Show your blackheads the door!

Blackheads be gone!

Ever wondered what blackheads are? When the oil and dead skin cells that are trapped in your pores make contact with the air, it oxidizes and darkens, causing the familiar appearance of a blackhead. Their favourite place to cluster is around the nose area, where they hang around being annoying! Regular exfoliation is the key, so give blackheads the boot and say hello to clear skin with a product like Simple® Clear Skin Oil Balancing Facial Scrub. It uses ingredients like zinc and chamomile to fight spots and blackheads, while the light scrubbing action removes dead skin cells and keeps pores lovely and clean. So it’s effective and gentle at the same time.

You can go a long way to preventing them with regular exfoliation, though try not to overdo it. “This is a gradual process and needs to be dealt with gently,” says our skin and make-up expert, Caroline Frazer. “Once or twice a week is enough for most people’s skin. Scrubbing too hard can cause irritation to the skin, so it’s important to be gentle.”

Clear Skin & Healthy Hair

I struggled with dark acne scars for a very long time and now I have finally found a regimen to fade them.

Also Im going on a journey to bra strap length hair. So, hopefully these methods not only help you, but keep helping me :)

Time for another update, because it’s been awhile! Okay so my skin became really clear after a week post 2nd micro session, I’m super duper happy with it. My dermatologist reminded me that don’t focus on the redness - that’s past scaring and it will fade with time.

So really my only concern is with the persistent cystic pimples on my jawline/neck area. These have only surfaced in the past 6 months. I’ve been doing research and I wouldn’t be surprised if I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. All the symptoms are accurate, except for the overweight part - I’m super healthy. But the irregular periods makes sense. Mine have been all over the place in the last six months. I either don’t get mine for 6 weeks or I get one every two weeks. Next appointment - I’m going to ask to get a referral for the PCOS testing.

Other than that I’m SO happy and positive. :)

How to deal with problem or spot prone skin

As someone who has always had issues with spot prone skin. I was frustrated at the lack of helpful advice to be found on the internet.  All I ever found were articles that promised answers yet failed to deliver or old wives’ tales that never worked to begin with and my favourite - adverts for expensive treatments snake oil. Some people like myself will always be more prone to spots, but there ARE ways to manage & prevent break outs.

You CAN have better looking skin without having to buy expensive creams or lotions.

I know from personal experience how much bad skin can affect a person’s confidence & self-esteem. That’s why I wanted to write this blog, so I could share with you simple tips that do actually work & do make a difference – I know because I have tried them.

There isn’t just one thing that will magically improve skin it is a mixture of several things. Okay, some of these things you are probably going to think no $h!t & should go without saying but I’m going to say them anyway because they are important.

If you have severe acne or other skin conditions then you may need to see a dermatologist or doctor who can offer a medical solution.

Vitamins and minerals

Zinc tablets:  They really do work, are inexpensive & available at any drug store, supermarket and chemist. Since taking them my skin has improved 100%! & I’m not exaggerating on that. It took about three weeks before I saw results.  So you need to stick with it. I take 1 tablet daily with food. I did find however my skin deteriorated as soon as I stopped taking them - So this is a long term, on going solution to problem skin but an effective one.

Vitamin C: I have seen improvements in my skin since taking this also.

Vitamin A: Helps prevent acne development by reducing the production of sebum. Please take this supplement with extreme caution as overdose can cause illness  even death.

Personal Hygiene

Keep hair tied back: Try keeping your hair off your face as much as possible. As grease from the hair can clog pores and cause spots. I know if you have a break out it’s tempting to use your hair to cover your face but in my experience it causes more harm than good & can prolong a break out.

Sleep with hair tied up for the same reason.

Wash your hair regularly.  Every day if it’s long & grease prone

Remove makeup

Don’t keep your make up on any longer than you need to.

If you’re not going out again after collage / school / work remove your make up as soon as you get home. So it’s not clogging up your pores. Use a make up remover or cleanser to remove it completely.

Shower & wash your face daily.

