Hearing about your passing immediately made me teary eyed. I can’t believe your gone and no longer on this planet. You spoke not only word but nutrition for every last one of us. There was always something that you could relate to. I first heard about you from the movie Poetic Justice when I was a little kid and fell on love with your poetry. As a child I could feel the power of your words marinating through my skin. You truly are a great woman who will be remembered centuries from now…
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?

Don’t you take it awful hard

‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines

Diggin’ in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,

You may cut me with your eyes,

You may kill me with your hatefulness,

But still, like air, I’ll rise.“ — from 1978’s "Still I Rise”
