classic appeal

From what I’ve seen, almost everyone prefers junkrat to roadhog even though roadhog is the classically more appealing “strong guy with soft tastes” that normally tumblr would fawn over. And tbh I know in my heart that if roadhog was not fat but just muscular everyone would love him so much more. And it makes me really sad that even when a video game included a well rounded (no pun intended) chubby person, everyone ignores them in favor of his skinny counterpart. And even when you do see roadhog in art he is usually just a prop for junkrat or another junkrat joke. So yeah. Just not super happy with how it’s playing out.

Oh almighty channel changer
And entertainment arranger,
I love that you’re easy to use
But alas, easier to lose.
Consistently you assist me

And when we first met in that aisle

What's the most difficult book you've ever read ¿

difficult to understand or difficult to take? difficult to understand was probably kant’s groundwork because he’s a terrible writer and the lecturer who discussed it with us wasn’t very clear. i came out of it more confused about kant than i’d ever been before.

difficult to take is probably marcus aurelius’ meditations which is written just beautifully and i would recommend highly to absolutely anyone as a great example of the enduring appeal of classical philosophy. just lovely. but the problem with it is that the lessons are very difficult to live by.

this was a really good question, thanks so much :) let me know if there’s anything else i can help u with my guy

Strange Magic Fanfic - "A Beastly Beauty and a Beautiful Beast"

Once upon a time, there is a Beauty, and there is a Beast.

Can one not be both?

Originally written for Strange Magic Week Day 1: Fairy Tales. Unsurprisingly, I knew exactly which Fairy Tale AU I wanted to tackle…

I’ve wanted to do a Strange Magic Beauty and the Beast AU for some time now, seeing as its my favorite fairy tale. But I was hesitant to actually write it, uncertain in how to handle it. For me, Strange Magic is one of the best subversions of the classic Beauty and Beast tale because Bog is a Beast and he does not physically change. His monstrousness and beastliness is not a curse inflicted upon him, it’s his natural state. If there’s any curse in Strange Magic, it’s the fact that Bog is so willing to believe he is too hideous to be loved, to resign himself to misery and heartache.

To do an AU where Bog is transformed into something more classically appealing? It would be to tear down one of the things I most adore about this movie, its bravery and commitment in showing that there is nothing wrong in being a Beast, and that everyone deserves to be loved. I couldn’t do that.

But then I came up with a twist that I feel stays true to both the spirit of Beauty and the Beast and Strange Magic, and I am so eager to share it with you…!

You will notice that I combined elements from both the original Beauty and the Beast tale and with the Disney version - I love both of them and wanted to see if I could make something that honors both of them whilst still being fresh and new.

I sincerely hope you enjoy this story - it took over my life the best of way, and I am eager to see what you think!

Once upon a time, there is a Beauty, and there is a Beast.

This is the tale we know.

A curse was cast.

A flower – a rose, perhaps a primrose, fresh with dew and jealously guarded – is plucked.

A sacrifice is sworn, a vow made.

A girl walks into darkness, head held high and burning bright.

Once upon a time, there is a Beauty, and there is a Beast.

Can one not be both?

Her sister’s fingers, sweetly tracing the petals, softly touching the stems and giving gentle little tugs until the blossom is pulled free from the iron of the earth, the darkness of the damp soil.

Asparagus & Eggs

This dish is exactly what it looks like, takes no time at all to make, and has all the lovely appeal of classic French cuisine. It’s a perfect side dish or can be made into a small meal in itself, especially if you add some prosciutto and fresh bread. I typically make this in April at the peak of asparagus season and/or as an appetizer for a romantic home meal, because asparagus is an aphrodisiac.

When buying asparagus, look for straight, firm, bright green spears and cook them as soon as possible. The best way to store them is either upright in a jar with the stems submerged in an inch of water, or with a damp paper towel around the ends in a large plastic or ziploc bag. Something else to note about asparagus, is that it comes in three different colors: green, white and purple, which have slightly different nutrient properties but are cooked the same way.