Exfoliate: To help reduce blackheads I wash my face with an exfoliating scrub daily.

I highly recommend Avon invigorating pore penetrating scrub. I have been using it for 14 years & no other brand can come close. Pat your face dry don’t rub.

Cleanser: This one product I thinks it’s worth spending a little extra on. So many supermarket own brand ones are rubbish in my opinion.

I have tried lots & the two brands I recommend are Clean & Clear & Neutrogena. (I use a liquid cleanser rather than cream as I find them more effective & gentle on the skin.

Toner: This will close pores & remove any excess grease from your skin.

Healthy Eating

A good diet: Obviously it should go without saying that a good diet is essential to reduce breaks & improve skin. I know a lot of people will have already made that change which is why I didn’t put it first. There is nothing worse than looking for advice on how to improve skin only to be told stop eating cheeseburgers & cream cakes when you don’t anyway. It’s assumptive, patronizing & unhelpful. Plus I didn’t want you to stop reading at the first paragraph thinking you had heard all this before & it would be no help.

That being said If you haven’t already; ditch the chocolate bars & the takeaways. I’m sorry if you don’t like fruit & veg . You’re going to have to suck it up & start munching it. Remember it will be worth it in the end. It doesn’t mean you can’t have the odd treat

Dealing with the odd spot

A simple method: We all know there are certain times of the months where spots are inevitable.

Using a cotton bud dab surgical spirit on the spot leave for a while until it has dried up then apply a dab of Savlon or even better Savlon Healing Gel. In my experience It will start to look better within hours & heal completely within days. This Works better than any store bought spot remedy I have tried.

Try to wear as little make up as possible during the outbreak.

Bio oil: is very good & highly recommended by almost every one.

Toner: Again this will help remove excess pore clogging grease & tighten pores.

Other Causes

If you’re continuing to have severe break outs and none of the above have helped. It could be that a product you are using is irritating your skin. (For example Perfume, make- up, washing powder & air freshner). I have had break outs because of both perfume & washing detergent. So it is worth taking that possibility in to consideration. If you think that may be the case I would recommend visiting a doctor or dermatologist for further tests.

If you follow these tips not only should they help to clear your skin up they should also prevent breaks outs happening in the first place.

I hope this has been helpful to you & maybe suggested something you haven’t thought of before. Please remember different methods work for different people. Although I haven’t had any bad reactions from anything discussed, you try these methods at your own risk.

Out of all these things I highly recommend the Zinc supplement

Clean Brushes

Although your New Year’s party probably seems a hundred years ago, I’m sure you remember planning out your look! Whether it was a dazzling eyeshadow creation, a lovely lip colour or just your natural look, I have just one question: did you remember to sanitise/clean your make up brushes?

It’s a really fab idea to keep your brushes free of any dirt or bacteria that can build up to prevent the chances of unnecessary future blemish break-outs! Not only does a clean brush look tons better, but it feels softer too – and it can help your make up to apply more evenly! Top tip: don’t forget to keep a pack of Simple® Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes on your bedside table for those last minute make up removal sessions before bed!

Wishing you a very happy and prosperous new year,

Tabby xo

Make sure you get your Zs for healthy looking skin.

Get zzz’ not zitz

Hitting the sheets and getting the Zzzzzs are important for skin health, so your skin can repair and regenerate (it’s not called beauty sleep for nothing!). But did you know that a clean pillowcase can make all the difference too? In the hot weather, we tend to sweat more, and this can lead to oiler skin and breakouts – so it’s a good idea to change your pillowcase every few days to make sure it’s free of impurities and dead skin cells that we naturally shed overnight. Before you go to bed, use a gentle cleanser like Simple® Kind To Skin Refreshing Facial Wash Gel, and you’ll have thoroughly cleansed, fresh feeling skin till morning.

If you’re in a hurry to get to bed try Simple® Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes. They are cleansing yet moisturising, so there’s no tight, dry feeling afterwards. Perfect for speedily wiping off make up and leaving your face fresh and hydrated after a sunny day or long summer night.
