Vanilla Twilight Chapter 1: Town, Flow of Time, People
This story is sorta based off of Clannad and Clannad After
Story. Each chapter will be named after a song from Clannad or a song
that I think fits with the story at that point. The
first chapter will be in 1st person then the rest will be in 3rd
person. It’s named after the Owl City song and I thought that the lyrics
would fit with what I have planned for this story.
Summary: Natsu is an orphan at Fairy Tail orphanage, He meets Lucy and together they try to uncover the secrets of his parents disappearance.
My name’s Natsu Dragneel and I hate
this town. It’s too filled with memories that I’d rather forget. All I
saw when I walked through town to get to school everyday, were bleak
greys, blacks and whites. Like the town had no life, no light and no
happiness to show.
When I was five years old, my parents
disappeared along with my older brother, Zeref and they have never been
back to my hometown, Magnolia. Ever since then, I have been alone but
searching endlessly for them to come back to me and be a happy family.
Twelve years have passed and I still haven’t found them. Was it their
intention to leave me behind? If that’s the case, they sure did a great
job of it.
I go to school at Magnolia High and because of my
situation, I now live at the orphanage, Fairy Tail. Makarov Dreyar -or
as he likes to be called Master Makarov- found me shortly after my
family vanished. He took me in and for that I’m grateful but I can’t
ever forgive the pain that my family put me through by pulling a stunt
like that. My dad used to take me and my brother out whilst mother was
at work and we had the most fun times.
Nowadays, I sit in my dorm
room, mostly by myself but every so often, my school frenemy, Gray
Fullbuster would visit. His dorm was right next door to mine and he’s so
irritating! He always makes fun of my hair! Yes, its pink but it’s
one-hundred percent natural! It’s not my fault! Even if he is a pain in
the butt, he’s the only friend I had when I was going through a
difficult time. His mother and father had died in the winter season 12
years ago and I began to believe that the whole town was plotting
something against me just to make me suffer. The dates were way to
similar to not go unnoticed.
But then I met Erza Scarlet. She and Gray were the only two that I talked to who were around the same age as me.
I hated this town. Until one day, something changed…
day, I had another nightmare about my parents and I couldn’t go back to
sleep so I ended up getting ready for school early. I put on my white
shirt and trousers. The school uniform had a tie but I can’t tie them.
Besides, I wear my dad’s scarf instead as a memoir. Each day, I would
pass the cherry blossoms and walk along a long, uphill path to school.
But today? Today was a little different.
As I paced along my usual
route, The cherry blossoms were swaying in the wind and the petals
floated down. One of the soft pink petals landed on the head of a girl
who stood underneath the cherry blossoms. She had her back to me and her
head seemed to be facing upwards as if she was looking at the sky.
I wondered why she was just standing there andthen she started to speak.
love this town. Everyone I love lives here and I really like school.
Nothing goes unchanged but I wonder: will I still love this place even
when its a place that I can no longer recognise? Even when all the fun
and happy things are gone?”
“You just need to find more.” I said to her.
slowly began to notice her appearance. Blonde hair. It looked soft. She
was shorter than me. I was spacing out myself when she suddenly turned
around, catching me offguard.
Then, I noticed her eyes. Brown. A
dark chocolate brown… Blonde hair and brown eyes. She looks like
someone I used to know but I can’t remember who. Argh! My head hurts!
“Can I help you with something?” She asked politely.
really. I was just wondering why you were standing here talking to
yourself when you should be getting to school. Oh! By the way…” I
replied. I gently picked a petal out of her hair.
“This was in your hair.”
grinned at her and she looked back at me blankly. What the hell? I
tilted my head to the side in confusion but then I grabbed her right
hand and started to run up the hill.
“Come on! We’re going to be late!”
When I looked back at her, her eyes were wide but she then smiled at me and beamed. “Okay!”
That’s where we began. On that long uphill path, on the way to school…
Where the hell have you been?” Gray screams at me but I ignore him…
for now. We’re in the classroom so I’ll beat him up later.
“Natsu! Where-mmph!” I stood up quickly and put my hand over Gray’s mouth to make him shut up.
“Calm down, Brain Freeze I was just thinking about something. I’ll fight you later! I’m not really in the mood right now.”
“Oh My-! I never thought I’d be alive to hear Natsu Dragneel say that he’s not in the mood for a fight!”
“THAT’S ENOUGH!” I shuddered in fear as I immediately recognised the voice behind me and freezer pants.
course, this was Erza Scarlet, who I mentioned earlier. She’s really
bossy and she’s really and I mean, really violent. Whenever me and Gray
fight, she smashes ours heads together and it usually shuts us up but
not for long! She can’t come between ice and fire!
Get in your seats!” Our teacher, Gildarts Clive walked in and shouted
at us. Gray sulked and slumped back to his seat. I… sulked too. I will
get Gray and Erza back though!
Class began but my mind drifted
off to that strange blonde girl that I met this morning. What was her
name? I should’ve asked when I was with her. I’m so stupid! She looked
older but she was wearing the same uniform as the other girls in my
class. Maybe I’ll ask the others about her at lunch if I can find her
that is. But for now, I’ll listen to Gildarts drone on about his
daughter for two hours…
class was over and Gildarts had finally stopped gushing over how great
his daughter Cana was, I set out to find my friends in the other classes
who usually sit outside underneath a single cherry blossom tree planted
in the middle of the school grounds. Since I brought my own lunch, I
didn’t need to meet Gray and Erza to buy food. I made my way towards the
tree but I found someone sitting there. From a distance, it was
difficult to tell who it was. I walked closer.
It was blondie from earlier!
As I approached her, she began to get up and gather her things.
“Hey blondie there’s no need to do that.”
“Sorry, this is where you have lunch I didn’t know. AND DON’T CALL ME BLONDIE!”
“Okay okay! Sorry! What should I call you then? I never got a name.”
