Royapettah Clock Tower | Madras Series

Watercolours and Ink on Moleskine Large Sketchbook

Currently, Madras has four standalone clocks. (Doveton, Georgetown and Pulianthope and Royapettah) The Royapettah clock tower was built in the 1920’s in the classic art deco style and is one of the area’s eminent landmarks.

All these towers are of art deco style and are characterized by a  linear model, thin lines, high use of cement concrete, rich usage of colours and fewer floral engravings. The architectural style of the clock tower was influenced by the Industrial and the French revolutions, as were the other clock towers and cinema theatres built in the city in the 1900s.
