believe you might just end up in the family through marriage. They noticed how Klaus was now one to reject the impulse of ripping the heart from his enemies for a little while, it showed how he wanted too do good by you and his daughter. It was Rebekah who had caught you goggling at her narcissistic wanker of a brother, as she liked to call him. She had recognized the same love and desire you had in your eyes when you looked at Klaus, considering it was the look she’d have when she was in love, and like that she was the first to know you were in love with Klaus. Funny enough Elijah was the first to know that Klaus was in love with you. He had seen it when Lucien boldly approached you, after Klaus and the stable boy had a quarrel. Klaus became highly protective of you, it was only for family and loved ones Elijah had seen Klaus behavior like that. Then he put the pieces together, how everything his brother did seemed to find its way back to you, which was uncommon for Klaus. He was ruthless and still was, but this time he was ruthless when it came to you.

It wasn’t long before everyone caught on, so they invited you to their traditional Christmas party, in hopes that it would bring you and Klaus together. Wearing a black tight fitted dress, you simply let your hair down from its daily ponytail and let it be sprawled across your back and shoulders. You walked into The Abattoir, mesmerized by the decorations. Hearing the sounds of joy and enlightenment, you found the family in courtyard opening presents.

“Y/N!” You heard Rebekah cry out, while she tip toed around the presents and wrapping paper beneath her feet.