Serves: 2
Ingredients: 2 large handfuls of asparagus, 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp butter, 2 eggs, 1 lemon wedge, coarse salt and pepper

  1. Clean the asparagus and cut off the bottom 1-2 inches of the stem, which can be hard and chewy when cooked.
  2. Heat a large skillet with 2 tbsp olive oil over medium-high heat and add the asparagus. Season with salt and pepper and cook for 5-8 minutes, or until the asparagus is tender but crisp. Be sure to toss every minute so all the sides are cooked evenly. Turn off the heat, squeeze a lemon wedge over the asparagus and cover to keep warm while you fry the eggs.
  3. Coat a frying pan with 1 tsp butter and place over high heat. Gently crack the eggs so the yolks are not broken and they are spaced out so the eggs don’t touch. Once the whites have set, lower the heat as low as it will go and cover. Cook yolk to desired runniness.
  4. To plate, place spears evenly and facing the same direction, add the egg on top and season with salt and pepper.

Fancy - Available in a wide array of patterns, this variant is a frequently-bred contest favorite.  Its silky fur and large tail are beloved features among their trainers and breeders, and although rare, there is even a version that has naturally metallic golden fur, and yet does not display the shiny gene.

Dormouse - A roly-poly little thing, Dormouse Raichus have shockingly slow metabolisms, comparatively speaking.  This allows them to put on massive amounts of weight for the winter, during which they turn into pudgy furballs with a static charge.  They are very popular among children…although less so among parents who have to deal with their children’s dandelion-fluff hair after the sleeping Raichu is used as a pillow.

Youth - For years, breeders have attempted to cultivate a Pikachu’s color in a Raichu; it allows for the stat boosts of evolution, but the classic appeal of a truly iconic basic Pokemon.  The Youth variant is the result of these years of careful, selective breeding.  Though the color profile isn’t perfect, the large, shiny eyes and the orange-red cheeks are a well-accepted facsimile.

Sewer Rat - Roughened ubran Pikachus frequently evolve into these grimy-colored, attack-heavy Raichus.  Largely quadrupedal, colonies of these Pokemon can often be seen fighting over food, chewing through brick and stone in order to make themselves nests, and generally making pests of themselves.  Despite this, some trainers love them, and will go out of their way to find and capture one.

@thecloudheaded  said: I actually conisdered a notp the Homusaya ship. Especially now, because I saw some people shipping it and it’s unsettling. Like theyhate each others guts, and Homura keeps messing up with Sayaka.

I don’t ship them either in the actual canon, that’s why I said I BROTP them in AUs where they don’t hate each other guts. Considering the PSP game sceneries, is actually possible for Homura and Sayaka to get well along, Homura just needs to open more to the other girls, and Sayaka not being so judgamental, with that basis and the proper development, a build- up friendship between them can work in an AU where Homura didn’t messed up like Rebellion.

About people shipping HomuSaya….I see it as the classic appeal of the Hero/Villain ship as well the Hate ship. Neither are my cup of tea, but I can see why some people like that stuff.

The whole Kyo///saya is just for fans to get their dose of enemies to lovers romance cliche that turns them on. But this one is just creepy.

For me, my problem with Kyo////Saya is the lack of development between them. I don’t mind ships where they start enemies and then become friends and then lovers with the proper development, that’s how 99% of shounen manga friendships work (the hero and the rival always become friends), the problem with Kyo///Saya is that they had *just* reached the phase of “ok, ok, I consider you a friend even if you also push my bottoms” and the merch and Rebellion pretends to jump from that phase to “let’s kiss and hold hands” without a plausible development, specially since Sayaka always has been in love Kyosuke and thus needs time to move on and having a time alone before falling in love again. The couple is 20% development (and most of them from Kyoko’s part, not so much from Sayaka) and 80% fanservice, yet fandom loves to proclaim them canon and “so intense” when there’s not so much substance in their relationship to be a romantic couple in my opinion. That’s why the ship bothers me so much.
