Porto Katsiki is a beach located on the island of Lefkada, in the Ionian Sea. The beach is most famous for its white cliffs, and bright blue water. The beach is a 35km drive from the city of Lefkada. Steps lead down from the top of the cliff, to where sun lounges and beach umbrellas are set up.
The area is a popular place for private yachts to stop for the day, and also attracts boat trips and water taxis from other nearby islands.
Jurassic Coast Lulworth Cove by Tony Via Flickr: The Jurassic Coast consists of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous cliffs, spanning the Mesozoic, documenting 185 million years of geological history. The site can be best viewed from the sea, when the dipping nature of the rock strata becomes apparent.
At the end of the 18th century Georges Cuvier showed that some fossil animals resembled no living ones, thus demonstrating that animals could become extinct; this led to the emergence of palaeontology, the study of fossils.
